A key u. S. Ally, seemingly in chaos this morning. Right now, a violent crackdown on protesters is taking place in egypt. Egypt has been the scene of Political Tension for months. And overnight, things boiled over. Abcs Tahman Bradley joins us with the details. Good morning, tahman. Reporter diana and john, good morning. The crackdown came from Egyptian Security forces against supporters of egypts ousted president mohamed morsi. When those Security Forces moved in, they did so with volleys of teargas, along with armored cars and bulldozers. The intention was to clear two sites where morsi supporters had been holding protests. Their sitin had entered its seventh week. A statement from morsis Muslim Brotherhood party says at least 200 people have been killed. Hospital estimates put the number of those injured in the thousands. Government tv reports put those numbers significantly lower. And sources tell us that at least 200 morsi supporters have been arrested so far. Initially it was though, the governments plan was to surround both camps and allow protesters to leave peacefully over a threeday period. Obviously, somewhere along the way, that plan changed. Morsis backers began their protests after he was ousted from office by egypts military early last month. Diana and john . Abcs Tahman Bradley in washington for us this morning. Thank you.
