Police board a plane and escort a man off a jet blue flight. Nick smith has this story that you will only see on abc7 news. He said if a plane is going to go down, this lane is going to be destroyed. Thats what one passenger told us he heard a man overhear him scream during a jet blue flight 1136. He said is so loud and buoyant, that he caught my attention. He spoke with the passenger, alex alexander, who caught part of the scary and confusing moments on my smartphone. My hands were shaky, my heart was racing. The flight was in route to sfo from long beach. Patrick said as soon as the flight crew became aware of the threat, they called Airport Security who had police meet the plane when it landed. Take a look. Officers board the plane and immediately identify and escort the passenger off the plane. Why are you taking the guy off the plane and maybe the threat is still on the plane . And the rest of the passengers had to stay on board. The flight was delayed for about 45 minutes. Officials have not identified the passenger and there have been no reports of injuries. At sfo, nick smith, abc7 news. Now to the latest in shooting at lax, Gerardo Hernandez is the first tsa agent to be killed in the line of duty. His sister said he was checking passports when he was shot. He died with from a gunshot wound to the chest. Hes survived by his wife, son and daughter. This morning we are learning more about the suspect, 23yearold unemployed mechanic paul ciancia. Federal prosecutors have already filed murder charges and he could face the death penalty. Police also believe someone dropped him off at the airport on friday. They want to find out who that was. Heres abc7 News Reporter alec stone with the latest. Several prosecutors have filed murder charges against the suspected gunmen in the deadly shooting at Los Angeles International airport of tsa officer Gerardo Hernandez and the wounding of four others. Saturday night, 100foot pylons were lit up over the airport in honor of him. His wife is distraught. I am truly devastated. We are all heartbroken and we will miss him dearly. Our hearts go out to the tsa officer who was shot and killed. Two more tsa officers were wounded when 23yearold paul ciancia took a rifle out of his bag friday morning and started firing. This video shows the ensuing mayhem. The fbi is just one of the agencies investigating the shooting. We found a statement where he made a conscious decision to make multiple tsa employees. And it could have been so much worse if officers had not chased the gun men through the airport terminal three. The fact they disabled the assailant within minutes was actually remarkable and saved untolled lives. Reporter ciancia was shot four times. He remains in the hospital and the hospital says he remains unresponsive. The airport, full of fear and chaos friday morning, returned to normal operation saturday afternoon. All lanes in richmond 580 are open this morning following a fatal crash. Authorities say a pedestrian was struck and killed just before 10 00 last night as he tried to run across the interstate near harbor way. An alert was issued a halfhour later while the chp investigated. It was lifted about 1 00 this morning. No word yet on the identity of the word who was killed. The incident remains under investigation. The chp is investigating the cause of a fatal crash near Stinson Beach yesterday. One person was killed after a car went off a cliff on highway 1 just before 4 30 p. M. That car, a red honda, had been reported stolen out of vallejo. The driver was the only one in the car. Friends and family of a santa rosa teenager who was shot and killed by a sheriffs deputy gathered to thank the community for their support. 13yearold andy lopez was shot on the 22nd holding an air rifle that looked like an ax48 assault rifle. Reporter as candles were arranged and a cross was adjusted for the growing memorial for 13yearold andy lopez, it was not lost on a few people here that this day marks the day of the dead. Every 1st and 2nd of november you come and celebrate the dead, or the loved ones of that passed away. Andy lopez parents were here a few hours. They left just before sunset. They did not want to speak on camera, but they said they will have an announcement on monday. They will join their team of attorneys to announce a federal lawsuit against the Sonoma County sheriffs department. Organizers say they had no connection of connecting the 13yearold death to the day, they just wanted to support the lopez family. Everyone wants to be here remembering andy. Thats all it is. We dont want it talk about what happened to andy or anything like that. We just want to remember him. A lopez family attorney said the 13yearold has not been laid to rest because his parents have been waiting for his grandmother to arrive from mexico. Police are searching for a gunman who robbed customers at a San Francisco hair salon yesterday. It happened just before noon at the pampered girl salon on gulf street in hayes valley. Three customers were getting their hair and nails done when they busted inside taking money, smartphones and tablets. Police say robberies in the hayes neighborhood are rare in that neighborhood. San jose police are searching for a mentally handicapped man who has been missing since friday. 