This youth minister takes home gold on the halfpipe, the secret good luck charm from his wife and this morning we go oneonone with americas new skating sweethearts only on gma. Good morning, america. And good morning, america. And what a morning it has been for ted ligety. Taking gold for america in the giant slalom just a few moments ago. Becomes the First American man to win two olympic gold medals in Alpine Skiing. Terrific. And bode miller had a knee injury in his first run. Remember he sat out all of last season because of a knee injury. He has just bowed out of saturdays event. This could very well be his last olympics and, again, five olympics, six medals for bode miller. I hope its not the end for him. Me, too. Congratulations. He wouldnt want to go out that way. Right, exactly. Then also coming up, american medalist david wise winning the gold in freestyle skiing halfpipe. His wife cheering him on with a huge cutout of their 2yearold daughter. That had to push him on. Thatll get it done. Here we come. T. J. Oshie and company, dont forget Jonathan Quick was big for us, too. Next big match for the mens hockey looms today. The u. S. Up against the Czech Republic. This is a team stacked with nhl talent and so this is it. It starts now. Its all for real now. Its going to be a good one. Team usa has never beat them in the olympics perhaps until now. Get it done. All right, everybody. First, finally a break from this brutal, brutal winter. Its warming up all over the country. Its the thaw, is it coming too fast creating dangerous, even deadly conditions as all that snow and ice melts fast . Ginger is tracking it all. Is the good news bad news scenario. It is. The issues are already popping up this morning. Very heavy rains from parts of West Virginia where lots of snow cover, Severe Weather in eastern tennessee and freezing rain in central pennsylvania. This all on top of 34 of our nation that is covered in snow. So anywhere above that line covered in snow and the next three days going to put heavy rain on top. Flooding is only one of the threats. This morning, more than a third of the nation is still blanketed in snow and ice. At least five major cities seeing record snowfall in 2014. But today, the melt is on. Minneapolis already soaring to 44 tuesday. The quick thaw causing roads to buckle creating huge backups along i35. And in chicago, the thermometer skyrocketed to 46 degrees. The warmest temperature in almost two months. Chunks of ice falling off buildings downtown. This major meltdown though could mean flooding and inevitably potholes. Those dangerous gaping holes formed when groundwater freezes and then expands rapidly. Way too many around here. Theyre all over the place. Reporter experts say, hitting a pothole can exert more force on a vehicle than a 35mileperhour car crash. Theyre responsible for nearly 5 billion of automobile insurance claims each year. So while some of these numbers may look exciting, high temperatures the next four days look at indianapolis, 60. Louisville, almost 70. Its a brief warmup. That means cold air is on the backside and that means weve got Severe Weather. Tonight in parts of eastern kansas. And then tomorrow is the big day where we see Severe Weather, including isolated tornados, damaging wind and, of course, the potential for large hail anywhere from detroit down to parts of louisiana. Tomorrow, big day, george. Never lets up. Okay, thanks very much. Well get the latest on the deadly violence in crew ukraine. You see the flames burning through the night as Government Forces crack down on protesters in kiev central square. More than two dozen killed. The u. S. Government pressuring ukraines president to stop the violence and abcs terry moran is on the scene right now. Good morning, terry. Reporter good morning, george. Its been a dark and ominous morning here in ukraine. As you see in the picture of that square, there was a pitched and bloody battle last night. The death toll now 26. Ten Police Officers killed and once again the smoke rising from this struggle. The whole city here feels locked down. Weve been through several military and Police Checkpoints as the government tries to maintain power over a nation and a situation that is spiraling out of control. Smoke rises this morning from a city on the brink. Police have moved in on protesters and this is now a battle for the heart of kiev. It is also a fight for the future of ukraine. The demonstrations began nearly three months ago after the president of this former soviet republic chose to build stronger ties with russia instead of the european union. The u. S. And europe have sought greater influence here since ukraine left the soviet union more than 20 years ago. Overnight, anger was claiming the streets here. With bricks and molotov cocktails, the protesters sent a message to their president. They want a future with europe and are against the new russian alignment. At least 25 people have been killed in the last 24 hours alone. Hundreds more are in the hospital. The president is blaming the protesters, the west is blaming him. This uprising pits america and europe on one side against a resurgent russia all want influence here. There is foreboding in this city today. People bracing for another long night of violence. The problem despite all the pressure on the government to negotiate is that blood will demand blood here. George . That situation continues to worsen. Okay, terry, thanks very much. It certainly does. Now to the big news from the slopes in sochi. Abcs amy robach tracking all the action at our gma headquarters right there at our olympics desk. And it has been quite a morning already, amy. Good morning to you. It has, robin. Good morning to you. Great news for ted ligety who came back from two very hard losses to reign supreme in the giant slalom capturing the gold. This morning american alpine great ted ligety winning gold in the giant slalom taking home the second olympic gold medal of his career. Teammate, bode miller, coming up short not making the podium after tweaking his knee in his first run sidelining him for the remainder of the sochi games. On the halfpipe, a soaring and spectacular feat. David wise has won gold. Reporter amidst heavy snow and slush, american favorite david wise, a 23yearold youth pastor who met his wife at church camp capturing gold in the brandnew event ski halfpipe even after this plan for olympics reporter on his second run he slammed hard on the deck but it wasnt enough to detract from this epic move. The right side double cork 