Flooding and mud slides. Clean up began early and is lasting through the night. Here is a look at the nights totals starting with today. Napa got more than 2inches of rain. A Flash Flood Watch was extended but expired just about an hour ago. We have live coverage. Debora villalon and patti lee are out in the elements where problems still persist tonight. And we have the latest from mark tamayo who has how long the rain will persist. It has been quite a sequence starting last thursday. Take a look at the numbers some parts of the bay area picking up significant numbers, look at kentfield over 10 inches. Napa over 7inches. Santa rosa 6. 36. And San Francisco over three. By comparison parts of the south bay and east bay not taking up nearly such. All the energy focused to the north. San jose only picking up 8. 4 and hayward 6. 8. As far as last Storm Tracker 2 radar. The bulk of the energy is moving to the east and to the south of the bay area. Still lingering clouds and moisture in place. Still producing some scattered showers. You can see peppered on these maps toward the san helena and napa. Parts of the east bay closer to hayward. Nothing too extreme but still enough to wet the bay area roadways as well. The bulk of the activity hasn t moved out to the south of the region. Coming up at 10 30, well take another look at our Storm Tracker 2 radar tracking potential showers. But the 2 00 a. M. Clock still has sandbags drinking in the moisture as rain keeps coming down. Reporter no, we want the rain. Its just not the flooding. Reporter open for business but at this drink hole, so do flood waters right outside the door. 90 years of bar, 90 years of flooding whenever rain and time and a near by creek with storm drains go over their limits. It comes into the bar, to the bathroom and the grates and everything. Reporter the owners expect it and owners place sandbags and it comes in any way. Reporter the canyon sends water pouring down. Its not in the house. Its up to the house. Reporter a 50foot landslide collapsing from the road above into the backyard of this home and crashing into a newly built studio. The hill never took that much water before. And the first time it did, it all gave way. Reporter fire crews shored up the slide to keep it from moving even more. This event probably not just mother nature. They redid the road about a year and a half ago and it hasn t rained since really. Substantially, so nobody realized they changed the pitch. Redirecting the flow of water over this edge. Something to sort out with the county. But nobody was hurt and we have homeowners insurance. So thats my montra. I have five pumps around my house. Reporter neighbors are well aware how saturated slopes can give way. Its a little scary and more water in our reservoirs. Theres a lot more good than bad. Reporter and thats the attitude at the 2 00 a. M. Club as well. Tomorrows high tide may make this watering hole watery once more but until then. We were closed till about 5 00 today. Now were open till however long we can stay open till. Till 2 00 a. M. Hopefully. And sadly the storm may have contributed to a fatal car crash here in mill valley this morning. A jeep went off this road. Greenway, a man was found dead inside the vehicle by search and rescue teams in the ravine. We have no identity released yet on that body. From debra. We turn to patty lee. Shes live in oakland where another mud slide is keeping residents up throughout the night. Reporter this is another mud slide. This mud slide was cleared away in the past hour. One of the issues with this area is without the light from our light truck, this road would be pitch black. So a driver would not be able to see the hazards until they were right on top of it. This city crew was clearing mud past grizzly peak. Carlos navarro is in charge of directing traffic and hes been at it since noon. Cold, wet, dark. So yeah hopefully they sent more people out here. Reporter mud slides became a persistent problem when the rain came in from San Francisco. Starting as a drizzle. It wasnt raining that hard. Reporter that quickly turned into torrential downpours. The effect flooding in parts of Contra Costa County and yet another day of accidents and power outages. This incident caught by our cameras in brentwood. Theres a bunch of us out here right now. Reporter crews are combing the roadways for hazards. Especially at roadsides which have a way of collapsing. The first rain drenches the hillside which causes the hillside to collapse. Were going to have a lot of these all week. Okay, i got to go. Reporter that crew is still out on the roads. When we caught up with them they were on their sixth mud slide clearing in as many hours. Were told that the east bay is not the only problem. That as long as these rains continue. And now that this ground is saturated. Communities around the entire bay area built around hillsides could have the same problem. Reporting live in oakland, patti lee, ktvu news. All the rain this weekend has turned shallow bay area rivers into raging ones. Our crew was along the drought. Less than two weeks ago, this is what the Russian River looked like remember these pictures. The level was so low you could actually walk across it without getting your shoes wet. At the time the river was at its lowest