Reporter the entire city is on high alert for may day with protests beginning as early as 5 30 a. M. Police called in for extra patrols to keep order and police. Were learning new details about a shooting in Sonoma County we first brought you live at 5 00. Police confirm a man was shot at police 3 30 this afternoon no deputies were injured in the incident. Police are on scene on fifth street. The man was taken to santa rosa memorial hospital. Authorities have not released his condition or why an officer decided to fire a weapon. Some tense and very scary moments today in San Franciscos tenderloin district. A man hijacked a car with a 4 monthold baby inside. Fortunately it took just four minutes for the police to arrest the man thanks to a cautious bystander. Well, when you have a child who has been taken it becomes the top priority, and police know they have to act quickly. Now, in this case it was Good Old Fashioned Police Work that got the job done. Just occurred, with a baby in the back. Reporter it happened at 10 40 a. M. Here in the tenderloin. This man parked his blue vehicle waiting to pick up his wife. The 4 monthold baby girl was in the back seat. He heard banging on his car. The other individual came up and picked up the person. Reporter another person jumped into the car and drove off. Hun flagged down police who then radioed the description of the car and license plate number. Ten minutes later, sergeant ken lee was driving on the 500 block of brian street looking for the car when he thought he spotted it. The suspicious vehicle was here parked by the door. I have the vehicle. I only heard partial plate at the time so i was not able to confirm if that was the car or not. But once i exited the drivers side door the other one came out of the door. Sergeant lee was right on, he said he explained what happened. He said he just got in the car and there was a baby in the back. So i handcuffed him, and opened the rear door and saw the baby in the back seat still strapped into the car seat. Reporter the baby was reunited with her mom and dad. Doing our jobs every single peace officer in this nation would have done the same thing. Reporter others would call him a hero the suspect was arrested and sergeant lee did get the last word. Listen. I have the suspect in custody at 555 seventh street, do you have the baby . The baby is fine. Reporter and the question of course is why would the suspect park his car in front of the public defenders office. Staffers there confirm he is a client of theirs and that is all they would say. But public records show that the suspect was arrested in march on drugrelated charges and robbery. The man who confessed to killing a 9yearold boy made his first appearance in martinez courtroom today. 18yearold William Schultz was staying with his best Friends Family last week when he said he decided to kill his best friends younger brother just to see what it was like. Laura martinez has more it must have been very difficult in court today laura. Reporter it was dan this hearing lasted just moments but it was clear there was plenty of suffering to go around. Obviously for the family of the 9yearold victim. But also for the parents of the suspect. As he made his first court appearance, 18yearold William Schultz tried to look at his mother, clearly distraught sitting in a packed courtroom. The charges . First degree murder in the stabbing death of the 9yearold including the special circumstance of lying in wait. He is charged right now with the special circumstance, which make he is on notice at this point in time we are not pursuing this as a death case. Reporter in an exclusive jail house interview, schultz admitted to killing the sleeping jordan saying quote, i put my hand over his face and i stabbed him. Schultz told the times had he used a weapon like this one, a Survival Knife that he recently purchased. Schultz also told the paper he thought the world was coming to an end and that he killed his best friends little brother to see what it was like. I expected to maybe if i was lucky, to raise a few,000 dollars. Reporter zach crocker is a local blogger who happened by on his bike, he got upset that they were funding instead of helping so he started the go fund me drive. So his surprise the donations poured in. And suddenly he had 180,000. It blew my mind i guess i never realized the power of online fundraising. Reporter he also didnt realize the responsibility. Potential donors peppered him with questions. I had people emailing me asking me for my credentials, who am i . What am i doing . Why am i doing this . At a certain point it got so overwhelming, that i realized look, these concerns are totally valid. Online funding platforms are so new that there is no mediateor or body looking at what actually goes on. Reporter the Consumer Reports shows that there is no over sight of what is going on. An estimated 16 billion was raised last year and that is expected to double to 35 billion next year. Donors also may not realize the sites make a profit off their gifts. Go fund me takes 5 of each donation, its payment processer takes 2. 9 . Together, they took 16,000 of the donations intended for the victims of that Mission Street fire. The Company Tells us those fees keep the platform running. But these are a tremendous disappointment. Reporter Gabriel Medina works for the Mission Economic development agency, which department manages donations. How do we make sure that families with more children are treated fairly or single mothers, the elderly, there is no rule. Reporter they had to decide how to clearly distribute 165,000. A couple of con artists did try to claim they lived in the building. But in the end, zach handed out checks ranging from six to 15,000 to 40 victims. God bless them. Yeah. To help.