1260 and he gets it reporter the right side double cork 1260 with skis crossed and the body crouched like a cannon ball. This highflying move consists of two big air flips and 3 1 2 complete rotations. Its 1260 degrees of headflipping spin. The illustration of greatness. Reporter armed with a cutout of their daughters face, his wife lexi cheering him on from the crowd. Team usa wins. Reporter and in just hours, team usas mens hockey team fresh off of two thrilling wins this weekend will take on the Czech Republic in a quarterfinal showdown. Incredible. Reporter on team usas womens bobsled team Lauryn Williams and elana meyers also chasing gold. Williams, an olympic sprint champion, rocketing the pair into an early first place lead tuesday and hoping to make history as the First American woman ever to medal in the summer and winter games. The second round of that event coming up in just hours. Now to the latest news as we just saw american david wise came down with the gold in the first ever mens ski halfpipe. We learn that he had a very special good luck charm with him as he made those incredible sky high moves, take a look at this Instagram Photo he posted. He had a heart shaped stone in his pocket given to him by his wife alexandra. Wise always brings his wife a heartshaped stone home from his events. And this time she smuggled in one to sochi for him. And it looks like it work. The womens u. S. Hockey team takes the ice tomorrow in the gold medal game versus the canadians. Its the fourth time in the last five olympics that these two rivals have faced off in the most important match of all. And guess what, canada has bested the u. S. In every olympic tournament since 1998. But this season the americans have the edge, taking 4 out of 7 games. U. S. Star Amanda Kessel says crazy to think that the gold medal game is tomorrow. A lifetime of work about to be poured into a 60minute game. Robin, lots of pressure but i think they can do it. We are looking forward to that tomorrow. Okay, amy, thank you. Going to get an update on the medal count. Boy, team usa adding to it. Look, ted ligety, that is history for ted but with all due respect to ted, lets get the wheaties box ready for david wise shall we or maybe a hallmark card. That was a remarkable thing. Taking a look then at our latest numbers on our sochi score board. The russians have now pulled back into the lead this morning. 22 medals overall, but you can see there, the u. S. , a strong lead in the gold with seven, thanks to ted ligetys remarkable performance this morning. After the u. S. Holding steady the dutch, norway and canada. Canada, guys, that usa canada gold medal match in womens hockey, buckle up for that. We have a lot of great, great action on the ice both the hockey and the figure skating still to come. I cannot wait. Good times. Lets talk more about it with julie foudy covering the olympics for us. Julie, this morning, all about ted ligety, so dominant. So dominant because he had come into this olympics as the reigning World Champion in three events. He had finished 12th, george, he had finished 14th and he finally got that gold medal. And i think its because the winter actually came back to the winter olympics. They talked about the snow being good again. Its cold. They got a lot of snow last night. And bode miller in perhaps his final Olympic Event not finishing on the medal podium, but he had said, i chose the wrong equipment. Yeah, he had been struggling before with injuries in the past. Although hes been to the five olympics so far. So you really think this is it for him . You know, i spoke to him yesterday and he said i feel good still. I feel like im on the top of my game. This may be my last olympics but i still feel like i can compete. He said i might have another year in me. You never know with bode. Thats the thing about bode miller, right, that we love. He still says he wants to compete. Yeah, and talk about the big hockey game today. Well, you got the mens quarterfinal against the Czech Republic and then you got as amy was saying you got the big game, canada united states, the womens gold medal match and this is one that is a bitter rivalry, canadians having won the last three olympic golds after the u. S. Won the first ever olympic gold for womens hockey. So this is going to be a big one on thursday night. The u. S. Thinks they can do it, though. Okay, julie foudy, thanks very much. Switching gears now, another air flight another one. A scary scene in the skies. Severe turbulence striking a Cathay Pacific flight from San Francisco to hong kong launching passengers from their seats. Abcs john muller is here and has the latest. Good morning, john. Good morning, robin. Its the second frightening incident this week. Nine people injured on this flight. The turbulence so violent passengers thrown around like rag dolls some hitting the overhead bins. One passenger called it pandemonium. It was a routine flight from San Francisco to hong kong on board this 747 carrying 321 passengers. Suddenly chaos struck. Suddenly there was a massive jolt. It was like the plane was almost dropping sideways. Reporter the Cathay Pacific flight was passing over japan when violent turbulence hit so severe some people hit the ceiling. Others were thrown out of their seats leaving two crew members and six passengers hospitalized. You can see in these pictures debris scattered everywhere. Passenger vincent sunder spoke to gma after he got off the horrifying flight. For a couple of minutes we didnt quite understand what was going on. The only thought was, this aircraft is going down. Reporter every year turbulence injures an average of 32 people on planes more than twothirds of those are flight crew. Earlier this week a united plane from denver to billings, montana, hit severe turbulence with one crew member still in serious condition. Felt like something came up from the bottom and hit the bottom of the plane. And then stuff and people were flying all over the place. Reporter that plane has been taken out of service until the airline can figure out what happened. When youre up at High Altitude and there is thunderstorm activity you always got to watch out for these billowing updrafts and if youre in clouds its hard to see them and sometimes its very hard to make them out on radar, as well. Now, the ntsb is collecting information on both these incidents to see if a broader investigation is necessary. This week, two grim reminders that its always best to keep your seat belt buckled at all times. Robin, george. You got that