Today a mixture of sunshine and clouds in the afternoon. Comfortable, 63 San Francisco, about 68 oakland, 72 san jose and 70 in napa. We are tracking a couple chances of rain. We will show you next on the sevenday forecast coming up. Carolyn. Thank you wet are developing breaking news in the east bay this morning. Shots were fired at officers, as well as several other people. It all happened just before midnight near 77th and bancroft avenues. Police say several men, ranging in age from 27 to 45, have been injured. One has been treated and released. The others are recovering at the hospital. Police say all of their officers are okay. New questions are being raised after the massive cyber attack on friday. Hackers used devices you could have in your home to shut down the internet. It crippled several major websites and Security Experts say this could be just the beginning. Abc7 News ReporterTiffany Wilson explains. Household appliances used to launch an attack. A cybersecurity expert said the internet of things is likely to be played again. We are seeing more and more texts exploiting these type of devices against targets. Starting friday morning hackers transformed everything from Baby Monitors to vacuum cleaners into an army overwhelming servers with phony requests. Its called a distributed denial of Service Attack and meant people couldnt watch netflix or use twitter. The group new world hackers claimed responsibility. The affected companies lost money in customers. He said we should really be concerned about the risk to us individually. For example, he worries a hacker could blackmail you by threatening to turn the brakes off in your car or peering into your babys monitor. Every single one of those devices can become a little canon. He estimates he has ten of those little canons in his own home. Thats pretty scary, for sure. I mean, i have cameras all around my house. Theres no easy way to know if your devices were used in the web attack, but he said there is a simple solution to make your devices safer. Every new Device Installed in the home, make sure the default password it came with in the box gets changed so no one can hack into the device. A bit of homework to protect your home. In San Francisco, Tiffany Wilson, abc7 news. The family of a young navy seaman is demanding answers after she suddenly died while at sea near japan. 23yearold Danyelle Luckey recently enlisted as a way to travel the world, get an education and serve her country. Abc7 News ReporterLisa Amin Gulezian has the story. We were just inseparable. She was my baby. I dont understand. It hurts. It hurts so bad. I just dont know what i am going to do without her. Reporter annette and Darryl Luckey are heartbroken. Their daughter danyelle enlisted this the navy just five months ago. She passed boot camp with no problems and was on her first deployment aboard the uss Ronald Reagan when she suddenly died. The family was told shed been sick for a few days and may have died of cardiac arrest. When my baby left here, she was standing tall and she was healthy. My baby comes back in a casket. The 23yearold bay area womans body was returned to the bay area thursday. One naval officer saluted luckey, who is considered a veteran. Her family stood in silence, devastated. This really hurts and its really sad to know we will never see her again. It really hurts a lot. Autopsy results wont be in for another two months. The pittsburgh native planned to one day return home and become a social worker to help troubled teenage girls. Danyelle luckeys funeral will take place here wednesday morning. Berkeley Greek Community met to discuss what changes needed to be made after recent allegations of sexual assault. Two women were reportedly assaulted at fraternity parties offcampus last weekend. In response, the greek system has chosen to suspend parties at both fraternities and sororities. The group met yesterday to discuss the ban and to self Police Future social events. A 32yearold was arrested yesterday after officers received tips from a public. On october 4th a person slammed into the back of a horse trailer and left the scene. The horse, named chance, was initially not expected to survive. Chance has recovered, but can never be ridden again. An enormous tree crushed a man in his own backyard in san rafael. He was gardening when it happened. Abc7 News ReporterLeslie Brinkley has more. Reporter this 75foot tall eucalyptus tree cracked at the base of its trunk and toppled not onto the house, but onto a man out in his backyard watering and digging. The 911 call came in 3 30 in the afternoon of friday. The owner of the property was found underneath the tree. Pinned under the tree. Pinned under the tree, unconscious. We were able to remove him from under the tree. We attempted some rescusitative efforts on scene but were not successful. 77yearold David Lombard decide. Shocked neighbors and friends came through the gated driveway in this steep neighborhood. Groves of eucalyptus trees are everywhere and in every yard. The eucs are among the biggest and we always look up at them and wonder but its kind of terrifying that one could fall over and kill someone like that. Tom bair pointed out the leaning trees in his yard and one that came crashing down on his driveway during a winter rainstorm, narrowly missing the cars. The trip from the east bay to Treasure Island is a little safer and easier. New on and off ramps opened up to drivers on the bay bridge yesterday morning. Big difference . The exit is now on the right side of the bridge instead of the far left. The tight turns and quick merges are gone, as well. The project costs 98 million to complete. Caltrans is schedule today open the last part of the bay bridge bike path today at noon. The 4mile bike path will open at noon. The four and a half mile path on the eastern span will finally go all the way to Yerba Buena Island. Drivers will need to take a shuttle because the roads on Yerba Buena Island are not considered safe for cyclists and pedestrian. Nice day to walk or bike. It is. The world series starts tuesday night in cleveland. And this is a live look now at Wrigley Field where things have quieted down, but im sure everybody is still out there cheering. Shu will have highlights from the game coming up in sports. Just a little bit of perspective about how long its been since the team has been in the world series. Color television did not yet exist and neither did credit cards, International Air travel, the nba or even the states of alaska and hawaii. Happening today, crewmembers who died in world war ii and the submarines they served on will be honored in a special ceremony. The Mare Island Heritage trust will host the tenth annual lost boats memorial event. Seven of the 23 submarines built at mare island went down during the war, along with 575 crew men on board. Today there will be a flag raising and wreath laying ceremony. The free event starts at 1 30 this afternoon at mare island in vallejo. An east bay teenager with a passion for helping others has scared up a Haunted House for a good cause. Abc7 news was in albany last night for a behindthescenes four of the broken spine mine. The 16yearold created an elaborate Haunted House with electronics and moving floors. Its the fourth year he and his friends have built a Haunted House in his backyard. This years theme, an abandoned mine in the middle of the bay area that no one knows about. To be scared and startled and amazed by special effects and all sorts of actors. The Haunted House is at 1048 peralta avenue. I wonder what the neighbors be think. It is open to the public for two nights only, next saturday and on halloween. You can get in for a donation of 5. Half the money raised goes to the almeda county Community Food bank. In the south bay more than 5,000 people came out to help find a cure for cancer. The light the night walk was held at a stadium in san jose last night. These walkers raised 1. 