We start with the Trump Administration trying to regroup after that stunning setback on health care. Also this weekend, Trump Supporters were out holding rallies. They released a dove in california. Promoting peace. However, a short while later, scuffles broke out with counterprotesters. Meanwhile, Vice President pence hit the road telling Small Business owners in coal country that his boss will go back to the drawing board on health care. Vowing that obamacare will not be around for long. How realistic is this promise . Our chief anchor, George Stephanopoulos is standing by. The Trump Administration is doing its best to regroup after that big defeat on the health care. Telling supporters not to worry. But tensions are running high. The president s opponents emboldened by this. His supporters are not giving an inch. [ bleep ]. Reporter in ohio. California. And even the jersey shore, fistfights and mayhem at protrump rallies, as protesters clash with supporters. [ crowd chanting ] all no trump. No kkk. Reporter a protester allegedly peppersprayed one of the organizers in california. Witnesses say a group of flagwaving Trump Supporters tackled him and proceeded to beat him up. The mayhem caught on camera. And shared on social media. The california Highway Patrol ended up making several arrests. At philadelphias independence mall, police cut short another trump rally, citing safety reasons. Two sides squared off and sounded off at each other. This morning trump bramd conservative groups by not supporting the gop plan tweeting democrats are smiling. Vice president mike mens was out in coal country. We will end the obamacare nightmare and give the American People the World Class Health care that they deserve. [ applause ] reporter the president enjoying his saturday at his golf course predicting obamacare will explode. Former Obama Administration Officials Say that partly depends on him. When he says this will explode is part of that in his power . Donald trump has experienced a number of setbacks. In his young presidency. The firing of his National Security adviser. The courts block his travel bans. The fbi investigating his teams ties to russia. Now this health bill. Is this usual . Is this the usual growing pains for a new president . Or is this something unprecedented and can he come back from it . Paul ryan said it right, you cant sugar coat this. And you cant sugarcoat this for president trump. Looking at these first 67 days, its as stumbling a start as we have seen in modern times. For any president. Listen, all president s lose big fights with congress. No president loses his first big fight with congress, especially on a promise thats been out there for seven years. Especially when his Party Controls both houses of congress. The president talked about the lessons he learned from this. Lessons of loyalty, the legislative process. There will be a lot of questions about the president s competence and credibility coming out of this loss. You mentioned paul ryan. Theres the aftermath of the bill. The relationship with paul ryan. The speaker of the house, where that stands but yesterday did something unusual. Trump sent out a tweet. Urged people to watch fox news host Jeanine Pirro at 9 00. And then when she came on, she argued that ryan is at fault and that he should step down. What should we read out of this . She said that right out of the box. She says she didnt talk to the president about this. But its curious. The president said watch Jeanine Pirro. She says paul ryan has to go. The president is publicly standing by ryan but privately hes had questions about whether this was the right way to go, to go first with the obamacare repeal. Apparently he said several times in internal meetings, we should have gone with tax reform first. It was never a very close relationship in the first place. Remember, back in october, after access hollywood had the tape come out, paul ryan said he was done with president trump. This has not been a close relationship. They were trying to keep up a good public front. A complicated relationship, for sure. No guarantee that tax reform is going to be easy either. You have the chairman of the Freedom Caucus on the show this morning. The conservative legislators who defied the president on health care. How big a challenge will this group be for the president Going Forward . Bigtime. It appears theyre not afraid to buck him when they need to. Though they say this was not a question of being disloyal. You look at tax reform. Members of the Freedom Caucus say tax cuts have to be paid for. Its a lot more difficult to pay for a new tax given that you dont have now a trillion dollars that they were counting on a trillion, a trillion that they were counting on on obamacare. Theyre going to push him hard on the debt limit. On whether or not in order to extend the debt limit you should have a path to balance the budget which the president s budget doesnt have a path toward a balanced budget. This is just the begin of course what is likely to be a very fractious relationship. George stephanopoulos, thank you very much. George has a big show this morning. Nearly back to back to back Severe Weather events. This is the storm that came through yesterday. We might get more storms across the appalachians. The next storm, out of colorado into the plains today. A likely outbreak from overnight, dallas through oklahoma city. The ingredients coming together. Cool canadian air. Dry air from mexico. Moisture from the gulf of mexico today. I35 looks to be the hot spot. Thats where we think storms will fire. And during the overnight hours, thats where we think theyll be dangerous and another setup on tuesday. Right in the heart of that, dallas, is phillip mena with more coverage this morning. This morning, communities across the south hit hard after storms ripped through destroying homes, collapsing roofs and tearing up trees. This was a Side Entrance to our fellowship hall. Reporter in northern louisiana, pastor martha showing us whats left of her church of nearly 40 years. After powerful winds swept through. The roof blown off. The concrete walls crumbled. Bibles among the piles of debris. Its pretty rough, you know, seeing the building like it is. Reporter luckily, the storm hit in the middle of the night. And im just so thankful that theres no