right. Thank you. To josh with the other developing stories. Another major weather story weve talked about out west. Now a dire new prediction this morning about the toll that that historic drought in the western half of this country could soon take on your familys budget. Analysts say that milk prices could rise by as much as 60 cents a gallon next month to a record high because of extreme conditions plaguing in particular californias agricultural industry. Meantime, traders say that coffee prices are also rising at the fastest pace in nearly a decade because of the drought plaguing south america. And president obamas drive to increase the minimum wage may have hit something of a speed bump, the Nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office says boosting the federal minimum wage to more than 10 an hour would result in the loss of some 500,000 lowwage jobs. The white house, though, fired back saying most experts disagree with that assessment. And some new questions this morning about a teenager who claims to be a satanic serial killer responsible for more than 20 murders. Investigators are now saying that her story cannot be verified. Heres abcs mara schiavocampo. Reporter miranda, did you really kill 22 people . Tuesday 19yearold Miranda Barbour met with local officials in sunbury, pennsylvania, but she did not provide any information about her shocking claims of being a serial killer. In an explosive jailhouse interview with the local newspaper last week, the newlywed and young mom confessed to killing, quote, less than 100 people in several states starting at just 13 when she joined a satanic cult saying, when i hit 22, i stopped counting. She looked at me dead square in the eyes and said this so matter of factually that if i were in Law Enforcement i would take it seriously. Reporter and they are. Authorities in california, north carolina, alaska and pennsylvania have already started looking for any evidence to verify those chilling claims. Our investigators have been in contact with Law Enforcement officers from other states and with the fbi. Reporter Miranda Barbara and her husband of just three weeks, 22yearold Elytte Barbour are being held without bail. Police say the couple murdered a pennsylvania man they lured on craigslist simply for fun. Barbours attorney filed paperwork asking she be spared the death penalty. Officials in alaska and pennsylvania note that so far in their states they have not been able to verify any of barbours claims. Also coming out, sharon stone like youve never seen her before. Shes talking about her struggle with growing older and how shes accepting ageing gracefully. Looks good. Looks pretty great there and coming up well begin with those first words from a juror in that loud music trial weve been covering. Michael dunn convicted of attempted murder but the jury deadlocked over the question of whether he murdered 17yearold jordan davis. Jordans parents are here to speak live with robin. First ryan owens brings us the jurors story. I believed he was guilty. Reporter but the first juror in the michael dunn case to speak out says not everyone in the jury room agreed. We pretty much knew after about two days with the whole selfdefense thing that we were going to be hung. Reporter in an exclusive interview with abc news, juror number 4 says three members of the jury believed the story of selfdefense dunn told from the stand. Hes showing me a gun and hes threatening me. Reporter in the end she says the split was 93 with most believing the 47yearold Software Developer should be held accountable for the death of 17yearold jordan davis. Life was taken. I mean, there is no longer a jordan davis and theres only one reason why that is. As to count one i will declare that mistried. Reporter that meant a mistrial on the murder count. The states attorney is vowing to retry dunn on that. The teens mourning mom also promising to keep up the fight. We will continue to stand, and we will continue to wait for justice for jordan. Reporter the jury did convict dunn on three counts of attempted murder for firing at the three other boys in the car that night. A year and a half ago outside a jacksonville gas station after an argument over loud music. Oh, my god. Somebody is shooting. We all agreed there was an imminent threat to these young men that were in the car. Reporter under florida law, dunn will spend the next 60 years behind bars. Nothing will bring back their son. Nothing. I am sorry, of course, i hope that they feel that we didnt do them a disservice. Reporter for Good Morning America, ryan owens, abc news, jacksonville, florida. And joining us now jordan davis mother and father. Lucia mcbath and ron davis along with their attorney john phillips. Good morning to you all. Good morning. Good morning. Good to have you here. I hope you know that you remain in the thoughts and prayers of many around the world. Thank you. You were riveted listening to the juror. I was watching you watching her and all the words that she said, especially at the end saying that they hope that they didnt do you a disservice. Your thoughts on what the juror said. We know that the jurors, when they walked in that room to deliberate, we know without a doubt that they were posed with a very delicate but a very profound decision that they had to make and we believe absolutely with all of our hearts that they did everything that they could to come to what they believe was the most just decision. We do now know that they were torn. But theyve done the best that they can with the tools that they had at that time and, of course, each one of them believes what they believe and so thats what we have to stand on. And she was very forthright in saying this juror this particular juror, she said that there were three who believed that it was selfdefense. There are many in the country who are wondering how someone could come to that conclusion. Well, in florida, you know, you have the stand your ground instruction, even though the defense, they dont actually file for stand your ground its in the instructions for selfdefense and that confuses juries. You know, these people are torn because of the jury instruction, i believe, and not the case. I believe the facts to everybody in the world show that this guy had indifference towards my son and just killed him and continued to shoot at the boys in the car and so being that they found him guilty on attempted murder three times to each count, they knew thats what he did but the jury instruction on the stand your ground part is very