These charges stem from a Sexual Assault that took place on an evening in early 2004 at mr. Cosbys home in Montgomery County. Mr. Cosby is charged with aggravated indecent assault. This is a felony of the first degree. Mr. Cosbys attorney has been notified of the charges and he is expect today be arraigned later this afternoon. When we have a specific time for that, well let you know. And thats going to be at the magisterial District Judges Office in elkins park. The charges today are filed as a result of new information that came to light in july of 2015. Statute of limitations in this type of case is 12 years. After determining that the statute of limitations regarding potential criminal offenses had not yet expired, the investigation was reopened. Chief norris and the township police, Montgomery County detectives and prosecutors from our office have reviewed the initial investigation. Resbrer viewed some witnesses and examined information from the case and alleged victims. The evidence showed mr. Cosby established a relationship with the victim after meeting her through her Work Associated with Temple Universitys Womens Basketball program. Through the course of their association, the victim came to consider mr. Cosby her mentor and her friend. On two other occasions before the incident leading to the criminal charge in this case, mr. Cosby made two sexual advances at her that were rejected. On the evening in question, mr. Cosby urged her to take pills that he provided to her and to drink wine. The effect of which rendered her unable to move, respond to his advances and he committed aggravated indecent assault upon her. Now, prosecutors job is to follow the evidence wherever it takes us. And sometimes that means whenever it comes to light. When u. S. Federal judge edward rabrano unsealed legal filings that contained references to the civil deposition and we learned about allegations from other victims under similar circumstances, reopening this case was not a question. Rather it was our duty as Law Enforcement officers with a sworn obligation to uphold our constitutions and to uphold the law. Today after examination of all the evidence, we are able to seek justice on behalf of the victim. Now, Going Forward and we ask that anyone that has any information regarding any similar incidents with mr. Cosby come forward, we ask them to contact either the Montgomery County Detective Bureau or the township police. At this point i will take questions. Do you know anything about the legality of the deposition . As evidence in this case . I know there was a question about that early on. Well, i cant at this point. You know, theres going to be motion that is will be filed in the case and matters to be litigated. I cant give you a determination of how that is going to result. But the depositions were released by the federal court judge and we examined them and examined other evidence that we were able to obtain in this case. Other questions . Where is this teenager and the mother right now . Huh how soon will they be hauled back to the u. S. . They are still in mexico in the custody of the mexican authorities. We expect within the next 24 to 48 hours to have them back here in texas. You have reported that the teenager and his mother had a sort of Going Away Party before they even left. So im curious about the punishment now. This teenager had only ever faced probation for drunk driving killing four. What kind of punishment does he face now . What were hoping is that he will be placed into an adult court system and placed on an adult probation system which will be very, very strict and very intensive. Much different than what he was under the juvenile system. Probably the way it looks under the law as messed up as it is hell probably only be able to sentence him to 120 days actually in jail under the old case but then he would be able to put him under very, very intense supervision on probation, much different than he was before. The potential for 120 days for the teenager in the meantime, the mom could face more jail time than the son. Thats true. The case were filing against her for assisting him and hindering an apprehension in texas is a felony punishable by two to ten years in the penitentiary so she could conceivably do actual prison time and we certainly will push to have her prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. You found them in Puerto Vallarta. What kind of message does this send to that community where four families are remembering their loved ones killed in that drunk driving incident. Yeah, i mean its just terrible for those families. Theyve all been victimized all over again. They just had to all spend christmas without a loved one because of his irresponsible activities and so i know from talking to some of the family members they were very hopeful that we would catch him and bring him back to texas and let him face justice and such that it is and i know theyre very relieved hes in custody and hopefully on the way back to texas soil. In the last hour prosecutors in pennsylvania announced cosby will be be charged with a felony. This is the first criminal case against cosby. A former employee at Temple University claims cosby drugged and then violated her at his home 12 years ago. She says cosby was her mentor. The statute of limitations expires next month. The evidence shows mr. Cosby established a relationship with the victim. Mr. Cosby made two sexual advances at her. That were rejected. On the evening in question mr. Cosby urged her to take pills that he provided to her and to drink wine. The effect of which rendered her unable to move. Respond to ahis advances and he committed aggravated indecent assault upon her. Cosby is expected to be arraigned later this afternoon. Lets go to abcs legal analyst dave abrams. Lets start by getting your reaction. To this Stunning Development. It is stunning. Because this is a case they investigated and decided not to file charges in in the past. Now hes charged with a crime where he could face up to 10 years behind bars. What