Reporter this is a tragic accident here on school property. A woman who was an aide, an instructional aide, we are told, was standing right here on the sidewalk. A white suv in the faculty parking lot back here suddenly accelerated, crashing through a gate that was across here. That gate smashed onto the woman. The suv ran her over. The gate crushed her. Thats where they ended up across the street. She was very seriously injured. We can show you a shot from above of Oakland High School via sky 7. This happened at 1 40 this afternoon. Students and staff witnessed the accident. Police are here right now taking statements. As i said, the woman suffered major internal injuries. She is in surgery, we are told, right now at high land hospital. As for the driver, the witnesses say it was a woman and may have been another school employee, investigators were looking into what happened. It does appear as though the person who was driving the vehicle was trying to move it, possibly trying to back it up and one of two things happened. Either they hit the gas instead of the brake, or they hit drive instead of reverse. Again, a bizarre accident here on the backside of Oakland High School, just about an hour before school was dismissed today. Police tape was still across here. There are investigators on the scene. They are talking to witnesses. That suv, again, coming out of the faculty parking lot here, running over a woman standing on the sidewalk. She was an instructional aide at the school. Police say potentially toxic heroin is to blame for a spike in the santa rosa area. The Corners Office reports five deaths in the last ten days. Officers warning all health and Treatment Centers about heroin and advises them to take signs of overdoses seriously. In Sonoma County a mother is accused of drunk driving after getting into a crash with her baby in the car. It happened on southbound 101 Near West Side road last night. The womans jeep hit a barrier and veered across the lanes. Another car then crashed into the jeep. Her baby girl was rushed to Childrens Hospital in oakland. Thankfully her injuries are not critical. The mother remains in the Sonoma County jail on 100,000 bond. A damaging report from the state auditor has lawmakers in sacramento demanding moreover site of the university of californias finances. Regents overwhelmingly approved a moderate tuition hike, but unbeknownst to students, the state auditor was keeping tabs on the u. C. s budget. I wish i could say i was shocked. Reporter he ripped u. C. For keeping 175 million in an undisclosed fund. Those funds were saved because the u. C. S spent less money than anticipated, yet asked the state for budget increases. It also created a secret budget to spend only some of the reserve funds, and included in that secret fund were 32 million from a campuswide annual charge. The audit report says money that should have gone to students. Im surprised they thought they could get away with it. But i guess until the auditors found out. Reporter no one from the office of the president was willing to talk to us. Instead, in a letter dated april fifth, president Janet Napolitano stated the true amount of available and uncommitted reserve is 38 million. The rest are either restricted funds or have been earmarked to academic programs and other campus commitments. Other revelations include salaries within the office of the president were higher than comparable state employee salaries. The office spent nearly 22 million over five years on Employee Benefits which are not typical to the public sector. And Staffing Levels were higher than at other comparable public universities. We are going to get scraped by the outer fringe of this storm system. And thats going to bring about a chance for a little bit of drizzle.