confusing, so i do think she did the best she could as a juror, but i think that those laws have to be rewritten and im going to be one thats going to continue to fight to have stand your ground laws rewritten. I know that you both will do that. I know youve been, mr. Phillips, very vocal on that. I want to ask you about the state attorney who has come under fire for the way the case was presented. Would you have done anything differently . Should anything have been done differently . It was a wellpresented case. They did a good job, but were in a situation where the young black boy doesnt get the benefit of the doubt. People can still lock their doors when they walk by and its okay. And the white businessman gets the benefit of the doubt. And so when you have a situation where the white businessman is the guy that does wrong and the africanamerican boy was amazingly raised by these wonderful parents, they needed to put in a little bit more character evidence and i realize its a dicey situation. And thats an excellent point because a lot of people were like, why arent they talking more about your son, so you tell us about your son. I think weve spent a lot of time letting the country know who jordan was. Jordan was just as people say the life of the party. He had a wonderful sense of humor. Just very intuitive, very wise and a very compassionate child, very sensitive. He was very much in tune to peoples feelings around you. He was very inclusive. Always wanted to include everyone. It didnt matter in the neighborhood if you had the skinny leg jean child or if you had the nerd or the jock, jordan wanted to include everyone. People are listening to you, lucia, and to you, ron, and what we saw saturday after the verdict. Your grace, your composure then and now and there are many that are saying we know that you are in immense pain. How are you both able to be as you are right now . Because you know you already have justice. People dont realize that the justice in the court system is not the ultimate justice, god gives you justice, you know and when people have indifference to life we know how people fight so hard to live. I know your story that you fought very hard to live and just think about how a person like michael dunn would be so callous as to just disregard the life of jordan davis. You know, just throw it away like it was nothing. You didnt do what i told you to do, im going to shoot you. You know, and so i tell people out there, god is the ultimate justice and so justice on earth is one justice but always look to god to be the ultimate justice. We were a lot of people were touched when you said you were praying for michael dunn and having your family to do that, as well. Mr. Phillips, you brought up white black. Its the big elephant in the room. You all have been very certain about not making this about race. Right. And the juror we heard from also she said a lot that you didnt see. She said that was not was not a factor in the deliberations. Do you believe that that was that they were colorblind . Again, it goes to the benefit of the doubt and youre not going to give the what if jordan had a gun still comes down and thats thats the issue. People still believe that about jordan because they didnt know jordan, they didnt see jordan like ive seen jordan and thats the difference and until we can level the Playing Field truly the scales of justice will be tipped. I will allow you both to have the final word here. You have said you said on saturday and weve heard you again and again, you want justice for your son. What is justice for jordan davis . Justice for jordan will be ultimately really when we change the laws, because that will be not just justice for jordan and justice for trayvon and for all the children at sandy hook and justice for aurora and justice for Virginia Tech and the navy yard, it will be justice for everyone that has suffered because of these laws and will continue to suffer so once the laws are changed, thats the ultimate justice for all. And for me im in Constant Contact with tracy martin, trayvons father and i text sabrina all the time and i just want to let them know that every time i get justice for jordan its going to be justice for trayvon for us and the ultimate justice for me i want michael dunn to be tried and found guilty of killing my son of letting him know that it was wrong to kill my unarmed 17yearold, you know, and all the other 17yearolds out there, they shouldnt have to fear the adults with the guns that are running around here shooting them at will. If you throw popcorn in someones face, they want to shoot you because you threw popcorn in their face. Thats what weve come to and we have to stop. We have to come together as a nation to have a real dialogue about that. Yes. Thank you, both, very, very much. Thank you so much. I appreciate it. Mr. Phillips, appreciate it. We continue to lift you up. Thank you very much. Lets get outside to ginger and the weather. Yeah, robin, everyone is so focused on the warmup but have to bring everybody back to reality. Next week we are seeing a cold blast. Well below average in parts of the Northern Plains and great lakes so theres that just to warn you. Warmer, of course, and wetter in the west which would be good news and then heres what happens today. A place like roanoke, virginia, last week had a foot and a half of snow. And today, 62 degrees so that warmup is moving in. Thats the big pictu good morning, im abc 7 news meteorologist mike nicco. Forget about the price tag all that coming up, plus we have a few more clues coming up to oscar sunday counting down a little bit away. Well get news first from josh. Well begin with the situation unfolding right now, in fact, not far from where the olympics are currently being held. It was the worst night of violence in months of antigovernment protests in the ukraine. The death toll now risen to 26 after the latest clash with hundreds more injured. These clashes between those protesters and Government Forces. The protesters are furious that the government sided with russia instead of europe in a recent trade deal, and they are now demanding that their president resign. Meanwhile, at those winter games in sochi this morning, something of a gold rush for team usa. Skier ted ligety took gold in the giant slalom now becoming just the second american ever to win two Alpine Skiing golds while fellow american bode miller finished 20th after suffering an injury after his first run, and it will be his last event, in fact, because of his injured knee. We do hope