Authorities say a vehicle crashed into a wall. No word on what caused this accident. Developing news out of the east bay where several lanes are closed on interstate 880 in fremont following a fatal crash. It happened around 3 00 this morning on southbound 880 at the auto mall parkway on ramp. Authorities say multiple vehicles were involved in the crash. All but one lane is blocked. Those lanes have since reopened. No word yet on what caused this accident. In other news, a man and woman accused of killing two Northern California deputies in a Violent Crime spree are now in jail. A man who identified himself as Marcello Marquez and his wife Janelle Marquez monroe, will face several charges including murder. The crime spree started friday morning in sacramento. A man with an Assault Rifle shot and killed a deputy. The gunman then shot someone during a carjacking attempt. A few hours later two deputies were shot in auburn. One of them died. Monroe and marquez were arrested after a manhunt. Sacramento county Deputy Danny Oliver and Deputy Michael davis jr. , both veteran officers in their departments. Yesterday family and friends honored both deputies in a special procession. Reporter Gabriel Rojas has this story. Reporter the procession began at the Coroners Office in sacramento. Deputies led the procession to roseville where firefighters raised the flag over vernon street and citizens lined up to pay their respects. These guys and women who put their life on the line every day for us deserve this type of respect by all of these people showing up. Federal authorities now say fingerprints of the suspected shooter say he was first deported to mexico in 1997 after being convicted in arizona for drug possession. He was arrested and deported again in 2001. Sacramento county sheriffs Authorities Say the suspect identified himself as 34yearold Marcello Marquez of salt lake city. However, federal Officials Say his fingerprints match the biometric records. For luis Enrique Monroe brockamonte. San Francisco Police and the fbi hope you might recognize a man who robbed a bank. A surveillance camera captured this image of the man during a violent takeoverstyle robbery at the bank on 24th street. At least two men took part in the robbery on september 29th. Investigators say chp officer Shawn Harrington confessed to stealing racy females of female drunk driving suspects from their cell phones. Harrington is accused of sending pictures to at least one other officer working the dublin office. The other officers could face criminal charges. A drunk driving suspect discovered the photos had been sent from her home to harringtons after her arrest in august. In a statement, chief brown of the Golden Gate Division said he is disappointed and appalled by the allegations. And we expect the highest levels of integrity and moral strength from everyone in the california Highway Patrol and theres no place in our organization for such behavior. The officer is currently on administrative duty. A new report shows us more of the controversial relationship between the 49ers and San Jose Police department. Officers would moonlight as security for the team and its players. One officer was working at Ray Mcdonalds house when the niners player was arrested. Our media partner the San Jose Mercury news obtained hundreds of internal San Jose Police department emails. In them, a sergeant told other officers offduty work for the team would be a cash cow. Officers who did Security Work emailed about being tired when reporting back to duty. Space heaters can warm up a chilly room, but beware, they account for onethird of all home heating fires each year. And more than 80 of home heating fire deaths. Consumer reports has just tested more than two dozen space heaters and says if you have an older one, consider replacing it. The new ones have gotten safer. Kevin riley lost his restaurant when a fire started in the apartment above. He says firefighters determined the blaze was sparked by a space heater. It was all of maybe 45 seconds up there, and thats all it took. That hallway filled up with smoke very quickly. Reporter Consumer Reports checked a variety of heaters to see how well they work and if they have the latest safety features. All the heaters tested have a safety switch that turns them off if they overheat or tip over. And they all passed this safety check. Testers measured how hot this terry cloth towel gets and see whether it burns or catches fire. None did. Even so, we recommend placing space heaters at least three feet away from any flammable items like curtains, bedding or newspapers. Reporter and always plug directly into the socket. Dont use an extension cord. In another test, this dummy was loaded with sensors that help measure how fast the heaters can warm you up or spot heat. At, say, just your desk area. Some heaters could only raise the dummys temperature four degrees while the best could raise them much higher. Reporter among large heaters, this honeywell is excellent at spot heating and passed all of Consumer Reports safety tests. It costs 190. For far less, this compact holmes heater also passed the Consumer Reports safety tests and is a best mod. For 40, it can heat a room quickly, though its not quite as fast at spot heating. Be aware that one space heater was recently recalled by the manufacturer. Its the whole room vortex heater from vornado. Model vh110. Its been blamed in 29 instances of overheating, melting including seven fires. It was sold in stores and online from june 2013 through may of this year. In marysville, washington, friday, there were four people shot before the gunman killed himself. One girl died. Two other victims have been confirmed as his cousins. Some students ran after while others froze in place. They watched as firstyear social studies teacher megan silver berger ran at the shooter to protect the kids. She, like, grabbed his arm, hand on hand. It happened in seconds. Authorities are not sure what led to the shooting. They dont believe it was random. The victims were his friends and family. Students say he just broke up with a girlfriend and recently got into a fight at football practice. In canada, former members of the armed forces held simultaneous vigils in honor of a soldier killed by a gunman last week. Corporal Nathan Cirillo was shot to death while standing in ceremonial watch at the Parliament Building in ottawa. Yesterday in toronto, veterans stood in salute next to old city hall. And in calgary, they paid tribute at central memorial park. Illinois is now joining new york and new jersey in quarantining travelers who have had contact with ebola patients in west africa. Preliminary tests on a nurse who worked in sierra leone came up negative. Officials at a new jersey hospital arent saying if she can leave. Abc News Reporter Richard Cantu has the latest. Reporter the Health Care Worker was stopped at Newark Liberty International Airport friday as she returned from caring for ebola patients in west africa. She was isolated here at University Hospital in newark and tested negative for ebola. The woman was the first to be quarantined under a tough new policy in new york and new jersey. The governors of both states have joined forces to go above and beyond current federal ebola protocols. New york and new jersey imposing a mandatory quarantine for any individual who had direct contact with someone infected. Voluntary quarantine. No. The stakes are just too high. To count on people to do it. Reporter people some say like dr. Craig spencer. Hes a doctor and even he didnt follow the guidelines for the quarantine. Reporter now isolated with ebola in new yorks bellevue hospital, dr. Spencer back from treating ebola patients in africa roamed the city freely for six days before being diagnosed on thursday. New yorks mayor bill de blasio ordered lunch at one of the restaurants spencer visited to help dispel public fear. Biorecovery workers have finished decontaminating his apartment. Happening today, world war ii airmen whose remains were found more than 60 years after he was shot down over germany will finally be laid to rest. Lieutenant billy cook will be buried with full honors at a cemetery in oakland. The berkeley grad was on a mission in december 1944 when he and his crew were shot down over germany. The crew and their bomber were not recovered until two years ago. Happening now, this morning protesters are converging at the port of oakland in an attempt to block an israeliowned cargo ship from unloading. Youre looking at video of a previous ship forced to turn around in august due to similar protests. Residents living near an active lava flow have been told to be ready to leave. Molten lava has oozed across a country road and is moving closer to homes. Officials have been going door to door to keep residents informed of the movement. Kilauea island has been erupting continuously since 1983 but the current lava flow threatening residents began in june. Its designed to be another access point for the students in terms of picking up their food and their lunch. We all know that students have a hard time learning. And one of the main objectives is this whole project and program is to get students excited about eating and wanting to not skip lunch. They dont skip breakfast. Reporter this will be the model for future lunchrooms in the school district. It also has a monitor with subtle messages like how eating a sweet potato is rich in vitamins a and c and where it was first grown. Understand where the food comes from. Why theyre eating it. What it does for the body. Reporter all around them, there are boards to promote Student Activities in spanish and chinese. The wall graphics also remind them how to recycle or compost.