one in the building. No one got hurt. Reporter down the road, a neighbor sawing this massive uprooted tree. In cato, arkansas, an ef2 tornado, bringing winds up to 120 miles an hour. The whole house was shaking. I knew it wasnt an earthquake. Reporter the twister on the ground for seven minutes, flipping this mobile home. The bottom, gone. Here, only the frame left. This homes ceiling caved in. Unfortunately, we could see similar scenes playing out here in this region later tonight as we brace for a new round of Severe Weather. Right now is literally the calm before the storm. Dan . For hours, the famed Las Vegas Strip shut down. Watch out for crossfire. Guy with the rifle. Reporter thousands of tourists kept at a distance. People dropped everything everywhere. Because they were in such a hurry to get out. Reporter a s. W. A. T. Team surrounded this public bus outside the cosmopolitan hotel, trying to capture the suspect they say got on board saturday afternoon and randomly opened fire on passengers. He just starting shooting indiscriminately. Reporter one victim killed. Another shot in the abdomen expected to survive. The other passengers managing to escape as the accused gunman barricaded himself on board. Police using an explosive and launching a robotic camera into the second deck of the bus, trying to get a better look at the accused killer before he finally surrendered. He has mental issues. We found that very evident. We know theres no terrorism nexus. Reporter this, just hours after another scare on the strip. The bellagio put on lockdown. After a heist at this highend jewelry store. New video shows three suspected thieves wearing animal masks, making their getaway, after using sledgehammers to smash their way into the rolex store. Possible active shooter in a zebra mask. Reporter police not commenting on how much was stolen. And Police Made One arrest in that case. This morning, they are still searching for the other suspects. This morning, were seeing disturbing new images of the murder of a former russian lawmaker who was a wellknown and vocal critic of vladimir putin. The man, an opponent of the russian president , gunned down in broad daylight, after defecting to ukraine. This, after a recent interview saying, his life was in danger. The newly released Surveillance Video captures it all. The horrifying suspected assassination of former Russian Parliament member and putin critic, denis voronenkov. In broad daylight on the streets of kiev. Watch as the shooter approaches voronenkov and his bodyguard. Here, firing a gun. In the footage just made public, watch as the body guard, also wounded, returning fire, fatally wounding the gunman. This was done on main street, in front of a very fashionable hotel was to tell other people, when you go against us, this is what is going to happen to you. Reporter the kremlin denies any role in voronenkovs killing. But this is not the first untimely death to befall a critic of putins leadership. Over the years, from lawyers to journalists, a number of putin critics have ended up dead. Earlier this week, another putin critic seriously injured in a suspicious fall from his fourth floor apartment in moscow. As for voronenkov, just last month, saying he accepted his fate. His widow now mourns the loss of her husband. The president of ukraine denouncing the suspected assassination as an act of state terrorism on the orders of putin. At least 14 injured after the shots rang out around 2 00 this morning as hundreds of people gathered at the Cameo Nightclub in cincinnati. The wounded were taken to area hospitals. Police say theyre looking for the shooter, possibly more than one shooter. And they do not yet have a motive. They dont believe this is terrorismrelated. Overnight, the pentagon announcing a u. S. Air strike in eastern afghanistan last weekend killed a senior al qaeda leader believed to be responsible for multiple terror attacks, including a 2008 bombing in islamabad, pakistan, that killed two american soldiers. Earlier in the day, the u. S. Taking responsibility for an air strike earlier this month that was targeting militants that residents say killed more than 100 civilians. The military says it is investigating those claims. And now, to london, where police are saying the suspect in wednesdays deadly attack, khalid masood, acted alone. In an assault that lasted 82 seconds. This is new video. Just moments after that rampage. You see police rushing in to help the injured. The suspect taken down. He was fatally shot by police. Notice the gates into Britains Parliament left open and unguarded in the confusion. Back in the u. S. , federal investigators say cockpit audio from the small private plane that crashed into a home in an atlanta suburb indicated maybe a problem with the autopilot. That may be to blame. This, as investigators are learning more about her relationship with her former teacher, now accused of taking her. This morning, authorities shedding new light about how a 15yearold and her former teacher were communicating days before he allegedly kidnapped her. The pair allegedly leaving email messages through a computer at the school. They would save the message. Let it save as a draft. The other person would log in, read the message, and delete it. Reporter Law Enforcement say they uncovered deleted messages between 15yearold thomas and her teacher, 50yearold tad cummins. The messages showed a romantic relationship. Authorities saying he researched other ways to communicate. Looking up if it was secure to send messages through apps like instagram and specific encrypted texting apps. She never named him by name. She told me that she had met this guy. She was talking about him. She seemed really happy. Reporter but ashley said she thought elizabeths boyfriend was older, she never imagined he was 50. This little girl is in danger. And in more danger every minute that passes. Reporter Chandler Anderson worked with cummins in a hospital. He says the teacher didnt handle authority well. He thinks his opinions are the only ones that matter. Where does he go . To a classroom. Where he has a captive audience of 30 to 35 children. None of them can object to what hes saying because hes a teacher. Reporter its been nearly two weeks since investigators say cummins kidnapped the teen. A nationwide alert in place.