it is not the last of one of the Great American champions of our time. Meanwhile, two American Teams today entering the final twowomen bobsled runs in medal contention, and the u. S. Mens hockey team will face the Czech Republic, a team filled with nhl veterans itself and, yes, in the quarterfinals it is officially win or go home. And for the second time in as many days, there was panic in the skies, severe turbulence rocked another airline flight. Take a look here, a Cathay Pacific 747 safely on the ground. It had been flying though from San Francisco to hong kong. The plane shaking so violently, passengers flew from their seats, slammed into overhead bins. Nine people were injured in the process. This, of course, comes just one day after turbulence on a united flight from denver to billings, montana, sent people crashing into the ceiling, as well. And a pregame scare inside the basketball arena at indiana university. Look at that. A 50pound piece of metal fell from the ceiling and landed in the seats. Its fairly obvious what might have happened had that happened during a game. It is thought that the weight of the snow and ice on the roof of that arena is to blame. The game to be played today being postponed. And finally, what looked like a typical smashandgrab robbery, in fact, was anything but. Take a look at this. Two guys, we can safely call them idiots, slammed a car into this Convenience Store near houston because they were after one thing, a case of beer. Thats it . They literally took nothing else and off they rolled. No. If you recognize the car or one of the said idiots in this video, contact local authorities and, well, this is the time in which we live. Dont try that either at home or at your local Convenience Store. Okay, please. Either one. Good advice. A case of lite beer. Thank you, josh. Lets get the weather from ginger. You can catch Bette Midlers performance on oscar sunday, march 2nd. Hard to believe its the first time. Yeah, here on abc. It just keeps better and better as we find out more and more whats going to happen. They slowly reveal. Also in pop news today, weve been talking a lot about in this morning. Can i hear some music give me a break give me a break break me off a piece of that kit kat bar well, i will. Let me break you off a piece of that kit kat bar. A big break for kit kat named by Time Magazine as the most influential candy bar in history . Really. Most influential. Time magazine citing the fact that the crispy, chocolaty sticks were the first candy bar to be marketed around sharing, turning chocolate into a social experience. Sharing too. What are you talking about, time . You cant have any of this. I have enough for everybody. Others that raise the bar, toblerone in i think second or third place. Hersheys and, josh, your favorite, snickers ranked number five. Thats i value at five. Snickers to me here you go. With the almonds and and toblerone was on that list. Yes. For everybody flying internationally apparently. Your favorite candy bar, let us know yours. Please. Finally in pop news this morning, a lot of dogs like to eat ice, but this guy, oh, he really, really likes it. Watch what happens when his owner opens the freezer door. Oh. Its a vine video, so its only about six seconds, but it just gets me every time. Can we then he his the wall. Can we confirm that no adorable puppies were injured in the making of this . No, hes so happy. Hes got his ice. We have our kit kats and that, everybody, is pop news. They are delicious. I mean its fair to say. Really good. Well, enjoy. Enjoy. Crispy and wonderful. I finished mine. Want another bite . Uhhuh. We were supposed to share. Do you want me to read this next would you, please . We were talking about sharon stone, shes 55. Looking fantastic on the cover of shape magazine. Confessing that the process of growing older has not always gone as gracefully as she wished but looks terrific there. Abcs Abbie Boudreau has the story. Reporter known for her sultry sex appeal, actress sharon stone posing in a bikini on marchs cover of shape magazine. I think were in a time when this is going to be what do we do for the second half of our life. Reporter the basic instinct actress what are you going to do, charge me with smoking. Reporter confesses 6 she struggles with aging. I examined my face in the magnifying mirror and i looked in the mirror and cried and cried. When you hit 40 you think im going to be a grownup woman and going to get older. This is a part of life and the more we embrace it and embrace it in a healthful, welladjusted manner, the better were going to feel and actually the better were going to look. Reporter stone says she stropped Drinking Alcohol and eating artificial foods and started stretching more and exercising regularly. I think stretching is really key to keep yourself limber. I think you have to be able to pick up your own body weight. I think you should be able to bend your body completely and fully. I think you shouldnt let yourself get stiff or stuck. Reporter looking as stunning as ever, the mother of three boys and a practicing buddhist says shes not interested in being young forever, and while she sticks to a diet of mostly fish and cheese, she admits she does enjoy the occasional porterhouse steak. She realized that she was going to age and that she wanted to age well and be the best that she could be at any age. Whether its a matter of paying a little more attention to what were eating, how much rest were getting and a little more strategic in terms of the types of exercises were getting, i think the payoffs, the rewards can be enormous. Reporter for Good Morning America, Abbie Boudreau, abc news, los angeles. Looking good, miss stone. Uhhuh. Its working. She does. Were going to turn now to that reluctant father weve been telling you. A dad who wrote a piece for people. Com confessing that when his daughter was born, it wasnt exactly love at first sight. His failure to bond is more common than you might think and abcs Bianna Golodryga has the story. One, two. Get out reporter its supposed to be one of the happiest moments of your life. Epitomized in this scene from knocked up. I love you. I love you so much. Reporter but for some, that joy isnt so automatic. I was waiting for this tsunami of love and nothing happened. Reporter photographer and awe thor Philip Toledano confesses it wasnt all sugar, spice and everything nice when it came to the bit of his now 4yearold daughter loulou. I was very perplexed by my sort of lack of immediate connection. Reporter in an