Both officers received fatal injuries instantaneously as a result of the collision. Investigators said that both officers were wearing seat belts. Shes been learning more about the two officers who got their start here in the bay area. Christina. Well, this is where officer Juan Gonzales got his start in the san jose area office. Officer bryan law started in the east bay, and its officers across the bay area and state that are mourning the loss of these two men. California Highway Patrol officers Juan Gonzales and bryan law bonded as classmates tat chp academy in 2008. They started their careers in the bay area and spent their final moments together on the job in fresno. Their deaths are sending shock waefs through the chp family. A lot going on in fresno this week. Officer ross lee worked the graveyard shift with gonzales in the south bay before gonzales transferred to the fresno area in 2010. I just immediately went back to, you know, seen him Walking Around in the hal waist. He was a great guy. Lee says gonzales was a Field Training officer who never got rattled or lost his cool. He was calm, soft spoken, seemed to have a an air of confidence about him. He knew what he was doing, and it showed. Gonzaless partner bryan law was looked up to by cleegs in oakland. Thats where he got his start as an officer before transferring to fresno to be closer to family. He was a general standup guy. When i first came to oakland, he welcomed me here as, you know, a brand new officer. I had no clue what i was doing, and he was there to help me out and guide me through my new path. He helped build me to become the officer that i am here today, too. Law leaves behind a wife and three children. Hes very much still a part of our oakland community. Liefk i said, a lot of his classmates still work in oakland. Were all friends. We all know each other. We workday in and day out 12 hour shifts. Chp officers say theyll never forget about law or gonzales. They placed black bands across their badges showing a sign of mourning. Now yun that person is gone, its deep sadness and loss and really just sadness on for his family, as well. Those who knew the officers in the fresno area say the two men were very close. Neighbors say they often heard arguments. Used to be a deck over there. One time around 1shg in 1 00 in the morning, she was just tearing that thing apart. I mean, it was really bizarre. South wick is being held in Contra Costa County jail. San jose police are urging witnesses to come forward with information about a fight at a flea market that ended with a killing of one man. Today homicide detectives investigated the scene at snow avenue and capital expressway. Last night the victim was stab and had hit by a car not far from the capital flea market. Two other men who needed medical treatment at a nearby hospital were involved in that fight. Police have not released description of the suspected driver or veevenlth police in fairfield and the victims family are pleading for witnesss to come forward in the shooting death of a teenage girl. 16yearold naomi rojas was found dead Early Saturday Morning along Railroad Tracks behind phoenix drive. Investigators now say it looks like nearly three hours passed between the initial report of shottings fired and the discovery of her body. Police say they believe rojas was with friends when she was shot but no one is talking yet. Rojass father says his youngest daughter was a straight a student who started hanging out with the wrong crowd. San Francisco Police continue to search for a gunman who shot a 19yearold man outside the westfield mall. The shooting happened last night when the mall was full of shoppers. The gunman ran away. Hes described as being African American in late teens to early twenties and wearing a white tshirt. Police say he targeted the victim who was recovering from multiple injuries. It fook firefighters about a half hour to control a fire at an apartment this morning. At 135 carolina street. There niece word yet as to what caused the fire. Fire damage large garage behind a home in Castro Valley happened shortly before 4 00 this afternoon. Firefighters say the fire is not the first for that neighborhood. There has been fires in this area. At this time, this fire is under investigation. We have a fire investigator on the scene. Firefighters say the fire was contained to the garage and that no one was hurt. East Bay Regional Park Police say they have tentatively identified oo woman whose body was found burning in oakland park, but its up to the coroner to make the final and formal id. Police found the badly burned body at the gate to redwood Regional Park last saturday night. Investigators say they think its a white woman in her late 40s from the bay area. Speaking with the family, they have not seen or heard from that so its its kind of matching up. The coroner plans to do autopsy this week. Police are investigating this case as a possible inside. Police say they respond today reports of an intoxicated man making threats to his wife about 2 45 this afternoon. Authorities in Contra Costa County issued a safety alert this afternoon when a turbine released smoke into the air. The turbine is philips refinery. Smoke could be seen from intertate 80 and soot may have spread in the area. The alert came out shortly after 1 00 and lasted about ten minutes. Tonight the incident is under investigation. As ktvus robert honda tells us, the Water District has banked a large supply of water that it cant seem to withdraw the santa clara Water District stopped releasing water into creeks that affects wildlife and nature lovers, but what really scares is if the drought cuts back the Drinking Water supply. Its our everyday life. You know, thats how we survive. While the district says it has ground water reserves options to supplement the supply are drying up. Local reservoirs, the Water District acknowledges it has 263,000 acre banked in kern county near bakers field but this year the district cant get the water it owns. It turns out its too costly to bring the water directly to the california aqua duct. One official says itd be like pumping it uphill so the District Needs to find an agency closer to Exchange Water with but the drought and state cutbacks have made that almost impossible. Obviously when the Water Project is at zero allocation, theres less water in the project for exchanges sdmrchlt the district says the banked watter is needed for the areas Water Treatment plants to keep from draining the ground water reserves. Were working with all of the retailers to make sure if there are any reductions in treated water that you can still meet the Drinking Water needs of santa clara county. It s strange and scary at the same time. Another major problem, when the state cuts allocations, it also severely limits how much bankable water can be withdrawn. Many across our state are hoping for rain, but not People Living in a Hillside Community in san pablo. Three years ago a landslide there threatened several homes. Three of the homes remain vacant. Nearby resident says the city still hasnt fixed faulty drainage pipes that contributed to the landslide. Six residents sued the city over the slide.
