Hey, everyone, its time to get out of town, and what better way than heading down to the monterey bay . Lets go. All i need are some tunes to make this trip complete. There are so many options. Theres something for every mood. Were here with princess monterey whale watching. And we are talking to maren. She is a marine biologist. Tell us about what you do here. Oh, man. So, what i do is a lot of fun. I love my job. We go out, and we take people that are visiting monterey, whether it be locals, kids, people of all ages. We take them out whale watching, and we basically tell them a little bit about all of the wildlife in the area, whether it be otters, seals, sea lions, and then all the way up to the big blue whales, the biggest animals you can imagine out there. So its definitely a lot of fun. You named some of the wildlife that you will see out there. Get into a little more specifics about these different creatures that well see out there. You know, so, we could see everything from the tiniest animals, like the tiniest birds. We can go all the way up to otters, seals, sea lions, but finally the big goal of the trip is to check out the whales out there. And lately weve been actually having a lot of really cool activity. The common dolphins have been showing up pretty regularly for the last seven months. Weve been seeing gray whales, 52which migrate up and down our coast every year. And the weirdo factor has been the humpback whales. They should have been long gone. A small group of them just never left. There was so much food for them here in the canyon that theyve just been gorging themselves all winter long, and weve been getting a lot of early comers coming in, so its been a lot of fun. Were one of the rare places in the world thats able to have whale watching all throughout the year, and its because of the different seasonality between your different species of whales. So, for example, well get our summer feeders that come in over the summertime. They gorge, gorge, pig out in the canyon, the deep monterey submarine canyon. You say they it gets a little tricky or a little dicey. They gorge. Get a for the common person who has never been out here, what does that mean exactly . So, depending on what animal youre talking about so, take, for example, humpback whales. They come in. Theyre stirring everything up. You know, we usually like to say monterey bay is like this soup bowl for all of these animals. I like to call it, like, the buffet table. They can kind of feed on a variety of things. Mostly, they like smaller schooling fish. Theyve been feeding on anchovies for the past two years. But they can feed alongside with the blue whales on krill, which is basically a small kind of like a shrimpscampi little guy in the water. Theyll feed on two, two and a half tons of it per day. And what theyre gonna do and theyll actually work together, sometimes even with sea lions i call them feeding frenzies. Well find these feeding frenzies of hundreds of sea lions working together with sometimes upwards of, like, 20 humpback whales. What theyre doing is kind of like circling around their food. Theyre corralling it into a nice, tight bait ball, and theyre all kind of taking turns feeding on that. Now, the gray whales theyre not feeding here. So, they only feed up in alaska. Theyre pretty much just passing through the area. Theyre trying to migrate down to mexico, turn around, and come back. They got no time to stop and eat here. With the gray whales theyre actually bottom feeders, so theyre gonna kind of dive down to the bottom. Theyre gonna kind of rustle through the benthic seafloor for little critters, bugs, and all of that, amphipods, copepods, tube worms. And then youve got blue whales. Now, we do see blue whales here not often. We dont have them for a whole heck of a long time. Those guys are almost exclusive krill eaters, which is funny cause blue whales biggest animals ever to have roamed the planet, 100footlong, 200ton monsters, and theyre feeding on krill, which are like that big. But really its because of how much energy they have, how much nutrients they have, and theyre feeding on about eight tons of it per day. So, theyre kind of like filterfeeding for packets of energy in the water. And if theyre feeding on eight tons of it, thats how they grow to be these massive, largerthanlife animals. Its awesome. Monterey bay is home to the thirdlargest submarine canyon in the whole world. Its actually about a mile or so offshore of moss landing. And it bisects our bay. So, it cuts out about 100 or 200 miles or so west. At its deepest point, its over two miles. Its bigger than the grand canyon. So, you know, i always like to envision this huge, underwater, submarine grand canyon that splits our bay in half. It offers colder, deeper water closer to shore. And what it does is it harbors a lot of cold, nutrientrich