To you. We begin with a brief ceasefire happening right now in the middle east. The air strikes have stopped for the time being to allow for humanitarian aid into gaza. This follows quite an emotional day yesterday. Cameras captured Young Palestinian boys running away from shelling on a gaza beach. Moments later an israeli air strike rocked the entire area. Abcs Alex Marquardt was just 100 yards away. Four boys ages 9 to 11 were killed. The Israeli Military later said it launched the strike aimed at hamas militants and called the boys death a tragic outcome. Reporter mortars were fired from here in gaza over the border in israel. Israeli Defense Forces have not responded in kind. Will the truce open the door for a more permanent ceasefire . Were live with the very latest. Hamish . This morning i can tell you the ceasefire is holding so far. It went into force at 10 00 a. M. Local type. Will last until 3 00 p. M. This afternoon. Clearly the pressure is on hamas not to fire any rockets during that period. Israel is saying if rockets are fired it will response forcefully. Israel said it attacked and killed a number of hamas militants using underground tunnels to infiltrate israel. Really today the focus is on the afterath of the killing of the four boys on the beach in gaza city. They were playing football. An initial strike came in, sent some boys running and another two, second and third strike came in, killing four boys. Foreign journalists were there. It was just by their hotel. Many were left to help rescue and assist the injured boys. Clearly this is focus in the minds of leaders of israel, and gaza and internationally to try to get a ceasefire to stick. This ceasefire now is for humanitarian purposes. What is needed is something that will last much longer and end the fighting. Hamish what role is the Obama Administration playing at this point . Does the u. S. Have any influence at this point . Reporter its difficult to tell who has any influence. The problem is, that in the past egypt has been able to negotiate ceasefires between israel and hamas, but theres a new government in egypt. The new leader is no fan of hamas because of the linkage to the Muslim Brotherhood and designated them a Terror Organization and banned them. They have no leverage over hamas to bring them to aa table for a ceasefire. The United States is putting pressure for that to happen. We know hamas seems to be more engaged talking about a ceasefire this time but theres eye big splinter between the political and military leadership of hamas. Were certainly watching this closely. Well, a palestinianamerican teenager allegedly beaten by Israeli Police has returned home to florida. 15yearold Tariq Abu Khdeir was greeted by dozens of supporters as he arrived in tampa last night, two weeks after the incident, which was apparently caught on camera. Tariq told the crowd hell never think about freedom in the same way. He also said, no child, whether palestinian or israeli, deserves to die. Now to another Foreign Policy crisis facing the white house. President obama is sending a strong message to russia over its continued support of militants in the ukraine. Mr. Obama announced a series of new economic sanctions. Were freezing the assets of several Russian Defense companies, and we are blocking new financing of some of russias most important banks and energy companies. Russian president putin appeared to brush off the new sanctions saying the white house was hurting American Companies who want to do business in russia. And at least six western states are battling wildfires this morning with hundreds of homes in danger. One fire in washington doubled in size in just a few hours yesterday cutting off a major highway that may be needed for evacuations. Smoke from that fire could be seen in downtown seattle. A state of emergency has been declared for 20 Eastern Washington counties. Meanwhile, a brush fire north of reno, nevada, practically doubled in size in just a few hours overnight. Its about 20 contained thanks to the use of air tankers and helicopters and hardworking firefighters there on the ground. Thankfully, though, no homes are threatened. Well, much of southern colorado is sopping wet this morning battered by a relentless line of powerful thunderstorms. Creeks overflowed and sent water surging through the streets of colorado springs. Many drivers couldnt even get home after a major highway and other flooded roads were shut down. The water rose so fast, a number of people had to be rescued from their cars. And streets also turned into raging rapids in parts of new england. Intersections in southern massachusetts filled up with so much water, cars in lowlying areas could barely get by. But all that water is receding as the northeast finally gets a break from the rain. Time now for the weather across the nation. The heaviest weather will be in texas and surrounding states, particularly in dallas ft. Worth and florida will also have rain and some of the sierras. It will be cooler than usual in the northeast and chilly this morning. Most of the country will see moderate temperatures and low humidity. Army Sergeant Bowe bergdahl is breaking his silence for the First Time Since he was released by his taliban captors. Speaking through his lawyer, the former p. O. W. Says hes grateful to president obama for saving his life. The lawyer says bergdahl is eager to leave the military, but officials have said they put his status on hold while the investigation continues. He wouldnt comment on why bergdahl has refused to meet with his parents. Meanwhile, new Jersey Governor Chris Christie is heading to iowa today for a series of republican fundraisers. Well, a hostage and two bank robbers are dead after a very dramatic gun battle in stockton, california, overnight. Three robbers sped off in a stolen suv with three hostages leading police on a 45minute highspeed chase. Two of the women taken at gunpoint, both Bank Employees, actually survived after they were shot and thrown from the suv during the chase. Police say a third woman, a bank customer, was used as a human shield and killed during the shootout, but its not clear who shot her. What is clear is that these gunmen were trying to kill people with their firearms and they put our entire community and nearby communities at risk for a very long time. Police cars, the stolen getaway cars and homes along the way were riddled with bullets. One officer said hes never seen anything like this in his 18 years on the job. The coast guard has called off the search for a texas man who never returned after a nighttime dive trip in the bahamas. The suspects led police on a high speed chase hostages. The case went through self communities before ending in northern stockton in a deadly gun battle. Here is the latest. The High Speed Pursuit ended here with police shot it out with three bank robbery suspects. Two are dead. But so is a hostage. One of the gunman used a third and final hostage, the bank customer, as a child. The victim, misty holtsingh identified the body. Her cousin says her 12yearold daughter was waiting in the car when the bank gob robbed at 2 00. She was innocent bystander and left her kid in the car, goes inside, whatever happened, happened, her daughter called the husband.