excerpt from his new book, the reluctant father on people. Com, toledano admits when loulou was born he had trouble developing an emotional bond. And i love the part in your book where you refer to loulou as an alien. Loulou was screaming her head off and i said to carla, god, doesnt that make you crazy. Dont you just want to pick her up and hold her. No, i just want to throw her out the window. Reporter toledano says he wasnt prepared for change in his marriage with wife carla of nine years. I was not number one anymore and i want to be number one. I think i got a little angry because it was a very special time for me. You know, guys dont get an opportunity to really talk about it. Why write the book . I hope that maybe it will make people more likely to be honest with each other. People make mistakes, and im flawed like everyone else. Carla, as a wife, i mean i can imagine theres moments where you thought your husband was being selfish. All men including my husband is capable of transformation. Reporter toledano says that transformation happened as loulou began to grow. What, aagh reporter and now he says hes come full circle. Shes such an odd, peculiar, lovely, funny thing, and im going to get all teary, and thats whats so lovely. Reporter for Good Morning America, Bianna Golodryga, abc news, new york. Looks like hes doing well. We asked everyone to vote in our gma flash poll. Should dads confess their feelings more often. Heres what you had to say. Not even close, a landslide, 91 said yes. Could we talk to the 9 we can talk about another day. Another time. A good friend here, andrew shue, husband of amy robach. You got to weigh in right now. You check in with the experts all the time. Is this really a lot more common than we think . I think that dads more and more are divulging their true feelings. If you think of the old days where men would, you know, smoke cigars and wait to find out what the sex was of their kid and, you know, now its kind of all were all together in the delivery room, and youre going to be a mom dad right off the bat, and i think its interesting that hes willing to kind of be honest and say, look, this alien has taken over my life, and i have no connection to, it but in a weird way i feel its also a little sad because this is the moment where he has decided, im no longer the selfish one. Im going to be a giver and that day that kid smiles, you become a giver. Its got to be difficult for any parent, father, mother, to admit that they havent quite gotten that bond. I mean, to come forward and to speak on behalf of those who dont. I know. Well, you guys are dads. Not much for dad to do the first several months. Yeah, its true. No, there is. There is. There is. Just to give a break, you know. Dont you think . I think dads, the more you step up at the beginning and actually going back to the traditional role of a dad being the protector of the family, if you think of taking this is a dependent in the biggest way. And if youre the one in the middle of the night that does the feedings, if youre the one that says, im going to take it for the stroll in the morning, i mean can you really be the protector of the mom and the child at the beginning, then you are really being a dad. What was it like for you . I did a lot of that, and i feel really glad that i did that middle of the night feedings and, you know, when the kid throws up, youre the one, and i feel like that really does create a different kind of connection, but i think im also kind of trying to go back to more of those traditional roles where you really feel like youre the one who is standing up for your wife and your kids and i think this guy actually its good that hes having the discussion because now were talking about him. A dialogue. We need to facilitate a little bonding right now. Yes, lets do that. Who do we have joining us right now . Ah. There she is. Wow you look like a million bucks. Ah. And guess what, andrew, you just told me you couldnt sleep and thats why you were up early this morning. You didnt tell me you were going to be on gma. Well, the facetime wasnt working. This is my only chance to see you. I feel like we should leave. Should we . Protector of the family. Speaking of that i want to say happy birthday. Its andrews birthday tomorrow and we missed our anniversary and now his birthday while ive been in russia, so happy birthday a day early. Thank you, baby. So cute. All right. Well, were going to now you have a news story. Shes been doing such great work for us over there, and meryl davis and Charlie White have made olympic history becoming the First American ice dancers ever to win gold. Amy got the chance to sit down with this incredibly talented twosome. Amy, what was that like . Lara, not only are they incredibly talented, theyre incredibly sweet. Meryl and charlie were all smiles today with good reason, of course, a third medal around their necks, and this time it was the color they were hoping for. Its been 17 years in the making, meryl davis and Charlie White setting World Records and capturing gold in sochi talking about their win at the p g home. How cool is it to wear the gold medal . You finally got it. Its pretty exciting. We wont be taking it off for a couple of days. And you have two more at home. So you now have one of every color. I cant wait to get home and wear them all at the same time. Reporter the athletes are a power couple on the ice but off it just friends. A lot of people are like how are they not together . How do you describe your relationship . Its difficult. I think its so unique. Its so different from anything that most people are used to. You know, we did grow up together. We started at 8 and 9, and weve been such a big part of each others lives. I realized early on that once i had started skating with charlie, i no longer wanted to be out there by myself. Reporter you personify love when youre on the ice. There is a love but its a plutonic love, but it looks like romantic love on the ice. We work really hard. Reporter is it ever awkward . I think in the beginning, especially when we were younger. Charlie is nodding his head. When you were 8 and 9 years old first learning to ice dance together, did you envision this . No. Honestly we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. You know, we just love skating around the rink, and i think that love translated itself into, you know, an amazing work ethic. Reporter and now into worldwide fame. You all have been compared to disney characters. Someone did tell me that. Amazing. I love it. Youre