It is falling in the southeast and the ice is what we are most concerned about. Augusta, georgia, almost a quarter inch of ice already. In columbia youll end up with close to an inch. Hard to imagine what that does, but think about that. An inch standing on top of an object and on the bottom of it too will weigh down power lines. Were going to go out there on the highways and make sure all of our citizens are okay. Reporter nearly 500 soldiers and 125 vehicles joining a growing army of salt trucks and snowplows trying to stay ahead of what forecasters expect to be a devastating ice storm. The states response to 2 inches snow two weeks ago was laughable, with gridlock that lasted all night. This time, georgias governor came out early telling families to stay off the roads. This is one of mother natures worst kinds of storms that can be inflicted on the south. Reporter this family wasnt having it. Getting enough gas to head out of state. We are leaving. Were not taking any chances. Reporter the icy roads can turn deadly fast. In dallas, texas, a firefighter died when a sliding car pushed him off an overpass while trying to help this driver who hit the ice moments before. Watch this suv spin out smashing into the guardrail and then another driver. The driver of this pickup nearly lost it, too, but came to a stop before hitting anyone. The big concern this morning now, power outages. Already this morning, were hear of 20,000 people in georgia alone waking up in the dark this morning because they lost power. Those power lines snapping because of the cold. We know that there are small armies of utility crews on both ends of the city waiting to come in and repair those lines. Ginger . To a story rocking the rural town of lebanon, tennessee. A mail bomb going off in the hands of a homeowner leaving a devastating scene behind. Authorities fear this may be only the beginning. The shattered windows of this lovely home hint of the devastation inside from a blast that could be heard from miles away. I heard a big boom. Thought someone might have actually backed into the building next to my office. Reporter Authorities Say 74yearold retired lawyer don setzer was killed after a powerful package bomb exploded in his home. His wife marion was critically wounded in the attack and this morning is clinging to her life at the Vanderbilt University medical center. Overnight Police Continue to sift through the rubble looking for evidence and trying to find parts of the bomb and the package it came in. Police have no motive in the attack and are offering an 8,000 reward for any leads. We completely rely on the public assistance so that we can follow up on any lead. Reporter the bombing happened about 31 miles outside of nashville in tiny lebanon, tennessee. A place where this kind of savage attack just doesnt happen. Theyre just the perfect neighbor and we felt like this was a place that nothing would ever happen. Reporter this Morning Police are warning residents in the area to be careful of unexpected packages. Well begin with a major study out this morning sure to ignite a new debate over mammograms. Researchers in canada studied some 90,000 women for two decades and found that women ages 40 to 59 who got a regular mammogram lived no longer than those who did not get the screening. And they found more than 20 of the cancers uncovered by a mammogram pose no health risk. Now, the American Cancer Society is expected to revise screening guidelines later this year, but as always, talk to your own doctor about your risks before making any changes as we well know here at Good Morning America. And a developing story from the mountains of Eastern Oregon this morning. Two skiers have been killed in yet another avalanche. Two others who were injured were stranded on the mountain overnight because of poor visibility. 12 people have died in avalanches thus far this season. Thousands of homes are already underwater and now much of england is bracing for a storm that could bring a months worth of rain in just two days. In this half hour well start with the dramatic testimony in the socalled loud music trial. Michael dunn is charged with killing an unarmed teenager and took the stand in his own defense. Abcs ryan owens has the story. Lyme looking out the window and i said youre not going to kill me, you son of a [ bleep ] and i shot. He dramatically reenacted how he shot jordan davis. He opened the door then he looked at me and said youre dead, [ bleep ]. At that point what did you believe was about to happen to you . I thought i was going to be killed. Reporter even though police say the teen didnt have a gun dunn stuck to his story that davis was a foulmouthed guntoting teen who threatened him after davis refused to turn down his rap music. My rear view mirror was shaking, my eardrums were vibrating. And this was ridiculously loud music. Reporter davis parents could do nothing but listen but the prosecution could and they pounced. Mr. Dunn, the truth is you never told the love of your love that those boys had a gun. You werent there. Reporter prosecutors say dunn fired ten times at an suv with four teens inside. Oh, my god. Somebody is shooting. Reporter killing davis in november of 2012 because he felt the teen disrespected him. Jordan davis was never a threat to you, was he, mr. Dunn . Absolutely he was. Reporter prosecutor john guy also hit dunn hard for not calling police to report the shooting. Instead, he and his fiancee returned to this hotel and ordered a pizza. You are familiar with 911, are you not . Yes, i am. When you were at the hotel you didnt call 911. I didnt call the police until the following morning. You called the pizza man. Reporter dunn has pleaded not guilty and told the jury