Our own aviation expert, who youll hear from shortly, is stressing that this was no ordinary emergency and could easily have resulted in somebody getting killed. As you can see from the pictures, part of an engine on this southwest flight blew apart. And shrapnel may have penetrated the cabin itself. Those images are disturbing. That flight was filled with families, including Young Children, heading from new orleans to orlando. There was confusion as the plane made an emergency landing. Adrienne bankert is there in washington, d. C. With more. Including the stories of the passengers and audio from inside the cockpit. Hi, adrienne. Reporter hello to you. Good morning. Southwest writing in a statement, initial reports indicate there were no injuries among the 99 passengers and 5 crew members on board. Adding, its cooperating with an ntsb investigation. Our flight expert Steve Ganyard saying that these kinds of incidents are extremely rare. Still, it makes you think to pay more attention to that safety briefing when you get on the plane. Listening to those flight attendants. Most of the 99 passengers and 5 crew members, so thankful to those pilots for keeping them alive. Paula, back to you. Pretty extraordinary. I cant imagine looking out the window and seeing that shredded engine. Thank you, adrienne. To the other big story this morning. And donald trump is weighing in on this shooting both on twitter and on the stump as he continues to try to reach out to minority voters. He was in the key battleground state of iowa, where he was also talking immigration in the midst of so many questions about his apparently evolving plans for dealing with people who have come to this country illegally. Abcs david wright is in des moines. David, good morning to you. Reporter good morning, dan. The donald trump that showed up here in des moines was a more disciplined, more policyoriented candidate than the one were used to seeing. Reading from teleprompters, he sought to clarify his views and express passion. In recent days, the media, as it usually does, has missed the whole point on immigration. Reporter trump now insists his immigration plan is not just a bumper sticker, build the wall and throw them out. We will use Immigration Law to prevent crimes and we will not wait until some innocent american has been harmed or killed. Reporter he cited the case of sara root, a young iowa woman who was killed by a drunk driver, who was in the country illegally. The driver posted bail, and promptly disappeared. Trump invited roots family on stage with him. Like mr. Trump said, they let us down. They had him, they let him go. I think hes very positive. I like what im hearing now. I think we need to get rid of the hoodlums and the drug problems. Reporter trump also brought up inner city violence. The cousin of nba star dwyane wade, a great guy, dwyane wade, was the victim of a tragic shooting. Reporter expressing compassion after that shooting in chicago. This shouldnt happen in our country. Africanamericans will vote trump. That first tweet brought a firestorm of reaction. Only four hours after he sent it did donald trump finally tweet out his sympathies. Paula . A firestorm indeed. David, thank you. Speaking of donald trump, he had his First National security briefing 11 days ago. Hillary clinton had hers yesterday at an fbi facility near her home in new york. This morning, clinton cannot avoid renewed criticism and questions about whether Clinton Foundation donors received preferential treatment while she was in the state department. This is a storyline not going away for her. Abcs devin dwyer on the beat. Reporter thats right. These emails provide information about direct ties between Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation. Which critics say were too close. This morning, Hillary Clinton facing new questions about whether top donors to the Clinton Foundation received special treatment while she was secretary of state. Abc news has exclusively obtained these emails between then Top Foundation official doug band and clintons inner circle. In one exchange, the Foundation Official suggests guests for a state lunch with the chinese president. On the list . Executives from three groups that donated millions to the foundation. In another exchange, shes asked to relay a message to the ambassador of malta. On behalf of a big supporter of the Clinton Foundation. That big spotter donating more than a 1 million. She forwards it along and writes, just want to pass along for info. No need for action. Donald trump has seized on the close ties. Its hard to tell where the Clinton Foundation ends and where the state department begins. Reporter the state Department DeniesFoundation Donors got any special favors. My work as secretary of state was not influenced by any outside forces. Reporter and the Clinton Foundation says these emails were not related to its works. When asked about the official guest lists, both the state department and the Clinton Campaign say they believe its not inappropriate for outside groups, such as the foundation, to offer suggestions. Dan and paula. And that gets to the issue we want to discuss with martha raddatz. Devin, thank you. As we said, for more on all this, were going bring in our chief Foreign Affairs correspondent martha raddatz. Martha, you covered the state department for years. How unusual is it really to have this kind of coordination between the Clinton Foundation and secretary clintons government staff . Well, its not uncommon that people inside and outside the government are in touch and even asking for favors. But these emails are between Clinton Foundation staff and secretary clintons senior staff on behalf of the major donors. To the foundation. So, thats the real issue here. Were they getting favors from the state department because of their donations to the foundation . Theres been nothing proven. But lots of questions about the appearance of a conflict. Dan. And martha, its only august. Do you think this conservative group, citizens united, thats releasing these email, do you think they may have a bigger bomb to drop come october . Paula, what we do know is that clinton and her lawyers say she turned over all workrelated emails to the state department from her private server. Yet, the fbi found nearly 15,000 more during their investigation. Those 15,000plus emails on the server from clinton staffers will continue to drip out until election day. And, maybe even after that. So this issue and perhaps more not going away anytime soon. Martha raddatz, really appreciate your guidance on a sunday morning. We should say martha will have much more on the president ial campaign coming up later this morning on this week, right here on abc. Adding, to me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. Some fans supporting him. Others outraged. I dont think it helps the cause any. Its not hurting anybody. Reporter online, fellow athletes divided. Former running back tiki barber writing he disagrees with kaepernicks actions but defending him for using his platform and brand to make a compelling and polarizing point. Ending with the hashtag, i dont agree. Other former and current players criticizing kaepernick. One of them urging him to find another way. You have to stand up there with your team. And understand that its this game. Whats going on around the country is bigger than you. Reporter the outspoken quarterback, who is biracial, often takes to social media. To voice his opinions. In a written statement, the nfl said players are encouraged, but not required, to stand during the playing of the National Anthem. And 20 years ago, an nba player was suspended for refusing to stand for the star spangled banner. Kaepernick will not face discipline by either the league or the 49ers. He says if this is the end of his career, or the end of his endorsements, its worth it because he says he did the right thing even if a lot of americans disagree, and many will disagree, thats for sure. Many are disagreeing. But at least hes going out on his own principle and accepting the consequences. If they do indeed happen. Exactly. Thank you, ron. Lets check the weather. Rob, whats cooking . Your first tip is to do nothing . Thats right. Have you ever had that moment when youre working on a problem, looking for a solution comes to you when youre in the shower or at a time when youre not looking for it . Our brains are more likely to come up with things when were idle. When youre not doing anything in particular. Next you say silence is golden . Thats right. Ive interviewed some of the most creative minds. They say silence, spending time in meditation, or taking walks in nature, those kinds of things can actually really help boost your creativity. Im a huge proponent of meditation, as you know. And finally, your third piece of advice here is to engage in play. Thats right. Human beings are the only mammals who stop playing in adulthood. Your pets play into their old age. So, engaging in team sports, playing with your pet or your child, those are the kinds of things that may lead to breakthrough ideas. I love it.
