This morning, how he walked away without a scratch. And good morning, america. We have a lot to get to this thursday. And we begin with all the fallout from that deadly Train Derailment. Theres the aerial footage right now. New details coming in overnight. A brandnew satellite image from google. It shows the train off the track, the cars toppled. At least seven people now confirmed dead. More than 200 injured. Were learning the name of the engineer of the train that was going more than 100 miles an hour. Well over the speed limit. Well hear from his attorney in a moment. But first, paula faris starts off our Team Coverage this morning. Good morning, paula. Reporter good morning, robin. The mayor calling the driver reckless and irresponsible. Meanwhile, the ntsb acknowledging speed was a factor. Telling me this morning they have a lot of long days ahead in regards to the investigation. Its been nearly 36 hours since the crash. For the families still missing loved ones, a race against time. As the search to find missing passengers intensifies this morning, authorities are zeroing in on the speed of the train and this man, 32yearold engineer brandon bostian. He was driving the train more than 100 miles an hour. Even though the speed limit leading up to the curve is 50 miles an hour. The train was traveling at approximately 106 miles per hour. Reporter the ntsb says the speed made the train jump its tracks. The first car twisted into a mangled heap, killing at least seven passengers, injuring 200. Theres people stuck in here. They cant get out. Reporter this Surveillance Video shows the moment of when the train rounds the bend. What looks to be several explosions follow. Officials say bostian applied the emergency brakes just moments before the accident. Decreasing from 106 to 102 miles an hour. It was too late. He remembers driving a train. He remembers going to that area generally. Has absolutely no recollection of the incident or anything unusual. Reporter hes been questioned but says he has no recollection of the accident or how it could have happened. I asked him if he had medical issues. He said he had none. Reporter the violent crash injuring 200 people and killing 7. Including rachel jacobs, a ceo and mother of a 2yearold. She texted her husband an hour before the crash. I remember her as a wonderful young lady. Always full of life and energy. Reporter as well as dr. Derrick griffith. An academic from new york dedicated to improving city schools. This morning, the frantic search continues for the passengers unaccounted for. Including bob gildersleeve, a businessman from baltimore whose son is still searching for his dad. My name is mark gildersleeve. Please help me find my dad. Reporter and questions whether this could have been prevented. There are systems that can limit a trains speed. Positive train control which some rail lines contain including parts of the northeast corridor but not in this part of the system. As of this morning, 42 remain hospitalized, 10 in critical condition. The engineer suffered a concussion and was banged up. Hes been released from the hospital. George . Thanks, paula. Were joined by brandon bostians attorney, robert goggin. Thank you for joining us. Your client got pretty beat up. How is he doing . He has 15 staples in his head. Stitches in one leg. The other knee is immobilized. He has a concussion. On top of that, he looked exhausted. Mayor nutter, the mayor of philadelphia, calls mr. Bostian reckless and irresponsible. Your response . I dont know the basis for that. We know the train was going at excessive speed but the reasons why are still to be determined. We know the emergency brake was hit but has your client given you any information as to why the train was going so fast . He has not. I believe as a result of the concussion he has absolutely no recollection whatsoever of the events. Im told that his memory is likely to return as the concussion symptoms subside. He spent six hours with the police. What did he tell them . Everything he knew. He cooperated fully. What is the last thing he remembers . He remembers coming into the curve. He remembers um attempting to reduce speed. Thereafter, he was knocked out, thrown around just like all the other passengers in the train. He remembers deploying the emergency brake . He does not remember deploying the emergency brake. It was, in fact, deployed. The last thing he recalls is coming to, looking for his bag, getting his cell phone, turning it on, and calling 911. Had your client been drinking at all . Nothing. In fact, the Police Department requested a search warrant for his blood. He consented immediately. No drinking. They dont need the search warrant. No drinking, no drugs, no medical conditions. Nothing. How about speaking on the phone or texting . Hes turned over his cell phone as well. His phone was off and in his bag, as is required by amtrak rules. Has he ever had any kind of mishaps before as an engineer . No, none. No explanation for what happened . I can give you nothing. Youll