waters that upwells with the warmer water at the surface. So, it cycles, so you get a lot of different food supply for a lot of other marine animals seals, sea lions. It attracts a variety of birds all throughout the year and then, of course, some of our larger cetaceans that we see almost every day out here. Maren, tell me why you do what you do. You know, i think i just love this area so much. Its such a beautiful area, and with all of the diverse Marine Wildlife that we have, i just love being able to share that with people. I love being able to teach kids all the neat things about the ocean, all of these neat animals that you might not always see from the shore. And i think thats my favorite thing, is getting people really excited about coming out on the water, coming out and seeing the different animals that we basically share our backyard with. And this is something that, you know, families and kids and adults of every age can do, right . Yep. Everyones a kid at heart, so everyones gonna have fun on our trips. Well, Makeup ArtistChristina Flach is gonna show us how to get it done because i know ive made the mistake of thinking nighttime means to pile on the makeup, but thats not the war paint. No, its not war paint. Its just taking it up a couple notches to just make it a little bit more dramatic, and theres a few simple, easy steps that we can do. Okay, so, we are going to take her from day to night to go out on the town. So, what were gonna do is im gonna put a dark liner very close into her lashes. cause she had already a little bit of it on. She had a very soft brown on, but im gonna take it to a darker, chocolaty brown. I dont want to do black cause i think thats too harsh. With her blond hair and fair skin, i think its just not as attractive as this will be. I am just using a dark brown chocolate eye shadow, and its gonna be im gonna try and do a very thin line. And anytime, if you make a mistake, cause we all do, you can always blend it. And now im gonna do a little bit darker down here on the bottom. And then were gonna add a little more mascara. And then in the crease, we are going to put a little splash of color, just for fun. So, im gonna put a little bit of pewter gray here in the crease, and im gonna blend it. Im gonna put it on this side, as well, and were gonna just blend it in there and give it a little bit of pizzazz. Here we go on the other side. And im gonna keep this area here lighter because if we do it too dark on the whole lid, its just gonna make the lid look heavy. We are gonna add a little mascara to make it look a little bit more dramatic. A little bit more dramatic, a little heavier, a little bit more spectacular. Now, what color is that . And thats a gloss, too, right . Im doing a gloss, and, actually, a gloss is really a great product because it gives the illusion that your lips are fuller because theyre shiny. And all of us want fuller lips without having to go get them filled up. So, this is a nice way of doing it. This is called hey lover. Now were gonna just do a little bit of contouring here. So, again, im gonna just put a little bit of brown here, a little bronzer on both sides underneath the cheekbone, under here, under the jawline. Were gonna add a little blush, and were gonna brush it upwards and blend them together. All right, so, run us through exactly what you did and how quick and easy it is to go from day to night, christina. Okay, so, what i did was, i put a little bit of concealer under here to lighten up underneath the eye. I added liner on the top and the bottom, a little heavier on the mascara. I put a little pewter in the crease. We did a little contouring on the cheeks. We added a nice, little splash of red to her lips, and we filled in her brows very important because that, again, gives another look of sophistication and a more polished look that you want at night, that you really dont need in the day. Well, i think you always do, but definitely at night you want a more polished look. So, overall, when youre taking your look from day to night, what would you say is the most important thing to remember . Go for the color at night. Why not, you know . Were all pretty toned down in the day, so lets do a little red. Its really, really its a sexy, fun look. All these little tips that ive given today are, maximum, five minutes. And i think everyone has five minutes to make themselves look and feel the best they can. You look gorgeous. Beauty. You ready for your big night out . I am. [ laughs ] um, i would suggest probably around 200 to 250. Oh, really . Oh, okay. Is that more than you were expecting . Yeah. Yes . Definitely. And they would sell really fast. It really depends what youre comfortable with. A lot of people like to see how you style the item, so putting them on and having someone take a quick picture of you or just put them up on display. If