Thank you look. What. I am. 100. To one marble blanket that let me when I was. That. And. When. You walk like it Was to kind of Batman with the song magma before that who were we listening to. I don't even know I'm busy over here. And the sun liners would put me in jail and we had the California honey drops of the song higher degree it's now 7 minutes after 5 o'clock you're listening to one for 3 and want to force have an. Arcade and streaming online. Translator k 2880 Ferndale I am it and I am broadcasting live for one more hour here at the north coast co-op listen so we are not doing the little game today in fact I mean are calling it the reverse a little game because instead of us giving you something we want you to give us something but I still want to go ahead and think the sponsors of the little game because they make it possible every other day besides this week so the little game is sponsored by the walk by last Frenchman pizza. Heart of Humboldt arcade is historic Creamery district. Oh my God I got a mouthful today let's start over Frenchmen pizza numbers heart of Humboldt arcade is historic Creamery district Brooklyn Marvin Remax Realty and satori wellness so we want to thank them for making that possible and again instead of us giving you something we would prefer that you would come here and make a donation to feed food for People dot org I also just put on the Facebook page a donate button so if you go to. Facebook page I made a post about where we're going to be today and there's a donate button that goes directly to food for people and you can donate that way so we're trying to raise a $1000.00 today we're getting close we're not there yet we just need I think another $12.00 until we are there and I thought this might be a good time to take a little time we were talking about cooking classes and I was wondering if you want to put me on the spot here and want to talk about those cooking classes because Amy was sure excited about. Doing cooking classes for years and they're so much fun because we find that there are a lot of folks I mean I grew up in an extended family and my grandmothers are a wonderful cook sign learned how to cook from them my mother was not a wonderful cook so I'm happy I had that resource but you know that is not the experience that a lot of people have had over their lives and we also see some older men who are widowers who need to learn how to cook for themselves so we've been doing monthly mostly monthly cooking classes and just taking some of the food that we're giving out through our choice pantry or our pantry network and focusing a meal on that and Harris who used to teach the culinary arts program at c.r. Actually has been volunteering to lead those cooking classes for the last several years which are great and I know last week there was a canning class preserving class as well oh wow so you know just giving people. New ideas for the basics around cooking how to use some different ingredients how to stretch your budget by adding a few spices here and there you know those sorts of things canning classes have been really popular though because there are those times of year where there's tons of apples so you like to make apple sauce or apple butter or something or canned some tomatoes so you can make some sauces through the winter months Yeah well in the mason jars are really popular right now everybody wanted anything in a mason jar and to get a mason jar people are losing so when are these classes going on they're kind of schedule based on availability so if you keep an eye out on our website we always have something posted in our front desk too it's looking for locations to hold them we have a small kitchen at the food bank that we can use but capacity is somewhat limited We've also partnered with the Jefferson Community Center because they have a little bit bigger space there so we can hold some classes and invite more people in for those we've partnered with public health in the past we used to do them right here actually in the. Co-ops demonstration kitchen but they've had their own growth. Constraints here so they have had to use that for their own deli prep so that's not available at this point and are these classes free yes absolutely totally free so all you need to do is sign up just sign up and you get a chance to change tastes the recipe that's been prepared and. You're ready to go home and do it yourself yeah and again saying it's a great way to stretch your budget out a little bit cooking at home can be a little frightening for some people but you kind of got to do it at some point in your life and yeah I know the biggest challenge for me was you know I enjoy cooking but when all the kids left home. I live alone and I still make enough for 8 people . And I do like to stretch it out and eat it during the week but not that much. Yes I know that move I do the same thing I make way too much food for myself and then I don't want to throw it away so me and my dog split it in even she's sick of it by like. So just learning how to make things well maybe. You know it's things those little tricks that are you know I learned from my grandmother so you roast a chicken and then you save all the bones and you make a really nice bra. And put a soup together and it's really