level for january in more than 50 years. And a viewer just sent us video of the swollen creek in Sonoma County filled with swiftly moving debris. It was taken near shelville. Remi wrote it looked like a giant log jam had just broken lose. And travelers at San Francisco airport were slow going. Managers called for a Ground Delay Program that reduced the simultaneous landings of two planes on side by side runways to just one landing at a time. At last check sfo officials tell us that 120 flights have been cancelled. They say there are delays of 60 minutes to two hours on other flights. One passenger was upset about missing his flight. Extremely frustrating. They gave a call but it wasnt a human being that call me. I couldnt talk to them. I could not reach them and when i did reach them they gave me exactly the wrong information. All right, one of our photographers jeda bunger caught this video. Pg e reported an outage that affected 2,700 customers. We just received an update from pge that shows just five San Francisco customers without power. In fact, east bay theres 441 customers without power. Theres about 275 affected in the north bay. And scattered outages in other parts of the bay area. Throughout this storm our viewers have been sending us pictures of just how all of this rain is impacting our local water ways. I want to show you one of our pictures from oroville. It is flowing you can see right here. A viewer send us a picture of this spill way joking theres no launching of boats there now. Hayward police are investigating a Home Invasion robbery and what appears to be the shooting of two intruders. This is video from the crime scene in groveway. We just got word that officers were called to that location at about 5 30 this evening and were told that one of the robbers had been found inside. Police found him diseased. And another suspect has fled. They believe a female who was transported to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds may have also been involved. In san jose a driver has been arrested for dui and manslaughter following a deadly accident. Police say three people were inside a vehicle when it crashed on branham lane on snow avenue. Thats the vehicle in question there on the tow truck. All of the occupants inside were injured and taken to the hospital where one person was declared dead. Police havent yet released the identities of those involved. Also in San Jose Police say an officer shot and wounded an armed man suspected of stealing a car. A spoking woman said officers responding to a 911 call on holly drive near gridly street around 3 00 this morning. Found a man with a shotgun outside a home demanding a man inside give him the keys to a vehicle. Police confronted the man and hit the man once. Police described the mans wounds as serious but not life threatening. Oakland police are describing the homicide of a 69 yearold woman discovered dead this weekend in her east oakland home. Police say she was killed about 10 50 saturday morning in a home on 103rd avenue near plymouth street. Authorities have not yet released the victims name or the cause of her death. The new 6. 4 billion bay bridge has a new potentially dangerous and costly problem. Our recent Rainy Weather has exposed leaks in the span. Allie rasmuss asked officials about this latest problem and how they plan to address it. Reporter it was tough to see throughout the rain. But over the weekend a problem underneath the road became very visible to caltrans engineers. We have found some leaks, were still determining how many. Reporter this friday engineers are working to pinpoint the problems of the bridge. They appear to be along the rail. The concern is the water is getting into the rail and then dripping down some of the bolts. That connect the barrier rail to the bolt deck. Its been having problems all along. Its not new. Theyve had it since day one. What can you expect. Reporter caltrans officials came under fire earlier this year for problems with bolts in the new east bay. Drivers are wondering what else may be wrong. Everything is going to have issues at first. But its hard to measure. Corrosion within the steel structure shouldnt be a problem as long as engineers fix the leak properly. Since the bridge has a protective coating inside. This is not meant to be water tight. You weatherize it the best you can. Reporter frequent drivers agree. Everything has to be a test run and we havent had rain in so long so im not really worried about it. Reporter a team of engineers will take a closer look at the leak this afternoon. They plan on writing another update on the situation on friday. Allie rasmus. More details now on the spans many problems. Those bad bolts were discovered and since repaired. A few weeks ago several engineers had issues with concrete. Steel decks and the tower. They said they were pressured to finish the bridge on time. Caltrans insists the bridge is safe for operation. Tomorrow the federal government will begin extending several marriage rights to same sex couples regardless of which state they call home. Attorney general eric holders announcement this weekend is causing a stir on capitol hill. There appears to be another example of the Obama Administration imposing its will on the state. Reporter 33 states have laws that