He is 39yearold her herardo hernandez identify by his neighbors and transferred recently from montana, the first ever tsa officer killed in the line of duty. It is shocking. Very nice guy. X. , more than 160,000 people affected and those who were inside on friday morning describe the scene of shear chaos. A quiet morning at los angeles airports terminal 3 suddenly plunged into panic and havoc. This tmz video shows the terrified traveler whens a lone gunman, paul ciancia, uh etch proked a checkpoint and pulled a semiautomatic rifle from a bag. He shot one tsa officer dead and wounded at least two others. First shot went out. And i mean it was a loud bang. Boom. Security in terminal 3. The shooter seemed to be aiming at tsa officers. A man wearing a blue tsa uniform was helped from the scene holding up his bloody arm. I heard gunshots and we all just went down to the ground. Those who could made a run for the exits while others sought shelter in bathrooms. I caught up with him near the rear of the terminal and that is where an officer involved shooting occurred. The gunman went down, wounded by police gunfire. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance under heavy guard. Police say his rifle fell where he did. Along with ammunition that might have fuelled a blood bath. There were more than a hundred more rounds that could have literally killed everybody in the terminal today. The tsa officer who died was gerardo hernandez, he was 39 and the first tsa agent ever killed in the line of duty. The tsa officer got up and went to work this morning and was not going to go home to their family. Hernandez leaves behind two sons. He had just transferred here from montana recently. Law enforcement sources say the alleged shooter left behind a note expressing anger and frustration at the tsa and he expected to die out here in an airport shootout. Live in los angeles, abc7 news.