inexpensive It takes a little time and but it's worth it well and it's winter now so it gets dark at 5 o'clock yes so you have time to work outside in your garden. It's much harder to cook in the summer but in the winter it's nice to buckle up buckle down buckle down and maybe make a soup a stew or something like that so be checking food for People dot org yes for information about that so again we're going to be here for about another 15 minutes or so no little game today because we want you to come donate to us and sort of us donating to you so come on down and donate at the north coast co-op we're like $20.00 away from reaching our goal c'mon we've got to reach this goal you can also do it online at food for People dot org Let's take a little break. That's radio without the rules what we were talking about wanting to exceed our goal and we did just now we just got a very nice donation from man. He brought in a check that was very nice and we have very much exceeded our goal and now we have to make a new goal I know I mean here we are just like 45 minutes before the end of the broadcast today and we are now at $1488.00 pounds slash dollars yes 16 Amy says 16. We can do what we think we can and in 45 minutes. It's for a good cause it is for a good cause Yes it is exactly so instead of us giving you something you can give something back to your community so we're at $1488.00 which means we need $112.00 to make our such pounds. To make our goal right now of $1600.00. That's just amazing again thanks to that person and everyone who's donated today fine and selves and I love. When he handed over to Mitt which was her 1st big moment here. On Air Fund Drive he said you know we've been really fortunate this year so I'd like to share this with you yeah absolutely the exact right reason to be doing this and I was very sweet and now somebody can hopefully be a little more fortunate because of that so go ahead and think about coming down to the north coast co-op today. We're going to be here for another 45 minutes we've been talking about all the great things that food for people does for everybody but it wouldn't be possible without the help of the community so definitely come down drop off real quick drops off a little bit of cash All right so I'm going to play a little music for you here on k. High. Again just to get you through your drive on your way here to the co-op or maybe if you're going to donate online at food for People dot org I've got ways but here the song is called. When you're listening to. Give it to follow. The Lead. A religious. Because. Pienaar when they're with the song imagery you believe is how that said before that was tighten up by the Black Keys we had scarlet zippers in there and weighs 5 with Andromeda have get this is definitely radio without the rules I managed and it is now $533.00 and we are going to be coming to a close of our food drive here very soon but not yet we still have another 30 minutes left and we're trying to raise another $92.00 is what we're looking for we want to hit we had to raise the ceiling of our goal from a 1000 up to $1600.00 and so we're trying to meet that goal of $6500.00 We're raising money for food for people we're going to talk about that just on the other side of this break so hang out. So it's $537.00 we have just about 20 minutes left here at the co-op we're trying to raise another $98.00 I believe because we're here for the food for people fun and funds drive this is grab you by green wired and Murphy's markets we're going to be broadcasting for the next 5 days or the next 4 days so today we're at the cob I have to get the straight you've got a little piece of paper and I look at your little piece of paper Ok Amy is on a do you have your name is on it all right so we're here at the recall up today until 6 and you still have time to bring us that $92.00 balance and make our goal tomorrow or Eureka natural food senior Wednesdays wild berries Thursday is your natural foods McKinley bill and Friday we end up at the Murphy's and Sonny Bray Yes See I know those things but they didn't rattle off as quickly I've been doing. Longer than it is true I would have to roll my eyes back in my head to make that happen Amy She just wrote she's knitting as we speak but I have it right next to me I know she had been this is how I get my my projects done is this a food drive it's a food drive and knitting a fun but it is it is so we've been talking about all the great programs that food for people does and we're just trying to get money and food as well to try to help boost what you guys I'm sure you guys get donations all year round but this is a big boost for you guys right you know I think you know it's the the idea of the holidays and people think about giving and sharing and so forth so it's a real motivator for a lot of folks but there are many people we have actually a monthly giving program called Full plate partners and folks just set up an automatic donation or send in a check once a month some people do a quarterly and that's a really easy way to to donate throughout the year well and then that's money that you guys can depend on yes throughout the year. Amy what's going on and I was going to say I love the full plate program because for the cost of a couple of lattes you can