either belle. I saw jasmine this morning but i think belle. Ill take either one. Thats great. When you set out to russia, did you say to yourselves, we are going to win gold . Were going to shoot for gold, and i think that we really set ourselves up incredibly well to fight for it, focusing on the color of the medal, focusing on, you know, the placement after we were done skating wasnt really going to help us get there. I think we really had the right mindset focusing on the skating. You see how close they are now, but when meryl and charlie first started skating together, apparently meryl was too shy to even look at him, so their coaches had to put a sticker on charlies forehead so that meryl would have a place to look and not feel awkward, josh. I mean theyre so adorable. Were so happy for them. We are. And you know what, thanks for getting it done, meryl and charlie and amy, as well. Time now, though to meet our guest olympian du jour today. Entertainment weekly calls her the Jennifer Lawrence of the slopes. Wow. It can only mean good things. Jamie anderson congrats. Gold medalist for snowboarding slopestyle. So its the great question im sure that you wondered about for years. What was it like when you saw one next to your name . It was an unbelievable feeling. Its almost indescribable. Just the whole journey to get to the olympics and to have that moment, amazing. And to be the first time that this event has been youre a part of history. Youre part of history. Thats got to factor in. Its huge, yeah, just being an olympian alone is an honor but to be able to go there and win gold and have my family and friends there and its so special. Ill pick out a fish bowel question here. Lets see what it says. Have you had an opportunity to try any authentic russian cuisine and, if so, what was it and how did you like it . Yes, i was. I definitely embraced the culture and i had borscht, which is their traditional soup. Good stuff. Yeah, it was good. I loved reading your history. Started snowboarding at 9, six years later at 15 youre the youngest plan or woman to medal at the x games. How do you unreal. Where do you go from here . Shes also with us talking about her new actionpacked thriller with Kevin Costner. So lots to get to in this half hour but we begin with the olympic morning mega meme. Announcer the morning mega meme. We repeat it for emphasis sake. Sochi selfies trending certainly much weve seen some go viral. Weve seen what johnny quinn does to all manner of infrastructure go viral. As well. Take a look at this. That right there, Steve Holcomb and steve langton. The great bobsled twoman team who actually medaled in the twoman bobsled for the first time in 62 years, Steve Holcomb just tremendous. They say is their best sochi selfie but take a look. One better. Thats hannah teter, snowboarder for the u. S. Selfieing in the middle of the olympic halfpipe during a practice run, but if thats your silver medalist this, is gold. Maybe not at that particular moment. Thank you, marvin. Thousand to laser peels. One of the most popular and powerful antiaging procedures but theyve meant a pricey visit to the dermatologist until now so we asked gma contributor becky worley to try out a couple of new athome laser treatments to see how they work like you really need that at all, becky. Good morning to you. Good morning, robin. How do i get these assignments . I mean, yes, im north of 40 and the crows feet are creeping in but should a laser at my face . Okay. How do they do it . Genetics . Probably. Botox . Maybe. Laser peels. Stars in general get a lot of treatments done. Reporter determine toll is charge thousands of dollars for Fractional Laser treatments that slightly damage the subdermal layers of the skin to heal those areas, the body produces collagen and collagen is what makes skin look supple and firm, no wrinkles so now this, at home laser devices. They cost less than 500 bucks. The fda cleared devices for at home antiaging laser treatments use fairly Similar Technology as what we use in our office. Reporter but the intensity is turned down so the company says when used as directed you shouldnt be able to burn yourself. One of the newest products is the tria agedefying laser. The tria age defying laser is clinically proven to treat multiple signs of aging. Okay, here goes. Ooh. It feels like hot rubber bands stinging my face. Its redder. Definitely than this side. And its stinging a little bit but not excruciating. The device beeps when its time to move on to another area of the face. Now, besides the 500 bucks you invest, you also have to invest serious time. When i was using it i definitely felt that pri ichlpr sensation. There are devices that are cheaper and take less time. Like the facefx from zillion. 200 and this he say it takes three times a week for a month. No stinging. No little pinpricks. Dont know if its doing anything. You wont get the same results as you would for a 1,000 intense laser treatment in a doctors office. But you can get results similar to those types of more mild in office treatments. Reporter so for those who are seeking youngerlooking skin and the flexibility of dermatology type treatments at home, these are convenient. Ive been using the tria agedefying laser for about two weeks now and its just too soon to tell if its really working. But i do think something is happening. Mostly because it hurts. My face stings for like 15 or 20 minutes after each treatment. That said it doesnt freak me out the way it did when i first used it. Its not like i feel my skin is damaged from it. That said, well then i think im just going to make peace with my crows feet. They mean i laugh and smile a lot, right . Yeah, means youre from hawaii originally and have a lot to be happy for and when you get north of 50 then well talk, okay . North of 40, why, i ought to. Hey, becky, thanks for taking one for the team as always. Hope to see you soon. Okay. Final check of the weather now. Lets kick it back outside to ginger. Robin, you and becky looking beautiful. So are our birthday girls, a couple gals from florida from the ft. Lauderdale area and dealing with, well, not chill. Not that cold, is it, girls . No, not bad. All right, right to our camera from wfaa in dallas. This ive got fog and visibility issues, the camera moving around a little bit. All that warm air, february thaw moving on up. Look at some of the numbers coming out like philadelphia close to 60 by the time we reach the end of the week and look at cincinnati, 66 before that big change comes and the coal