54yearold man was last seen around 3 30 on vine street. Authorities say conseco has a previous head injury that left him with diminished mental capacity. He walks a limp, he has a cane. Hes described at 58, 140 pounds with black air and a beard. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, white tshirt, black pants and flipflops. In almeda county, sixteen agers have been rescued before getting lost hiking on Mission Peak Regional preserve. They say they got to the top of the peak and lost the trail heading back. We got on the wrong route so then we tried backtracking, but then it started getting dark and we lost the trail and we ended up in the field so we called the cops and here we are. More than a year after 17yearold Trayvon Martin was fatally shot by Neighborhood Watch volunteer george zimmerman, the city where it happened, sanford, florida, is rolling out a revamped Neighborhood Watch program. The Sanford Police department will outline the changes tuesday during a community meeting. Revisions include restricting volunteers from carrying firearms, and from pursuing suspects. Zimmerman was acquitted of a Second Degree murder charge back in july. The cal palace in daly city is expected to be packed again today with people attending one of the countrys biggest gun shows. What the faa didnt make clear is whether video calls are whether video calls are used while on airplanes. Most of the airplanes cant support video chat, whether its facetime or other video services. So if you use that, you slow down the experience for everybody. And on some systems you may even be booted off. One passenger wonders if more devices will be carried on board . Police in salinas are looking for someone who put lsd in some candy that sent a woman to the hospital. Authorities believe a small hole in a snickers wrapper is where a needle was used to inject the acid. You see the hole right there. The woman ate the candy thursday night while trickortreating with her children. She immediately felt she was having an anxiety attack. The candy had been given to the womans 16monthold daughter. Im michael finney, 7 on your side. Some athletes are now turning down the thermostat to help them recover from their workout. They are using a new technology called full body cryotherapy which employ he is ultracold to affect the body. Science reporter Carolyn Johnson has the details. It may look like a sauna but its actually reverse. A super cold treatment known as cryotherapy. The coowner said the treatment originated in japan in the 1970 for rheumatoid arthritis. You you spend two or three minutes down in this cold sauna. This takes skin temperatures down to 30 degrees fahrenheit. So cold that they wear protective clothing. Gloves, socks, underwear and earmuffs. Like standing outside in the snow with shorts and a tank top on. It allowed this woman to return to exercise, despite arthritis. Im able to do my water arobics and yoga. Cold has become a hot topic in sports medicine. Some experts now believe lowering an athletes body immediately after exercise can speed up recover and lessen the pain associated with exercise. But the biology is complicated and theres debate over how different methods of cooling actually effect the body. This physical therapist has worked with the Cryotherapy Chamber and said hes seen results. We really want to get all that inflammatory processing going and get it moving along and getting it out. With the cold it really is that. Does that. Others are more cautious. Craig heller, stanford biologist, helped develop a deadvice that drains heats from the palms of athletes hands called core control. It is now commercialized. Ice baths can accomplish the same benefits, but hes skeptical of the short time used in the cryotherapy sauna. Just a few minutes in very cold air or gas is not going to do much to lower your body temperature. He does believe the reaction to the short bursts of cold will undoubtedly produce a shock to the system, and supporters believe the bodys reaction to that stimulus alone also produce as benefit. The body interprets that as pain, so to counteract it it releases endorphins. The cryosauna has not been evaluated by the fda and the agency doesnt offer any advice on its use or effectiveness. You will notice that with higher pressure building in, thats why we do have the wind. But the next couple of days look what happens. The systems move to the north. We do stay dry. In fact, we will warm up a little bit through the middle of the week. The next system coming in by thursday, still to the north of us.