this is a clear case of selfdefense, but prosecutors hope the jury will convict the Software Developer of first degree murder. The jury should begin deliberating later today with Michael Dunns own words fresh in their mind. I was in fear for my life. Reporter for Good Morning America, ryan owens, abc news, jacksonville, florida. Okay, time to bring in our legal team. Abcs dan abrams along with nancy grace, the host of nancy grace on hln. How did he do . He had to testify because hes claiming selfdefense and the only testimony really can come from him. He was okay. There are real problems with some of the inconsistencies in his account. I thought that his demeanor was a little problematic. At times he almost smiled. But he also sounded almost legalistic at times as if he were reciting the statute as to what selfdefense would entail. So there were a number of problems, but, look, he laid out the basics for his selfdefense claim. Nancy, a lot of people noticed he kind of choked up when he was talking about his dog but not about the killing. Yes, i noticed that too. He was extremely smug and he even went so far as to say, i dont know why the prosecution didnt bring on my Police Interrogation tapes. Well, be careful what you ask for. For you will surely get it because after the state basically forced him to take the stand by not introducing those tapes thereby his story never got in front of the jury, he had to take the stand as dan pointed out. Of course, you always have the right to remain silent under the fifth amendment but then on rebuttal, the state brings on those police tapes to show a major, major inconsistency. Dunn said to police, that jordan davis, the boy, the unarmed boy got out of his car and said, this shit is going down now and was about to shoot michael dunn but he never said that at any other time. Never told his fiancee who he sent in to get more wine, more booze. She comes back in the car. He never said, hey, that guy pulled a shotgun on me. He never even mentioned that he saw a gun. Piece of testimony the crucial question in this case, right, the legal question is, was his belief reasonable that he was in danger . For his belief to be reasonable, you have to believe that there was a gun in that car and to believe there was a gun in that car, you have to believe him. Dunn, who just testified. It is the crucial question in this case and if these jurors dont believe he had a gun on crossexamination he said he could have imagined the whole thing, please, he told police, yeah, i could have imagined i saw the gun and we find out hes half deaf so now hes trying to tell the jury he is in his car with the windows rolled up and he hears jordan davis in another car say i am going to shoot you. His best chance is for a lesser conviction. Charged with first degree murder. An aggressive charge in connection with this case. I think his lawyer would be very pleased if theres an instruction on manslaughter and gets a lower conviction on Something Like manslaughter. Roy black was saying something similar, nancy. You agree . I think that it would be a huge celebration if they get a lesser included defense like manslaughter but im telling you this, he sat there and looked at the photos of this dead teen and never even his lip never even tremb trembled. When he talked about his dog he had to get his hander chief. If you take his account seriously, there is he an argument to that. His claim is that this guy is saying, im going to kill you, hes getting out of the car to try to kill him. Thats just like me saying im afraid youre going to shoot me through the camera. Reporter but behind the doors of her mansion, Yolanda Foster has been in a very real fight for her life. A battle against lyme disease that played out on bravos show the real housewives of Beverly Hills. Lyme disease has really severely attacked my brain. Reporter built all of this. With the reality tv cameras off she invited us in opening up her home. What is all of this . Like all the pills i take. This is one day of, you know, just my vitamins. Reporter to reveal her struggle. Its such a lonely disease and its so siement. Reporter lyme disease can carried by ticks after a bite it can enter the bloodstream attacking the skin joints and nervous system. Yolanda is not exactly sure how or when she contracted it. It started with memory loss and difficulty focusing. And i couldnt read or write or watch tv or do anything. Reporter on your worst day, what did it feel like . Id get emotional just thinking about it. You know. Just you know, how am i ever going to get out of this. Reporter the recovery has been painful from having a port implanted to get antibiotics into her bloodstream quickly to visits with doctors around the world. Absolutely can and the problem, you guys, is that the symptoms are so vague they overlap with a lot of other what about the bullseye . That occurs in about 70 or 80 of people who get bitten by this deer tick, a bacterial infection but the remaining 20 to 30 never get that hallmark bullseye rash or these vague simms like fatigue, chill, body ache, fever, headache. I mean you think we all exactly and thats the problem is that it can be undetected, misdiagnosed and progress from days to weeks to months to years. How debilitating can this be . It can be incredibly debilitating. This can affect basically every major organ system in the body. Incredible to think so many bad things can come from such a small deer tick but can hit the joint, the heart, the Central Nervous system and even disturb mood so its a big problem. Again, these deer ticks tend to be concentrated in the northeast in minnesota in wisconsin, so if youre going to be traveling to those areas your awareness needs to be up.
