They are created by 15 bay area teens with the center for the arts. Young artists learned about the access some neighborhoods have to fresh fruits and vegetables. Then they got to work making these banners which replace alcohol and cigarette ads. We have actual water colored fruits and vegetables. The texture and the materiality of those objects are very different than the other advertising that youre seeing. So, its a novel way of thinking about fruits and vegetables. So far five stores in the tenderloin have gotten rid of their alcohol ads and replaced them with these healthy awesome food images. That reinforces that style of living and healthy eating.
