At a time when they should be enjoying the end of their spring studies, instead they solumnly are paying respects to the victims of a mass shooting. I was shocked about this. I dont know what to say. It is so surreal. We hear about it happening to other schools and i never would have thought it would happen to our school. It definitely is very hurting. This crowd includes students from u. C. Santa barbara where many of the victims went to school and Santa Barbara city college where the accused shooter was enrolled. Investigators reveal new details about 22yearold Elliot Rogers rampage. It spread across ten different crime scenes, starting at his own apartment. It appears as though suspect rodger murdered three victims within his residence. Investigators say rodger went on to a Sorority House armed with three handguns. He was not let in so he started shooting people in the street. Two young people were killed, a third injured and remains hospitalized. At the deli mart a memorial. It was candles for the victims. This is where 20yearold martinez were killed and where the first 911 calls for help were made. Deputies engaged him within minutes. Shot fired, shot fired . After an exchange with deputies, it was over. He was found dead. He was found dead in his bmw. It was not clear if he took his own life or if he was mortally wounded by deputies. Victims were stunned. Im in shock. I was here when the shots started going off. Its clear people here are still trying to grasp exactly what happened as the shooter went on a rampage. In isla vista, abc7 news. The terror was captured on Surveillance Video at the deli mart, one of the ten crime scenes. You can see people running for cover when the gunman began firing. Several people were shot here, one fatally. Three of the victims have been identified. Veronika weiss died, katie cooper, 22, both were sorority sisters. And 20yearold Christopher Michael martinez, a secondyear student the Santa Barbara. His father, richard, talked with christopher just about 45 minutes before he died. You dont think it will happen to your child until it does. Chris died because of craven, irresponsible politicians and they talk about gun rights. What about chris right to live . When will this insanity stop . Six victims are still hospitalized. Two remain in serious condition. One of those injured in the Santa Barbara rampage is a 19yearold university of pacific student who lives in danville. Abc7 News ReporterLeslie Brinkley spoke to his family. The 19yearold water polo star was happy to be hanging out with friends for the start of customer vacation. His dad said they went out to celebrate and get something to eat friday evening. Nick told cnn there was a guy driving a bmw. I was on a long board and he aimed his car at our group of friends and gunned it into it. I have two broken legs and need surgery. Police said i flew roughly 50 feet into a busy intersection. This is all so crazy. His dad got the dreaded phone call saturday from his friend. The left leg was shattered like a firecracker. His right leg or right ankle, as we understand it right now, is broken. He has fractures to his face. It will be a long recovery for him. But he is alive. Six people arent. His family attorney said he was diagnosed with highly functional asberger syndrome, which is a form of autism, often associated with people who have problems with social situations. In january of this year he accused a roommate of stealing three candles and made a citizens arrest. Then less than a month ago family members asked them to check on him after his parents discovered his youtube videos. We when deputies went to his apartment, they determined he didnt meet the criteria for a Mental Health hold. The deputies contacted the suspect at the time. They found him to be polite and courteous. He downplayed the concerns for his welfare and the deputies cleared the call. Rogers told deputies he was having difficulties with his social life and probably wouldnt be returning to school in the next year. In a rambling online manifesto entitled my twisted life, rodger described his fear, saying the police would have searched my room, found all of my guns and weapons, along with my writings about what i plan to do with them. I would have been thrown in jail, denied of the chance to exact revenge on my enemies. Abc7 news. Fire crews rushed to the scene as a precaution. No one was injured. A group of boaters had to abandon ship after it hit a whale. The five people on board told the San Mateo CountySheriffs Office they were boating five to ten miles offshore when they felt the vessel hit a whale. The motor stopped working and they drifted into the rocks at the beach. Now the Sheriffs Office and a salvage team are working to get the boat off the rocks. Witnesses say the shooter aimed at will. The moments of terror captured on this Surveillance Video at the deli mart. This was a chaotic, rapidly unfolding and convoluted incident that involved multiple crime scenes. Police say it all began at the apartment of suspect elliot roger, a 22yearold student at Santa Barbara city college, stabbing three people to death in his home. The classes i think i work hardest in are ones i find myself intellectually engaged and courses that normally wouldnt come easy to me. She earned a 3. 98 grade point average, but the University Medal is also given to students whose ideas benefit others. The latino communities are disproportionately impacted. Most recently she worked in salinas to bring awareness to the nitrate contamination problem in the Drinking Water supply that affects so many families there. Peters has made it her passion to work on water and sanitation project in several countries. She also speaks openly with another issue, her bout with depression.
