Almost every other person i spoke to had a personal story, whether it was a Family Member or friend affected by president trumps executive order which suspended refugee arrivals and banned travel to the u. His mother had to fly back to iraq to bury her father and now shes worried that she will never see her family here in the bay area again. Another woman who i spoke to is here on a student visa from iran and hasnt seen her mother in over a year and she was coming to visit and landed at sfo and was turned right back around and sent to iran. She arrived at 1 30 p. M. To San Francisco airport. But they deport her to my country. I couldnt see i couldnt see my i couldnt see my mom i couldnt meet my mom just for one second. I missed her. I cant i cant i cant travel to my country and my family couldnt travel to u. S. [ inaudible ] from all of these terrorists that came here as refugees. My mother is not going to be able to enter and that means we have to go back there and [ inaudible ]. So all of the people and he means the tourist, but not all of the people are terrorists. He signed an executive order issuing a 90 day ban for people from certain countries from entering the u. S. Seven countries are on the list, including iran, iraq and syria. There is a cap of 50,000 people on the total number of refugees admitted into the united states. Down from last years level of 110,000. The department of Homeland Security now has leeway to prioritize refugee claims on the basis of religiousbased persecution, as long as a person is a minority religion, making it easier for christians and other religion minorities in other countries to enter the united states. Leslie . Reporter the search effort, matt, just wrapped up at 4 00 today. Nothing turned up in this search for Jayda Jenkins, an 18yearold from tracy. This is Alameda Creek behind me. They had drones, they had kayaks, canine teams out here all daylong searching the churning waters and the shoreline. It was a physically grueling and emotionally charged search effort with teams spanning out along the vast creek bed that looks more like a river. About 100 volunteers joined the family as they concentrated on the creek west of mission boulevard on out to the bay where the waterway is lined with walking trails. I got a couple of coworkers bringing out their kayaks to go out to the bay to get to areas we cant get to on food, just trying to find her and bring her home. East of here, another official search zeroed in on the creek in steep niles canyon where her car plunged into the water last saturday in a storm. Waters then were five feet higher and flowing three times faster than today. Her car was recovered tuesday. But no sign of the 18yearold. Finally today niles canyon road was shut down to traffic as an army of experts converged here, including canine teams and search and rescue teams from all across the bay area. Their going to get down closer to the water, theyre going to look for things that havent been able to be searched before. We are doing everything that we can. We have boots on the ground. We have our uabs up and we have canines out and were putting every effort forward to make sure that we bring her home to her family. Reporter volunteers found clothes or shoes and texted photos back to her dad to see if they were significant. Jenkins determined family plans to be back out here in full force on sunday.