make such a huge difference in our community and terms and you can you can designate where you want to support that but you know $10.00 a month most people who can afford that won't even notice that it's gone yeah that's automatic subscriptions or you know who lose papa now and think about it what can food for people do with $10.00 a month in terms of how many people they can make meals for if you did $20.00 a month it's just it just gets tremendous and it is the easiest thing to do you sign up on line you do it on your credit card or you can make a pledge to do a check but if it if it's gone before you know you even have it in your pocket it is so so easy to do so much good right and again then you guys can plan it because at least you have some idea of how much you're. We having each month that is incredibly helpful because many of the we do get some government funding but usually takes 23 months to get reimbursed for the expenses you've already incurred and often those programs the reimbursement you get covers maybe 4042 percent of the full cost of operating a program and in order to keep these programs viable which we have like the senior brown bag program has been in existence for 28 years now. We really need those regular donations just to make sure that we're good for the next few months and we're not going to anybody down and as a former board member of several nonprofit organizations let me just make a plea for the uncovered funds organization has expenses that come up whether their insurance or the van breaks down or the refer to it or needs repairing or whatever and if you can say here food for people here's the money and you do what you want with it it's like a safety net to make sure that they can keep doing what they do best which is making sure that everybody is fad so that if something does go wrong we've we've seen everything happen over the years have oh yeah yes we just had a $4000.00 Van repaired. But if you say look you do with it what you need to do then that van prepare can come out of those donations and nobody needs to go hungry because of it so I mean that to me is the greatest gift of the season and I know that this time of year is harder for a lot of families harder for a lot of people let's face it even if you're living alone your expenses go up this time of year because utilities go up this time of year where Coulter were darker so it's a harder time of the year and if you have kids and you want to make the holidays happen for them there's that extra stress says is a perfect time if you have enough to give to to make a little a little donation goes a long long way and so we are going to be here today we're going to be here all week where you can always go on to the food for People dot org website Yes and. Donation for people has 2 big pushes of the year there is the holiday spirit food and fun drive which we help with and then in May It's a letter carriers food drive and so what happens is between those 2 food drives the pantry gets pretty darn sparse so this is our chance to really fill it up and really make sure that you all have enough momentum food funds to carry through well into May so that there is no better shelves and nobody goes hungry so I mean we would like to be part of making sure that there is a world without hunger we're going to start with our own backyard right on. Through again have you done this before I mean I can give you 24 years I think of a. You know and I really want to give a shout out to everybody who has stopped by today and shared a few kind words or a personal story and just you know the gratitude is is really immense for everybody we've never had a 1st aid like this never never no I don't Migiro are lucky charm I think and I think if I had a wish if there was some way to make it so that everybody listening could each have a day sitting at the table and seeing what happens when people come by and share their stories and. It's like I'm so glad I don't have to choose between the people who come by with a major check to make a huge difference or the person who goes scrambling in their pocket and pulls out the money and says this is what I can afford please take it right it just gets me every time there is there is no no such thing as too small a gift and there's no such thing as needing help and not being able to come by and get connected that said we're here for both. The whole thing up are there definite yes so $92.00 slush pounds will meet our outrageous it's our rate ever before even 1st day go if any rate is bodes well for the week I hope that we will smash some records going to be amazing there have been years when we have completely blown out of the water what we've done previously and I would just so love this year to be that year that would. Amazing I would really for my 1st time on gay have I would love. Nothing to do with it but I would like to have my 1st year. Of monumental year and again today was just such an awesome day. Making $1500.16 hopefully. Over 15 we're working our way up and see what we can do with your help we can make sure all our friends and neighbors have enough to eat it's true so let's go ahead we're going to play a little bit of music now and I'm going to play you a little sweet track by Twin Peaks but yes don't forget that you