Every day thousand of tech workers board busses in San Francisco headed to work at companies in Silicon Valley. But lately Something Else is happening. Silicon valley is creeping north toward San Francisco. Johnathan bloom has more on the trend. 11 00 in the morning and a gaggle of young techies and entrepreneurs are making their way up San Franciscos market street, led by a guy in an astronaught suit. No one seems to mind they are drinking beer right in the middle of the workday. They walk right into the office and start making friends. Despite the outfit, he doesnt work for national saw. Hes a guy who runs the group thats like speed dating for startup. But this is different. Its a new tech crawl. Its much in the theme of a pub crawl. Making their way from one startup to the next, the coders and entrepreneurs are witnessing a new trend. New businesses that used to start in Silicon Valley are now sprouting up in San Francisco. The number of companies funded in Silicon Valley is going down and the number of startnewspaper businesses in fran is going up. Its so pronounced, after 30 years sigma west packed up and moved to San Francisco. More than half of the deals in Silicon Valley, the larger Silicon Valley, are done in San Francisco. You could say San Francisco has become the capitol of Silicon Valley. And when it comes to why, they dont sugar coat it. Everyone wants to be in the city. In the valley theres a lot of great work being done, but its almost boring. You can almost hear the sucking noise of people leaving there and coming to San Francisco. Part of the trend is shared workplaces like this one. Places where startups work shoulder to shoulders in with startups. We dont want to just be a space, we want to be a place for people to get together. A place to play pingpong and maybe meet your new cofounder. With all these great people and things happening in the small, concentrated area, you have the opportunity for little sparks spoke fly that wouldnt happen otherwise. The city has taken notice and the Mayors Office is partly responsible for the new tech crawl, and you can bet another one is just around the corner. Today we are a little bit above normal. We will be dry for the end of the month. Halloween thursday, trickortreaters. Sunny in the afternoon but cool at night. The first system that brought us the higher clouds over the past couple of days, it is continuing to sink south. So higher pressure continues to bring us a sunny and mild afternoon. We will be looking at an area of low pressure tonight. What that will do, it will increase the pressure gradient, bring gusty winds for the second half of the weekend, manically tomorrow evening. But by more than look how close the rain is. In fact it is right over parts of the bay area. So we are looking at a chance of showers, big time cooling on monday and perhaps snow in the sierra nevada. Snow levels down to 5,000 feet. They are anticipating snow for the mountains of southern california. We definitely have changes to begin the week. But today the 80s in sacramento. 82 there. 81 chico. Could see an 80 around here. We didnt see yesterday. 68 in monterey. Dense fog this morning in southern california. But then 81 degrees for los angeles. So temperatures will be in the upper 60s here. Half moon bay, 72. San mateo with 76. In san jose and santa cruz up in the north bay perhaps an 80degree temperature. Tomorrow for the raiders look for temperatures in the low to mid60s. A nice afternoon. The look ahead a couple degrees cooler, breezy winds for the second half of the weekend. A slight chance of showers. Only 50s and 60s monday. Barely any warmup on wednesday. Dry thursday and friday. If we see rain it will not help us out too much. And we wont see it on halloween so thats kind of good news. Right. Thank, lessa. In sports, all three bay area football teams are bat in action today. San jose state hosts wyoming. Sixth ranked stanford takes on number 25 oregon state and cal plays at husky stadium. The warriors have one less worry before their opener wednesday night. It paid off big because now hes a budding superstar in the nba. Golden state has taken the exact same approach with andrew bogut. The injuryplagued center gets a threeyear, extension a few days before the start of a new season. Could be worth up to 42 million with incentives. The warriors are banking on a lot more of the same going forward. Heres general manager bob myers on the decision to lock up bogut, who was entering final year of his contract. They practiced yesterday at a rugby stadium. For a moment we saw the lighter side of coach jim harbaugh who ran down the list of sightseeing spots they were visiting. Marble arch, park lane, high park corner, buckingham palace, parliament square, ten downing street, and a square. Do you think we were hitting the right spots . I think he got them. Stanford will be without their wide receiver devin kajust tonight at oregon state. A big loss. Kajust emerged as a nice compliment. Toty montgomery in the cashed natural passing attack. He suffered a knee injury and hes not going to be able to go begins the beavers. David shaw knows this will be a difficult road challenge. It will be loud, it will be an electric environment. They are playing great football. Their fans are outstanding. They know when to cheer, when not to cheer. They will make it hard on us. But the bottom line there are two really good football teams playing in prime time. We have a doubleheader on apc7 today. 12 30 n. C. State taking on number two florida state. And 5 00 penn state facing undefeated ohio state. Hope to see you after the game. Have a great weekend, everybody. Im larry beil.
