Students and teachers are protesting president elect Donald Trumps inauguration and calling out his support for privatization of Public Schools. Protests have been a common sight for students wanting to have their voices heard. Most of them peaceful, like this one. We saw in San Francisco after the election. So, protests are expected to stay on campus. Some staging walk in, Others Holding hands in solidarity. Meanwhile, Inauguration Day tomorrow, also shaping up to be strike day for hundreds of High School Students in oakland and berkeley. Many are planning to join a protest march to uc berkeley where cal students will be rallying. Both berkeley and oak districts are urging students, though, to stay in class. The districts stand to lose thousands in state funds if students dont show up to school. Tomorrow, president elect donald trump is going to take the oath of office and the this morning, washington, d. Today, 3500 Law Enforcement officers from around the country will be sworn in as special deputies by the u. S. Marshalls for duty during the inauguration. This afternoon, president elect trump and Vice President elect mike pence will attend a replaying at Arlington National cemetery. They will then make their way to the Lincoln Memorial for the make America Great again welcome celebration. For those celebrating the president elects victory, the night will be capped off with more than a dozen balls and galas. Not to be left out, those who oppose the president elect will be holding balls and gatherings of their own and we do expect many protests as well. We will be here throughout this historic event. Yesterday, officials declared a state of emergency. Its due to all the infrastructure damage from wave after wave of storms. Officials estimate the county will spend 15 million to fix the storm problems that already exist and they expect more will be coming. Doesnt look like this rain is going to have the impact that we had earlier but because everything is so saturated, even the small amount of rain will probably still cause additional sall slides. Will probably still bring trees down. A state of emergency allows napa county to access help from other counties, the state, and the federal government. Meanwhile, in San Francisco, crews will help knock down loose rocks already in danger of falling on oshaughnessy boulevard. An unstable hillside forced crews to close it yesterday. The city is worried that it could crumble because of this weeks rain and wind. In the south bay, highway 130 is back open this morning after a downed tree forced a closure yesterday. That tree came down near pedro view road. It also brought down power lines. In hayward, it was a similar scene along linfield lane. A resident took this photo and shared it with abc7 news. City crews managed to cut the tree up and cleared it off the roadway. U. S. Park rangers will decide later this morning if muir woods will open. They closed the Redwood Grove due to fears about high winds causing trees and branches to fall. More than 20 people are feared dead after an avalanche buried a hotel in central italy and this is new video of one of two people rescued overnight. He was able to text and call authorities to alert him about his location. Crews are digging through snow, looking for other people inside. Officials say yesterdays series of strong quakes may have triggered the avalanche. A horrifying video that is coming out of iran. Capital city of tehran, this fire killed a number of firefighters this morning. A highrise tower burst into flames and collapsed while people were watching on live tv. We talked with a good amount of businesses that actually said that they were going to have a table right outside of their business and cheering us on. City officials will activate their Emergency Operations center and all police days off have been canceled for the weekend. One car dealership along broadway told us they wont board up their windows but they will move their cars inside. And as a result of these protests, b. A. R. T. Is expanding its capacity. The agency is going to be running longer trains, ten cars each, beginning saturday. The trains will not be running more often, theyll just have more cars on them. For the first time, the San FranciscoPolice Department has released body cam video. This is from an officer involved shooting. So heres a part of it. Get on the ground get on the ground [ gunshots ] this happened january 6. 4 yearold sean moore was agitated and verbally aggressive while two officers asked him in a calm manner to come down from the top of the stairs. Officers tried to subdue the uncooperative moore with their batons and then fired two shots. Family members say moore suffers from paranoid schizophrenic. He was hit in the stomach and the groin. The interim police chief says proper policy was used. I think there was great restraint shown. As you can hear the officers clearly say, he has something in his hand. They did not default to gun. They used pepper spray, they used a baton. Photos show the officers injuries after the scuffle. Moore now faces several charges, including assault on a police officer. If you commute by ferry, then youre probably still talking about last nights ride home. It was a wild ride for some people. And get this. You could be in for another round of this tomorrow morning. Look how these passengers were tossed about during yesterdays storm. They had to stop running the ferries and cancel routes because it was so windy and choppy. Snacks were falling off the shelves. It sounds like it was pretty miserable. It was pretty rough out there. It was kind of like a roller coaster, wave effect. It was a couple of people out there getting seasick and stuff like that. It was pretty bad. Theyve canceled them a few times in the past but this was extremely rough. Ive never seen swells that big out in the bay. Looks like we have another batch of showers moving through the peninsula right now but we finally are all clear, southbound 101, right around ralston before holly street a spinout over an hour ago, an suv was facing sideways in the two left lanes but that cleared and that backup is finally cleared out too.
