I was able to watch from my hotel room as ranks of police fired on protesters carrying little more than sticks and makeshift shields. They fell where they stood. I saw at least seven protesters shot. The wounded were dragged away while hoisted on to makeshift gurneys. The lobby in our hotel was turned into a Field Hospital and morgue. Scores of bodies have been laid out under sheets by the reception desk. The number keeps rising. Security forces have taken up positions on the upper floors of our hotel, as well and shooting down at protesters from there. Journalists have been targeted. Matt mcgarry was hit by two rounds that came in his window. All talk of ceasefire has all but disappeared. The clashes can be heard around the hotel and echo across the city. Protesters are erecting new fortifications and Police Responding with machine guns and flash grenades. Sources tell abc news new credible intelligence obtained from overseas suggests that terrorist bombmakers have stepped up efforts to build shoe bombs to design liquid explosives and to hide them in cosmetic containers, the goal, to smuggle bombs on commercial international flights. No specific plot has been identified but the threat is being taken seriously. Passengers flying to the u. S. From overseas can expect to see additional patdowns and extra scrutiny of their shoes and carryon items. Its an unusual defense to say the least. Jason bonds lawyers claims he suffers from a posttraumatic Mental Illness because his mom, a successful abandoned him for her career. He is an accused murderer blaming his mommy. 35yearold jason bond, new york lawyer, has admitted to brutally beating and strangling his girlfriend, a 27yearold Weight Watchers executive. Now in his trial on first degree murder charges, bonds attorneys say its his mothers fault. It was traumatized when his mom, successful pub lyricer began devoting herself to her career when he was 10. The doctors agreed that maureen abandoned her children because she wanted to pursue her career in publishing. Reporter prosecutors say the murder was cruel and intentional. In june, 2012, Danielle Thomas was found in the apartment she shared with bond, her body in a tub filled with ice. This Surveillance Video taken on the day of her murder shows the Ivy League Educated attorney buying ice. Days later bond left this voice mail message for an exgirlfriend. Danielle is dead. I dont remember anything that happened. Okay . I think i pushed her. Reporter in court, prosecutors also played another message. This one left when one of the couples cell phones accidentally dialed a friend as thomas was being attacked on the night of her death. A recording so troubling her family had to leave the courtroom. She is repeatedly saying i cant breathe. Reporter but in an unusual legal turn, the defense says bonds mommy issues can create an uncontrollable rage. Forensic psychiatrist, Alexander Sasha barty is a key expect for the defense. He is also a consultant for the crime drama lay and order svu he claims bond suffers from intermittent explosive disorder. Having violent bursts of anger when reminded of her childhood. Bonds mother has not been in court but is reportedly using her 1. 3 million salary to fund his defense. All to keep her son from paying a hefty price. Now, though bond had pleaded not, the defense is now seeking a conviction on lesser manslaughter charges. Meaning he is so lost his mind in effect that he couldnt develop the intent required. There is no way that this defense is going to succeed. Im not in any way comparing the two cases fwlu are echos of a case in texas the affluenza case, the teenager was driving drunk, wasnt sent to prison because he was so drunk. Thats the case that people mention. Huge differences, though, between the cases. That was a juvenile case in juvenile court. It wasnt really determined based on that affluenza. That was one witness, one reason that the judge didnt give a juvenile age 16 jail time. This is totally different. Youre talking about an adult and this is his defense. I mean, this is the heart and soul of the defense. If the jury does not buy this, he is convicted of murder. Certainly one to watch. Robin . Thank you both.
