You can see whats left of the rainmaker south of monterey. In between monterey and big sur. The snow is winding down, as well. Another hour for the Winter Weather advisory. They picked up around 1 two feet in kirkwood. 53 in san jose. You can see the view from our sutro tower camera. Lots of blue sky out there. Isnt that a pretty site in the Sierra Nevada . Temperatures are cool this morning. By the afternoon sunny and breezy. Midand upper 50s. We have the next and final system for the week ahead tonight. Ill track it for you in a few minutes. Thank you, lisa. She just talked about the Sierra Nevada. Chains are required from baxter to the donner lake interchange on interstate 80. Chains also required on highway 50, nine miles east of placerville to myers in eldorado county. This is castle peak. You can see some snow. The extra snow is good news for skiers as some resorts opened this holiday weekend. In the south bay the chp said 2 is cars were damaged on i880 in san jose. It happened just after midnight near the brocal road exit. Several cars hit a piece of debris that was blocking one of the lane. That caused damage to the tires or to the undercarriage of the cars. Officer said that because of the rainy conditions, drivers could not see the debris on the roadway. Rain reduced the amount of visibility. You cant see things as easy as you can in a normal conditions. It also makes it so that its harder to steer sometimes, especially when theres standing water. Two officers are back home and okay after being injured when an out of control car crashed into their patrol car on interstate 680. The officers were in the process getting an unattended disabled vehicle towed. It was about 11 00 last night. Investigators say the roads were closely guarded slick from the rain, causing the driver to lose control. They say this was not a dui and the driver was not hurt. Developing news out of new orleans this morning. Police have arrested people in connection with a shooting of ten people, including one who died. It happened on bourbon street in the french quarter. Police say the victims ages range from 20 to 37. Officers say one of the two men arrested is a victim who faces firearms charges. There was an increased Police Presence in new orleans because of the bayou classic. Its an annual College Football game. Police are investigating the motivation behind the shooting. Muni hopes to resolve an apparent hacking issue by this morning. Riders rode for free all day yesterday and through the night after someone allegedly hacked the payment system. The gates were open for more than 24 hours. Abc7 News Reporter Lisa Amin Gulezian has the story. The muni trains are rolling and passengers are rolling through the fair gates for free. I love it its good. Munis Payment Systems and machines have apparently been hacked. This message suddenly came across agents computer screens reading you hacked. All data encrypted. Then this out of Service Message appeared on payment machines. Has muni been hacked . Thats one of the things we are working to investigate. While sfmta investigates what happened and who is responsible, it decided to leave the gates wide open. As a precaution, we are trying to minimize any impact to our customers, no matter what it could be. For some its causing confusion. This family visiting from napa even put money into the machine. They bought three tickets, which they really didnt need. I would rather just pay for it and be safe than sorry. But for the most part, passengers were happy with the unexpected windfall. Robby chon, a twelveyear veteran, is in Critical Condition this morning with a major head injury after he was hit with a skateboard on thanksgiving day. Police say chon was chasing a suspect who had taken off on a skateboard after officers approached him for causing a disturbance on grand avenue. He turned and hit chon in the head with a skateboard, knocking him unconscious. This is the first time in a long time that our Police Department has been hit with a tragedy of this magnitude and its comforting for us to know that we are right there at our brothers side. The suspect has a criminal history. It includes felony battery, causing serious injury. Hes now booked on suspicion of attempted murder. Go to abc7news. It happened just east of north bernardo avenue yesterday evening. The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety said an eastbound driver lost control, hitting a tree in the central median. Bystanders got one person out of the car. Firefighters reached the other. Both died on scene. In cuba, nine days of official morning have begun. One week from today Fidel Castros ashes will be buried. Theres mixed reaction in the bay area and around the world to the death of the longtime cuban leader. Abc7 News Reporter Sergio Quintana has the details. Reporter at this restaurant in san jose, the coowner said she was surprised to hear fidel castro died, but shes certainly not celebrating. I see my family is there. I dont seem happy. People dont like when somebody dies. Its not happy. She left cuba in 1970 and immediately thought of her family there. Its not a time for them to be celebrating either. Yes, pray for the family in cuba. Nobody make a mistake. Bay area congresswoman barbara lee has a different perspective on castro. Shes traveled to cuba about 25 times over the years and was with secretary of state john kerry when he reopened the embassy there last year. I spoke with her by phone. Chris is the producer of a documentary called 13 million voices. It chronicles the production of a massive peace conference in cuba in 2009. He tried relating the fears some people still have. New details in the case of the two inmates who are still at large after escaping from the Santa Clara County jail next week. Not everyone in their cell tried to get out. Abc News Reporter eva pill gram explains. Two fugitives described as dangerous are on the run after a daring jailbreak in san jose, california. This morning abc news getting an exclusive look inside their cell. This is pretty strong. Im surprised they were able to cut through it. These are the bars left behind by the two men. They were part of a group of four inmates who orchestrate add get away Late Wednesday night. Cutting lou the window of their cell and repelling down two stories by tying together a series of blankets