changed . The first of all, you have got his own statements in connection with this civil case, not criminal coming out. So for the first time the authorities see what bill cosby said. Theyre going to try and use that against him. Second you have got all these other alleged victims and the prosecutors believe they will be able to call some of them to the witness stand. So you have got two big new developments that led to this charge. Dan, how confident should prosecutors be that theyre going to be allowed to bring these other accusers to the witness stand in this case . Well, thats right. Theres going to be a fight over that because the Legal Standard that theyre going to have to overcome is does this show this was a pattern. You cant just introduce other alleged victims just to show hes a bad guy who does bad things. You have to be able to show that this was a pattern of conduct. Thats going to be a huge legal fight. Theres also going to be a huge legal fight about whether to allow in his statement in the civil case which was supposed to be sealed and confidential. Dan, just to clarify, this was a case the allegations stem from an incident in 2004. Local prosecutors investigated in twefnt 04 and 05 and declined to bring charges. It is 12 years later after we have seen all these other women step forward that theyre moving on this case . Thats right. If you look at the specific charge here, its a very specific allegation under pennsylvania law that makes it clear theyre using bill cosbys own statement about what he said happened. Its a very specific allegation there and as a result, they have got that new piece of evidence. They feel theyre armed now with something they never had before that allows them to bring this charge only a month before the statute of limitations. Dan, thank you. Eight months ago the facebook coo and disney board member lost her husband of 11 years and father of their two children, Dave Goldberg passing away during a Family Vacation at the age of just 47. Sandberg called goldberg her best friend, the love of her life and a key part of her professional success as she shared in her 2011 Barnard College commencement address. If you pick someone who is willing to share the burdens and the joys of your personal life, youre going to go further. Reporter in the post sandberg opens up about the painful loss writing, when i first lost dave i felt like overwhelmed with just getting through each day. But sandberg says that dark time ushered in some brighter moments mainly from the support of her lifelong girlfriends. They did not just hold me as i cried, they cried with me. One day i took my kids out to the backyard to play and just about five minutes of being outside, i had to sit down because i was so tired and that was my breaking point. I wanted to be a better mom and a better wife. My name is Angela Montanez and im 35 years old. My journey began when i was 10 years old. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune liver disease. You use it multiple times a day and a critical part of your morning routine and take these glass vessels which could be on your mantel or in your cabinet, soap, qtips. Thats a cake tray. Cake stand is one of my favorite organizing and decorative organizational tip. In a cabinet or to go higher. Put this in a bathroom and glass is a great option and keep it clean and add these pieces on it and even on a jewelry stand or on your dresser multiple cake tears and small dishes for jewelry. I have a cake tray that has never been used because i dont bake. That will come in handy. What are we doing here. Cabinets are a chore to get through. Tension rods are a crazy secret trick. Tension rods perfect for under the sink and hang on, lets see, great. Hang on cleaning supplies like that and then, of course, for the things impossible, these pans and cutting boards. The whole so bang. I stack them so high. You yank one out and fall towards you. You can use them as these stanchions in between. So great and looks my cupboards do not look like this. These are for decorations. This is the perfect thing to try. Just a regular plexi bend or tension rod, string two across there and just hang the ons. You avoid tissue altogether. No breaking. You see what you have, they can stack and then its just super easy and fun to decorate the re. Where do you get a tension rod. Hardware store. Any hard ware store. Another place like my kitchen ive never visited but i will be there soon. No such thing as dumb questions. This is an 18inch or 24inch one and go the length, the short kind. I dont want to miss this. This wall is something i can use. I dont have magnets and this is awesome. This is also great for a kitchen command center. Everyone has these christmas cards or pictures they printed out. It was very difficult for a variety of reason, number one, i dont really know much about real estate. I wasnt a huge real estate aficionado beforehand so i had to learn the lingo and all that. And its also a very sad situation, but its one that you kind of have to confront head on. I think rick is a survivalist. Hes just trying to figure out how to use the system to his advantage. And despite how sad the story is, i had to keep track of that. Yeah, the movie is so powerful and its resonated with so Many Americans who literally lived through it and watching the movie, i understand people have come up to you and given you their business cards. Yeah, there have been screenings where people a lot came up and told me they survived foreclosures or started organizations to try and deal with this situation and its just a very powerful feeling when you make a movie that is that much based in reality that isnt just superheroes flying around in the sky. Were used to seeing you play intense, dark characters. Youve changed things up a bit starring alongside seth rogen and Joseph Gordonlevitt in the comedy the night before. So they sent something out saying the dress code was ugly christmas sweater and i took it very seriously and then all the rest of the cast showed up in fancy suits.