have to wait for his memory to come back or other facts be ascertained by the ntsb investigation. When will he be meeting again with investigators . When they ask. What does he want the victims to know . We didnt discuss that. I can tell you that he was distraught as he learned of the devastation. He was distraught. Abcs david kerley is there and david, i can imagine that the ntsb is anxious to talk to the engineer. Reporter absolutely, robin. We now know what happened. Speed was involved here. Twice the limit on the corner just on the other side of those buildings behind me. The question is why. You just heard the attorney say the engineer has no recollection. I just spoke with a member from the ntsb board who is here about what they want to do, what they want to learn from that engineer. We have not interviewed the engineer. We look forward to that opportunity. I want to point out that its not unusual for somebody who has been through a traumatic event to have some memory loss, at least shortterm memory loss. Reporter will they speak to him today . Its a possibility. Thats unlikely. They may wait a day or two until he recoverers a little bit more. You mentioned infrastructure. That is a problem with some of the rails. There is a Safety System and paula mentioned positive train control. It is on parts of rails all over the place. All rails are supposed to have it by the end of this year. The ntsb does not believe theyll meet that deadline. Its the rail telling the train, youre going too fast, and it slows it down. This morning, bombshell allegations against angelina graswald. Walking back to jail after being charged with the seconddegree murder of her fiance. Prosecutor saying she admitted to investigators that she tampered with 46yearold vincent viafores kayak so he would take on water. Saying she knew those actions would contribute to his death. They say she told police she watched him struggle in the icy water in upstate new york for several minutes before he went under. Something she also told this local tv station in the days after viafores death. I saw him struggling. He was trying to figure out how to paddle the waves. Reporter she didnt tell reporters that it felt good knowing he was going to die. This was her only way out. Viafores body has never been found. Prosecutors saying she did it all for two Life Insurance policies that could benefit her a total of 250,000. And talked about what she could possibly do with the money. This morning, graswalds lawyers plan to challenge the alleged confessions. They say much like the smiling pictures she had online after her fiances death, the statements may be the product of a cultural difference. A language barrier, or worse. Well find out what happened. Miller claims that cladakis, who is also his caddie, was having an affair with the golfer. Causing alienation of affection and intentional infliction of emotional distress. You have to prove there was love in the marriage. That somebody broke up that love. The so called alienation of affection law exists in six states. One of them, mississippi, thats where miller filed the suit. Saying that while none of them live there, daly and cladakis had some trysts in the state. Now cladakis is fighting back asking the court to throw the mississippi suit out. Arguing the state has no jurisdiction. In a statement overnight, daly tells abc news, cant wait to get on stand and tell them that anna is the greatest woman in my life. Legal experts say this is a tough case for a person to win. A court has to decide with clear evidence whether there was alienation of affection. Of course, it had to have happened in mississippi. Which is one of six states that has it . Yes. One thing to recognize is that the word natural is simply not a priority when it comes to sunscreen. A lot of patients think natural is better. Its not. When brad bird the director and one of the writers with damon, came to me with the project, i thought, um, i loved the idea of it. The idea was, you know, were losing sight of, its sort of it starts with the nasa program and how were losing sight of doing the things we used to do and dreaming. And were losing sight of doing things. And any Single Person can make a difference. Yeah, im a big believer in that. I love the way they pitched the movie to you, too. Is it true they brought you the original tomorrowland plans from disney world . They had white gloves on. It was a blueprint. They shined a black light on it. There was an entire other blueprint for tomorrowland to be built under tomorrowland. They never did it. It inspired them. You come to this naturally. We did research. You were an inventor. A built a couple of robots for a science fair. My father had a talk show that i would go on. We have to show the George Clooney that built the robots. Thats a good hair cut. My mom cut my hair. You cant tell, really. That was i still have those glasses, too. Theyre working. Theres worse pictures of me out there. That one doesnt come close. Theres bad pictures of all of us out there.