replaces it. Some Severe Weather right there in the middle of the nation western missouri also eastern kansas, thats late tonight into early tomorrow. Thats t good morning, im abc 7 news meteorologist mike nicco. Breezy, sunny and dryer this afternoon with temperatures in the upper 50s along the coast, low to mid60s elsewhere. Accuweather sevenday forecast, warmer friday, saturday and sunday. All that weather brought to you by ally bank. Lara. All right, ginger, thank you so much. Joining me now is Hailee Steinfeld who is just 13 when she starred with jeff bridges in true grit. That film earned her an oscar nomination and now shes starring in 3 days to kill with Kevin Costner trying to get out of the spy game to reconnect with his estranged daughter. Take a look. Are you okay . No, im not okay. Look at this. This looks terrible. Your hair . No, no, yes, yes, my hair. I look like a frickin chia pet. It looks awesome. And were so thrilled to have hailee with us this morning. Great to see you. You too. The name implies thriller yet theres a lot of sweetness and also a little comedy in here, as well. Theres a little bit of everything. Thats what i really love about it so much. It is this Action Thriller with this emotional center. And it was exciting sort of being a part of a film that while watching it i had no idea i was a part of. Its just its so incredible visually and it does, it has a lot of heart. Kevin costner as dad. Yes. How is that experience. So cool. Really, really very cool. I was i have to say i was a little scared and intimidated at first and we were able to sort of take the approach as our characters do in the beginning of the movie where they dont know each other well and towards the end, they really sort of bond and rekindle their relationship and that was when kevin and i could sort of get to know each other. Its interesting to hear you say you get sort of starstruck. How do you personally shake it off, though, when you get to meeting these just seasoned greats. You know, its so funny, a lot of people really say, its kind of a beautiful thing. Nerves can be great. You can use them and i i guess i end up using them, just however youre supposed to but i always forget that youre sort of you can embrace them and use it, so but, no, i definitely do get starstruck and nervous a lot. Im glad because i want to get into that. A lot of facebook questions for you starting with the fact that you have worked with jeff bridges, matt damon, meryl streep, Harrison Ford so we have a question from victor who posted this on facebook. What its like to have worked with these type of major league actors. Oh, my gosh, its honestly its just so amazing. Ive been so honored and so blessed to have been given the opportunity to work with such incredible and talented people. And i find that something that they each have in common is that at the end of the day, they want nothing more but to create a beautiful piece of work and thats what means the most to them and i think for me to be constantly reminded of that is really important and i share i think i share that with them . Really quick, who is the silliest of the heavies . Oh, no. First name that comes to mind is josh brolin. Good answer. The movie is so beautifully shot, shot in paris. It keeps your heart going. It does. It is called 3 days to kill and opens nationwide on friday. Thanks for being with us. Thanks so much. Coming up, the star of the new movie son of god is here with us, live. Oh, yeah, we have a lot to be happy at gma. Because im happy hop along because were counting down to oscar sunday like only gma can. Good morning, america. Oh, my. So go on, put some happy in your morning with abcs good morning, america. The history channels epic series the bible topped the charts and the same production star and same star Diogo Morgado are back with the feature film son of god, a brandnew look at the life of jesus. Take a look. This man knows nothing. His healing is the work of demons. It has begun. He undermines our faith. Peter, turn the other cheek. And Diogo Morgado joins us now, welcome to gma. Thank you, good morning, george. I cant even imagine what its like to prepare to portray jesus. Oh, its really overwhelming. Actually i mean i started out by as a role so i researched a lot and then at one point i just stopped and i realized there was actually one story, i went to jerusalem, you know, and i was next to the crying wall and i saw this father and a young kid and they were praying and i stood like for two hours there and then i stopped and i realized that by the time i was leaving, they were still praying and i realized that, you know, whatever i was about to do would be connecting forever with that kid more than his father, so now were living in a visual world now and kids learn a lot by seeing things rather than reading it so i understood the responsibility. And you said from the start you wanted to create a more human and approachable jesus. More reachable, yeah, definitely. You know how do you do that. I you know, i grew up as a christian and i always think of jesus as someone right next to us and, you know, really close, so i never actually saw that on screen in a way that i could be, you know, identified so i actually try to go that way and try to build this relationship but of oneonone with the viewer. Its such a tricky thing, though. Others have gone before you. Willem dafoe in the temptation of christ. Mel gibson temptation of christ and draws such hot fe feelings out in people. Are you prepared for that. I wasnt. Actually can you go through that without you have to separate a little bit. You have to concentrate on what youre about to do. Obviously now i can see with the feedback and the session of the bible and now with son of god, we can see that theres a lot of people being touched by this story and the thing is, this is the last time that the whole life of jesus was on screen was 50 years ago. Hard to believe. The greatest story ever told so theres a lot of people out there and a lot of kids especially. They dont know exactly who jesus was, so this is actually a tool that can teach those kids about why what jesus was and who he was and why the bible was the most important book. You got a lot of range. You also played a doctor in revenge. Its all in the healing field. All in the healing field. Well, this movie is really going to be something. Im sure its going to touch a lot of people. Thank you for coming in today. Song son hits theaters february 28th and coming up, time for our thawdown throw much down.