define marriage as between a man and woman. The Research Council says the federal government should not be trying to force these states to change their definition of marriage. But the Senate Majority disagrees that is what is happening. As weve mentioned the rain is sort of moving out now. Mark is joining us now. We were looking at one of our cameras we can see some rain drops still falling at this hour. Theres still a lot of moisture in place. The main storm is moving out but still enough moisture to produce some light showers out there. This is one of our cameras showing you wet roadways out there looking out toward oakland. Its dark right now but we do have some wet pavement out there. Be extra careful for tonight into early tomorrow morning. Right now on live Storm Tracker 2. You cant see the coverage out there really decreasing. Even if youre not covered with the green, you still have the drizzle out there. As we come in closer to oakland and right around the richmond area and out toward fairfield and solano county. More activity to show you. Parts of the east bay peppered with the showers. San jose reporting mostly cloudy skies. All the action basically drifting to the south of the bay area. Today the Russian River looked a lot better than in weeks past. The water was throwing at 9,000 cubic feet per second. Thats compared to just 40 cuber feet per second on friday. The people that live along the river are rejoicing along with water officials but they say the drought crisis is not over yet. This is what we hope is the beginning of a phenomenal february. Unfortunately, the drought is still on. He says current water levels are still 6inches lower than they were during the big drought that happened back in 1977. State officials banned Recreational Fishing last week because of those low water levels. You can also get the latest on the conditions outside. New at 10 00, state and local Health Officials are trying to stop a disturbing trend that they say threatens the health of millions of californians children. New numbers show even more children are not getting all of their vaccinations. 2. 79 of California School children did not get all of their shots last year and thats up from the year before. In marin county its far worse with almost 8 of kids not getting vaccinated. That is the highest in the bay area. And one school in particular is off the charts. The marin county immunization coordinator gave us the outstanding statistics. The new Village School in sausalito, 74 exemption rate. Reporter why would a parent not protect their children . Vaccinations have certain chemicals in them and preservatives like mercury in some cases that are not good for children especially when theyre very tiny little infants. No one from new Village School would talk to us on camera but some parents say they understand the feelingings of others who wont get their children vaccinated feelings of others. My children have been vaccinated. But none of us have ever gotten a flu vaccine. And were all okay. Reporter the thought that children could get autism does not wash well with parents. Theres no difference between those two get vaccines and those who dont so its very frustrating to see that still prevailing out there. Reporter more and more parents not opting to have their child vaccinated by filing a pbe or personal belief exemption. That rate has doubled in california over the last 10 years. Rebecca gamen is the school nurse for 4,800 students on 7marin county campuses. She says some doctors are not doing enough to educate parents of the risks of getting the vaccine and signs off on the application. The parent goes there and tells them that they just dont want the vaccine. The provider talks to them and talks to them and if they opt out the provider is not involved. Reporter but not all marin parents are part of this anti vaccination movement. Over all i have faith in the medical profession. Theres a lot of talk about it become linked to autism. Its definitely a little ridiculous. A lot of people are still concerned about autism, because thats been debunked. And forkel says that she is worried about a break out. The extended forecast just high clouds paying us a visit. As far as the sierra, most of the activity today has been in the form of some rain. Up above 7,000 feet some snowfall and that winter storm warning has been converted to a snow advisory. In fact, the Winter Weather advisory until four 4 00 tomorrow morning. Snowfall could be four to 8 inches so that advisory in place until 4 00 tomorrow morning. Over the past few days weve been talking of subtropical flow connected to hawaii. Finally this is moving to the south. A few showers out there. Monday theres a chance of showers. And then a suncloud mix into tomorrow. All the cloud cover out there. The possibility of a pop up shower at 7 00 and 8 00. Skies becoming partly cloudy into the afternoon hours by 3 00 and 4 00. You can see that with the forecast tomorrow. Morning at 7 00, by 12 00 the sun cloud mix. Afternoon highs on track to reach the upper 50s to lower 60s. Five day forecast with your weekend always in view. Well have hopes of more rainfall over the weekend. Right now more chance of all that activity headed up north. Forecast models try to bring in more rain drops about a week from now.