5 million for the leukemia and lymphoma society. Each one carried different colored lanterns. Gold is for all the people who have passed away and its in memory of them. The red is for all the participants. And then the white is for the survivors. We will start the clock on monday morning. The next storm system make be its way to the northern coast, arriving in eureka. By 4 00, 5 00 its still active. Some showers developing around santa rosa. And the front really has a difficult time sinking to the south. It almost stalls over the north bay, and it really weakens rather rapidly. How its looking right now with the monday showers, certainly in northern california, around eureka, thats where the soaking rains look to be focused. Limited moisture with some front by the time it gets to bait area. Right now it does look like the best chance of seeing a shower is really going to be in the north bay. I would not be surprised in south of the golden gate we do not pick up a shower. But we will keep the chance of an isolated sprinkle. We will get new information this afternoon and question will have an update on abc7 news at 5 00 later this evening. The next several days, partly cloudy skies tonight way today. Going to be very nice out there, feeling like fall. On monday the clouds will increase. Theres the chance of a shower in the north bay late in the day. And that chance still lingers on Tuesday Morning. By wednesday, a mixture of sunshine and clouds out there. Then on thursday the cloud cover will come back in full force. Thats the best chance of widespread wet weather coming on friday. And while the north bay gets soaked maybe on monday, perhaps north of santa rosa, but looks like friday we might all get a good soaking. Quite different from last week. I know. The election again is just 16 days away. 50 years ago this month, huey newton and bobby seal formed the black Panther Party in oakland. A gala was held last night to commemorate the anniversary and theres a Museum Exhibit on the movement. The curator at the museum calls the black panthers controversial to some, but inspirational to many. This exhibit captures both sides of the party born in oakland in 1966. There are photos of black men in leather jackets and black berets often armed and pushing back to police. The fbi called them the greatest threat to american security. But the community saw something else. The handwritten draft of the panthers founding platform, the the tenpoint program, included demands for decent housing, full employment and self determination. Its this remarkable document that shows how the language was being shaped, how ideas were being developed in a very thoughtful, organized way. This is one of my images. 68yearold gail dixon is an former black panther. One of the illustratetors for the party paper back when she was known as a a sali. Women like her made up twothirds of the membership nationwide. Believe it or not, i saw it as what they called a revolution, a total change. Systemic change. She was involved in the partys survival programs, the free breakfast for children, the medical clinics, the schools. For me its always been about taking care of the Community One way or the other. The museum collaborated with several former panthers on this exhibit, which took three years to complete. The exhibit features interactive touches. For example, you can sit in a replica of that iconic chair huey newton made famous. The black panthers long ago disbanded, but their impact and influence continue. And a closing event for the commemoration will be held at the museum at 1 00 this afternoon. It includes a ceremony to name a grove in honor of late Panther Bobby hutton. There will also be a giveaway of 500 bags of free groceries, symbolizing the work the panthers used to do in the community. And the exhibit runs through february 12th. Probably in the well into the afternoon and early evening hours on monday. Thats when we could see some slight showers starting to make their way into santa rosa. As the front tries to make its way south, its marching but its doing it very slowly. As it gets close to the golden gate, it looks to fall apart. It will likely be one of those events where the north bay sees measurable rainfall burks much of the bay area sees little to no rainfall outside of the north bay. Take a look at future track rainfall totals and question will show you what we are talking about. Up see pretty good numbers in the north bay, close to halfinch in santa rosa. Once you start getting close to the golden gate and outside of the north bay, once you get the numbers in the single digits, yeah, likely thats not going to hit the ground. Some spots like livermore and san jose likely not seeing measurable rainfall out of this system. You can keep track of it with the abc7 news app. Lets talk about the accuweather sevenday forecast. Today partly cloudy. Monday the clouds increasing. Then theres the chance of a shower late in the day and mainly in the north bay. That shower chance continues early Tuesday Morning in the north bay. As someone who is a survivor of rape and sexual abuse myself, i realize that this represented my story. The citys chief innovation officer wanted to make a home for the sculpture here after it was displayed at burning man. The messaging is to look past the skin to the inner strength and beauty that all of us have. Of course, not everyone sees it that way. I think its very inappropriate to have like a naked body just like that. And its huge. You cant miss it, especially if its lit at night. But the tide may be changing. As people heard the back story, we have found that most people have embrace it. Its a hightech sculpture, but truth in beauty is not some computergenerated idea. Im a real person. Ten years ago she modeled for the sculptures in poses she picked. The point is shes a real person and you should be able to see her as a real person, even if shes nude. And san leandro, its a message to the tech industry, so often lacking diversity. , in these workplaces women are welcome. Our work begins today, it doesnt end today. It happened early this morning. A tour bus and a semitruck crashed on interstate 10 in desert hot springs. The chp said firefighters are using ladders trying to get into the bus windows to pull out people who are still trapped.
