An Early Morning fire that lit up the sky. The four alarm fire broke out in an apartment complex under construction on valdez street at 24th street in oakland near broadway around 4 30 this morning. We have Team Coverage starting with abc 7 News Reporter. Reporter a press conference just wrapped up here about 45 minutes ago. The deputy fire chief just confirmed that all people were accounted for in this fire. All pets were accounted for. Behind me you see that building, that construction site where it all happened. Neighboring homes and businesses next to it did sustain some damage. They are figuring out how to get the crane out of there and dousing hot spots. At 4 30 in the morning an under construction apartment formed an enormous fire. They forced a defensive stance because the crane took on heat which caused it to spin wildly. The scaffolding collapsed into the street below prompting urgent evacuations at nearby buildings. Were not seeing its suspicious. Were asking anyone that may have information to be helpful to come forward and share information. Reporter federal and local arson investigators are on the ground looking into First Responders reports that the fire billowed out ward from the center of the building. By noon take a look from drone view 7. Ladder truck still attacking the blaze from all angles. Ash, soot and smoke still coming from the center. Thats question thats foremost on everyones mind is was this arson . Its the fourth construction site fire in a year. We know that two recent fires on the emoryville oakland border were confirmed as arson. Thats incredibly disconcerting to us. Were brinking all resources to bear to investigate and well be working to beef up our prevention efforts around any type of illegal activity or arson that might be a threat. Reporter after eight months of construction the alto building would have soon provided 196 market rate apartment and 31,000 square feet of retail space. Now its all gone.