and bedsheets left dangling alongside the building. You can see where the bars are missing and you can see also they cut one of the horizontals support and pushed the window out and the window is still hanging there the two quickly captured by Police Patrolling the area but two have evaded the massive search for three days. These are dangerous people that are out there. The window now boarded up and the room empty. But the night of the escape it housed 20 inmates. Only four tried to get away. The other 16 stayed behind. If there are 20 people in a dormitory, and they were cutting the bars, you know that other people had to know. But investigators say no one is talking, offering no details on the escape plan. And the sheriff, lori smith, said the inmates had to have used a metal tool to cut the window, making it hard to believe the other 16 inmates did not hear or see something. A major loss in flames gutted a Recreation Center thats been part of the community for more than five decades. It is the Mosswood Park Recreation Center on webster street. The mayor is calling for donations to help rebuild the Recreation Center. Melanie woodrow looks at the impact on people who live in the area. Reporter firefighters cleaning up after a fire at the Mosswood Park Recreation Center in oakland. Im speechless. Im speechless and im heartbroken. Janice johnson said shes been coming here for 55 years. My kids come here every day. I was here every day. Our childrens children planned to be here every day. The center, which according to fire officials and neighbors, included a preschool, an inclusion school, and several daily activities. Its now charred. Supplies inside destroyed. Firefighters spent most of the morning putting out hotspots. They said accessing the rear of the building was difficult. The company pulled largediameter hose lines to stop it from spreading to the victorian. She says the victorian has minor heat damage. Neighbors said they recently met to talk about renovations. The center was one of many places up for consideration. Obviously i would think this would probably be at the top of the list for priority places now. I have a construction background. I dont mind helping. A longtime gem in oakland, now devastated. Theres no other place than mosswood. You have to have mosswood like you have to have water in your body. Firefighters saved 17 dogs from a fire in east oakland that started yesterday evening at a home at the 108th avenue and myers street. Oakland firefighters tweeted out pictures and video of the rescue. They say no one was hurt. A longtime character actor best known for his role on Barney Miller has passed away. Ron glass died last night after suffering from respiratory failure. For 8 years in the 70s and early 80s he starred as a detective on the hit show Barney Miller. He was also in episodes of the streets of San Francisco and most recently agents of shield and fire flie. Ron glass was 71 years old. We have more news this morning about the moment officers found the missing redding mom, sherri papina. Shes heavily battered. Thats audio from thanksgiving day. Three weeks before she vanished while jogging. Her cell phone, ear buds and strands of hair were found. Its the 4 30 a. M. Thanksgiving morning. A driver spotted her and dialed 911. A female appears injured. Heavily battered. Ill a have a phone number for you to call her husband. The california Highway Patrol was able to connect sherri with her husband by phone almost immediately. She and keith have been reunited. She vanished when she vanished three weeks ago. He called when she failed to pick up the kids from daycare. Later he found her phone and strands of her hair where she was jogging. She was found 150 miles away. Sometimes the littlest details can be a major break in the case. [indiscernible] shes now examining her clothing and restraints searching for any dna that might lead them to her kidnappers. And that was nick watt reporting. Happening today, hundreds will gather in San Francisco for the anniversary of the death of mayor moscone harvey milk. There will be a candlelight vigil at castro and 17th streets. This is video from a previous vigil. Organizers say members of the Lgbtq Community will reflect on months coneys legacies. The san joaquin valley, southern california, no more snow advisories. Just maybe a few more snowflakes in the mountains. The mountains did pretty well. In terms of rainfall we saw third of an inch hayward, concord and napa. Over three quarter of an inch in Mountain View and san jose. That results in a normal thats well above average. 122 above normal in oakland. San jose is at 106 of normal and look at santa rosa, 191 of normal. We will be adding to these totals. We have a third and final system to track late tonight into the overnight hours. So heres a live look from san jose where it is sunny and the peninsula and south bay really gaining some good rainfall from the last system. 52 San Francisco, 53 in Mountain View, gilroy and half moon bay. Hillary Clintons Campaign said it intends to back the general election recount effort in wisconsin. Green Party Candidate jill stein has spearheaded the effort with an Online Fundraising campaign to pay for the recounting of votes in wisconsin, michigan and pennsylvania. Clintons team had been quiet about steins crusade, but now they say they want to see a fair process for all involved. Yesterday president elect donald trump released a statement condemning the push for recounts, calling it a scam and saying the people have spoken, the election is over. The cost of keeping the president and his family safe could skyrocket with the incoming administration. Thats because the white house may not be the only place the secret service will have to protect. Our reporter rachel crane explains. They are fantastic people and i want to thank the secret service. 725 fifth avenue, also known as trump tower, might be getting a new tenant, the secret service. A Law Enforcement official tells cnn that the secret service is considering renting a whole floor of the famed tower in order to establish a 24 7 command post, ensuring the safety of the future first family, who wont all be moving to the white house in january. Melania and their tenyearold son, baron, will continue to live in trump tower. When asked about the timing of their move, trump said this.
