Thats right, a rare and deadly pair of tornadoes killed a young boy and nearly wiped the town of pilger right off the map, and that dangerous storm system is on the move this morning. Its headed east bearing down on iowa. There are reports of weatherrelated damage overnight in wisconsin. That storm now headed towards chicago. It was a terrifying sight rarely seen by the human eye caught on camera by intrepid storm chasers. We have multiple tornadoes on the ground. Ive never seen anything like this. Reporter at least two tornadoes touched down roughly within a mile of each other 100 miles northeast of omaha. The monster twisters reported to be deadly ef4s generating winds up to 200 miles per hour. One of them estimated to have been nearly a mile wide as it bore down on the tiny town of pilger. We started hearing everything rip apart and the rain and the house ripping apart. Yeah, pilger is in major destruction right now. Reporter by the time it was all over, up to threequarters of the town was either damaged or destroyed. Many residents say they were stunned to be survivors. One man describing the frantic search for his friend. We thought he was gone for a long time. We kept yelling at him, and then we dug him out and pulled the wood off him, pulled the bricks off him and drug him out, and the three of us, somehow were all fine. It killed my dog. Reporter the entine town of pilger, all 378 residents, evacuated for the night. Nebraskas governor Dave Heineman declared a state of emergency deploying the National Guard to assist with Emergency Response and cleanup. And with the volatile system on the move today, storm warnings could go up across a very wide area from minneapolis to detroit. Last night he informed congress that he is sending up to 275 soldiers and marines, 170 to protect americans at the embassy in baghdad. The u. S. Already has a number of military assets in the region. Four warships including a u. S. Carrier able to launch 40 fighter jets and 2 ships that can fire cruise missiles. The president is also considering sending 100 special Operation Forces to iraq as advisers to iraqi troops. But the white house is also pursuing a diplomatic solution possibly working with iran to solve the crisis. We are open to any constructive process here that could minimize the violence.
