Illegal fireworks are to blame for a onealarm house fire. This happened around 1 15 this morning. The garage suffered the brunt of the damage but the family is now out of the house. The fire caused 100,000 worth of damage. No one there was hurt. Developing news, San Jose Police are investigating an officerinvolved shooting. Jessica castro joins us live in san jose with what the family says happened before their loved one was killed. Jessica. Reporter matt, good morning. It was a teenager who was shot here and that family probably only now trying to get some shuteye after a very traumatic past 13 hours. By all accounts a really quiet neighborhood is what weve seen this morning as well. The police just wrapped up their investigation. Take a look, it was a much different story when they got here to this home yesterday. A man claiming to be the teenagers uncle told abc 7 news the victim was 18 years old, had been depressed and tried to kill himself before cops arrived. But it is still unclear why police fired on the teen. Abc 7 news talked to witnesses. It was crazy. It was really surreal to see Something Like this in this neighborhood. Like nothing really happens like that here that often. Reporter and now as the morning gets going, we are hoping to get more details from police. When we got out here to the scene, we were seeing some police cars out here. They wrapped up, rolled up the police tape, which means they spent about 12 hours here on scene investigating only part of a very lengthy investigation now under way. In san jose, jessica castro, abc 7 news. A lot of things to uncover from that. Breaking news this morning, an el al flight from new york to israel has landed safely after they got a threat onboard. The flight was headed to tel aviv from jfk when the airline received an anonymous bomb threat. Military jets from france and switzerland were deployed. The jets escorted that flight until it made a safe landing. Developing news from rome. Italian police have arrested a homeless man in connection with the death of an American College student. Authorities found the body of 19yearold beau solomon in a river yesterday. He went missing just hours after arriving in italy for a trip to study abroad. His family says beau was a stellar student and a proud cancer survivor. Over 15 to 20 procedures growing up throughout his life and was able to overcome all of that. His school in rome said he was last seen in a pub with friends. Thousands of dollars had been charged on solomons credit card in milan, miles from where he was found. Happening today, a los gatos couple facing charges for sexually abusing their adopted son are expected to appear in court. This was an exclusive iteam story. The alleged victim, dennis flynn, is now 23 years old. He filed a lawsuit in march. Court records show dennis told police his adoptive father, ralph flynn, began abusing him after he arrived in the u. S. When he was 9. He says his adoptive mother, carolyn flynn, joined in when he was 15. The couple faces 44 criminal charges. They are expected to be in court this afternoon. Marin county supervisors spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in an effort to put a dent in the Affordable Housing crisis. According to the marin independent journal, the supervisors will spend 450,000 on the section 8 program. Under that program low income families pay 30 of their income for rent. Marin housing pays the remainder of the rent and the Housing Authority will try to entice land lowers to accept more of these section 8 vouchers. Heads up if you drive on the golden gate bridge. A new lane configuration goes into effect today. Heres a live look at the bridge right now. Adding an extra northbound lane for the afternoon commute has caused long backups for southbound drivers because they lose a lane. Starting today, the extra northbound lane will only be in effect for 30 minutes instead of a full hour. Northbound traffic will only had the extra lane from 4 00 to 4 30 tuesdays through fridays. Among them manslaughter and assault. Gray died last year after suffering a spinal injury that occurred while being driven in a police van. A neighbor just came out and stared in disbelief at all of this damage. Look for yourself, a boardedup red tagged garage and burned appliances and furniture now sitting out on the yard ready to be taken away. The neighbors said that the fireworks that came out of this house last night were loud. Its sad and hard to believe that this happened. Heres a look at what it looked like right after the fire. Look closely, its debris from fireworks and firefighters do think thats what caused this fire here in this garage. The family who lives here is displaced, two adults and a child. Even though this just happened, firefighters were quick to zero in on what happened. We had a fire investigator on the scene that reported the cause of the fire. Illegal fireworks that breached the wall and made it into the garage. Reporter vallejo firefighters got the call at 1 15 this morning. They estimate that this fire did about 100,000 worth of damage. They say that they did save the home but the family did have to leave. They cannot stay here at this time and this is all they say because of illegal fireworks. But the good news is no one was hurt. Live in vallejo, Amy Hollyfield, abc 7 news. An effort by Oakland Police and firefighters who have cracked down on illegal fireworks seems to have done little good. Check that out. People began launching fireworks throughout the city before the sun went down last night. Neighbors reported seeing illegal fireworks everywhere. Peter croft posted this video on youtube. Were still waiting to hear how many people were actually caught by police. This is the first year san jose offered an online form on the city website and had an app so you could report people using illegal fireworks easily. It looks like almost 300 people submitted those reports. The city raised fines in hopes people would go to organized events. Investigators havent ruled out illegal fireworks for sparking a fire that drove a woman and her dog from their home in the oakland hills. You can see all the damage. Abc 7 news was there as firefighters looked for hot spots inside a burnedout duplex last night. The fire broke out on reuben drive just after 6 00. Nobody got hurt there. They were out here all night long in whats going to be a very lengthy investigation that has only just begun. It happened at this home in East San Jose on feller avenue near story road just before 5 00 p. M. Yesterday. Police have not said why they fired on the man. We initially saw a lot of Police Officers with ar15s and rifles and thats when we heard two gunshots and they sounded like highpowered rifle shots. The gun control battle resumes in the u. S. House today. You likely remember that sitin that democrats staged two weeks ago. Well, democrats are going to get a vote. Maybe they are not financially solid so that seems to be weighing on stocks today. The major shift for online commerce, amazon changing how it entices people to buy things. In many cases amazon has dropped any mention of a list price. Theres just one price, take it or leave it. The New York Times says the new approach comes as discounts online and offline have become the subject of dozens of lawsuits. Google currently offering potential subscribers of the play music and youtube Read Services for free. This is in celebration of the fourth of july. So for four whole months, new users signing up for the monthly plans of either service will get unlimited access and will get to try out features of these new exclusive apps and what they have to offer. Thank you, sue. Construction is set to start this morning on one of San Franciscos most dangerous streets. Masonic avenue between gary boulevard and fell street will undergo an 18 million improvement project. One lane of traffic in each direction will be eliminated. 167 parking spots will also disappear. Theyll be replaced with wider sidewalks, bike paths and a median with trees. There will also be new lighting to improve safety. The project is expected to take a year and a half to complete. Theres a Grassroots Efforts under way to save a bar thats considered iconic to San Franciscos lgbt community. The current owner of the stud bar is planning to close it. He says the new owners of the building are tripling the rent in september. It will go up to 9,000. Now a group of stud employees and patrons want to form a coop to keep it open. Its really worthwhile. Its been here around 50 years. Its been a hub of lgbt culture in that whole time. A lot of our spaces in San Francisco are closing, appear its not that there arent lgbt people here, its that were getting priced out of where we are. The group is calling itself s. O. S. , save our stud. They want to buy the bar and broker a new lease. They may have to move it to a new location. A worker who has worked there 27 years is offering to pay septembers represent to buy them some more time. The stud is the oldest operating bar south of market.