have 15 minutes to make our Little $1600.00 goal come true while we're here for the food for people drive again that's brought to you by green wired and Murphy's market. Fantastically grito with the song Push back trying to get him into the game home studio I have a mild connection to him it's a little bit removed but I'm still going to try to push to get him into the studio as we listen in for that it's a big dream anyway it is now just about 8 minutes until 6 o'clock and we are going to be calling it here in our 1st day of our food for people. Say it may mean what you say it's the holiday spirit food and fun to drive and it's our week of life broadcast in support of food for people holiday see I'm going to spirit food and fun to drive it's what food for people does every year I'm going to work in her sleep at this point I have done it in my sleep but not today no it's. It's a chance for everybody to come together and make sure our lives are keep everybody in our community seeing here of and what could be better than that this time of year right so yeah we did the broadcast today we're going to do it all through the week will be a different grocery store every single day tomorrow as Eureka natural foods in Eureka Wednesdays wild berries Thursdays reconnect occludes and McKinley bill so we get up north a little bit right and then we end up the week at Murphy's and sunny break which is perfect since they're one of the sponsors this year so that means I have very happy but you don't have to come and see us although we'd love to have you come see us go on line food for people thought org and make a donation and you can designate a program if you want to and member of the Full Plate Club and all that there's so many cool things going on. I think that today bodes well for so midges our lucky charm the original goal for today was a 1000 pounds slashed dollars and we smashed it we were $1508.00 pounds last dollars so. They're seriously nothing to do with it at all but that's just the. Hour of home and a good cause I think right yeah so tomorrow morning at 9 the nice folks from food for people are going to set up at Eureka natural foods in Eureka I'm going to be on live they they will call in and will and then you'll be live starting at noon and when you get in there at noon. Figure out a good goal for the day based on how the morning went I think. In Eureka tends to be one of our bigger locations in terms of donations so it's kind of like the through down challenge so if the co-op did over 1500 Let's see what you we can add berries Eureka natural foods or Murphy's can do see if we can't grow it a little bit every day right and tomorrow just happens to be senior day and natural foods Oh right through it is going to be a very very busy day yeah and so if you happen to be a senior who is lucky enough to be able to shop and buy things remember that there are others out there who are not as fortunate and there's all these great programs that we've been talking about for them so hopefully people will find it in themselves to go ahead and come give a little money and I have to say that what's to me is one of the things that speaks volumes about how well run food for people is is the incredible work of the volunteers you have how many equivalent positions run by volunteers it's the equivalent of 14 full time staff positions so it's roughly 400 volunteers every single month doing a wide variety of things and we just adore them and some of them been with the organization more than 2 decades so they've really hung in there and shown their commitment and many of the volunteers started off as clients who continue to give back even though they no longer need the help it's all very impressive it's like one of these models of sustainability that we keep looking for in our world and it's right here under our nose so when we're out there please stop by and come and talk with our staff we'll have staff there every day this week. For the live broadcasts and starting at 9 every morning and it's a great opportunity to learn more about our programs and if you have any questions or ideas to share we're down for that. So thank you to the for making us so home and yeah giving us your view of the produce. This is about as nice as it gets . And onwards and upwards we go congratulations you did your 1st marathon today. Yes welcome to game yeah we're going to put you we're. Going to say exactly the 1st day there are still 4 left to go did I not warn you about this they know it's been fun it has been fun and again it's all for a good cause so it feels really good to be here and helping out and hopefully you spread the word you know together together we can make sure we can make sure all our friends and neighbors all our friends and neighbors have enough to eat have enough to eat till death do us part. I do. That. All right so I'm going to go ahead and conclude this broadcast right now but hopefully you'll come see us tomorrow when we are at Eureka natural foods. In Eureka and chicken scratch up at 7 and the debut. Today as of the day yes that's right yes it's huge huge yes big day today guess Mozart is going to be on from 9 until midnight and the chicken scratch show will be on from 7 into line so all very exciting and again I want to thank the sponsors of.