its a dress or something, i would suggest putting it on simply because they can see what jewelry you wore, what jacket you can possibly wear with a dress and also how it fits. Theres four different shots you can take within a listing. Good. So now ive got three photos. Perfect. And now youre gonna want to to say what youre selling, so, tory burch riding boots. Tory burch riding boots. Okay. Hit done. Done. And then describe the item. So, um, like new, or, great condition. New riding boots. Riding boots. Do i have to say black, or is that pretty obviously . You can say black. I think, from a description perspective, be as detailed as possible. Listing price. So, you can list it for 250 and see it will automatically tell you how much you get back. So, if you fill in 250, your earnings when sold will be 200. The great thing about poshmark is we take 20 of every sale. So, you list it at whatever price you want. You always know what youre gonna get back if you return it, and that 20 covers customer service, shipping, creditcard fees, et cetera. So you dont have to worry about all the nittygritty things in between. What you want to do is definitely put your products in. So, i am going to be using the pillow proof. A little goes a long way. Thats the biggest key for all products redken a little goes a long way. You do not want to sit here and oversaturate. Oversaturation is gonna cause very oily or very just boggeddown hair. So then im just gonna do a little bit of the lotion. This is, like, your smoother prior to your blowdry. So, this is our guts, and this is going to be your volumizer. Some people like to lift the hair and spray it in. Uhhuh. Some people like to spray it in their hand, even distributed between, and then put it in. So it really just depends on what you would like to do. Now, what happens if you put too much is there anything you can do to correct if you put too much product . I always tell people, if you do a little too much, you can take, like, a water bottle and just spray to kind of dilute it out. Okay. And then take your towel and kind of blot your hair. So, a little trick that a lot of people do not know right after they put the product in, theyre straight with the blowdryer. Uhhuh. They already pin it up, and theyre trying to blowdry. Take a lot of the moisture out. So, its gonna be a little bit of a rough blowdry. So, youre just gonna take the blowdryer and literally you can flip your head over. Mmhmm. And just shake a lot of this moisture out because whats gonna happen is its gonna help you, from already being so tired by the time you get to the front, youre gonna be really good to go with that. And whats the biggest mistake people make when theyre blowing out at home . Grabbing a bunch of hair and trying to shove it all on the brush and just going at it. And im like, no, no, take your time. Section by section . Section by section. Hot tip you want to keep the nozzle on the blowdryer. This is gonna help you from not frizzing. Aah and i know you saw me when i was doing this. Uhhuh. And you kind of so, you start this way, but turn. Okay. So, when you turn, you can put the heat here for a little bit and then do a cool shot, let it cool for a minute. When youre coming out of it, spin. Aah. So its and the release is just as important. Yes. So, when you do that, it automatically puts a form, so when you keep going to the next, its holding it. Thats setting it. So, lets say you just want a nice, little, sleek, sophisticated look. Uhhuh. You can keep it like this. Or we can do a little bit of a tease. So, quick tease trick. A lot of people think you have to do the oldschool, 1950sto70s, little sectionbysection roller set. Uhhuh. No. What i always tell people is to do, like, a triangle in the back. So, line here and then start at your peak. Okay. So, when you do that, again, it doesnt have to be that perfect parting cause you want it to be natural. So, just nicely comb. Overelevate just a little bit. And you could take any comb. You can use a brush. It doesnt matter whats more comfortable for you. About midway. Mmhmm. Go down again, just nice and subtle. Heres the trick to a tease that a lot of people dont do. They think they tease it, and then they pull it back, right . Take your hair and split it. Oh. What does that do . This is helping divide so youre not having such a harsh, matted look right in here. I see. So, you see how it kind of branches off a little bit . Right. So, when you do that and you comb. So the volume moves around your hair . Exactly. Aha. It gives it movement. So, another little trick to tell you uhhuh. You ever get to where you see a picture or you took a selfie and youre like, oh, my gosh, i can see my scalp . Uhhuh. So, you can take a rattail comb, a pen, a makeup any kind of tip and zigzag into your part. Oh. So, whats thats gonna do, you automatically its not dramatic.
