We are learning that bulldozer operator killed this week in the fire in Monterey County was a father two of from the fresno area. 35yearold Robert Reagan was crushed by the dozer when it rolled over on him. He was building containment lines in the front against the fire. Right now that wildfire is threatening 2,000 homes. The fire burned 27,000 acres. Its just 10 contained still. The fire has destroyed 34 buildings, many of them houses. The fire has a lot of people cancelling plans to visit big sur during the usually busy tourist season. Oakland police today announced they arrested the man responsible for shooting at a Police Officer near 73rd avenue last weekend. They arrested four others for a murder earlier this month. You cant miss the shrine to Anthony Stephens on the corner of 92nd avenue in east oakland. He was killed here july 9th. Thats when five young men violently assaulted him and shot him to death as he sat in a parked car. Five suspects who we found to be a part of or associated with kind of the hybrid gang known as the five finger mafia. Reporter today police announced they arrested four of the five suspects and have charged them with murder. The fifth suspect Tyrone Terrell is at lashlg. And then police announced another arrest. This time for shooting at a uniformed oakland Police Officer who was trapped in her patrol car last weekend after being struck by another vehicle in an accident. The suspect walked up and fired one shot at her. Opd tracked the suspect to stockton where overnight he surrendered after a long standoff with a s. W. A. T. Team. A fire arm that we believe or is consistent with the firearm that was used on the night of the diincident was recovered. Opd continues to do an enormous amount of work to keep the citizens of oakland safe. He was found guilty in 2010 but granted a new trial last year after the discovery that a key prosecution witness had lied. Levys disappearance made headlines in 2001. She was romantically linked with gary condit zblchl police are on the lookout for a man who tried to kidnap a woman. Police released a detailed sketch of the suspect. It happened at 7 45 this morning on washington avenue near floresta boulevard. The woman was walking to work when a stranger approached. Again, she told police the man pepper sprayed her, knocked her to the ground, then started dragging her into a car. A passer by jumped out of his car and grabbed the would be kidnapper who then pepper sprayed him. The kidnapper drove away. She actually felt her feet enter the car. So it was that close to him getting her into the car and leaving and i truly think that if youre this braiat brazen to that attack in broad daylight, it could have been a tragedy. A convicted rapist and former Police Officer declined his own parole after finding out the son he molested for years committed suicide. 63yearold Ron Roy Charles has served 27 years in the 75year sentence for raping his son and stepdaughter in the 1980s. Today he unexpectedly declined an offer for parole after learning his son killed himself 14 years ago. The District Attorneys Office fought the release saying he had a high risk for reoffending. Onest people injured yesterday in the violent rear end crash in pittsburgh died. Police say a black chevy truck ran a red light and slammed into two vehicles including the silver honda minivan. Four people were rescued out of the badly mangled van. One of them a 59yearold woman from pittsburgh was conscious and alert after the accident. But she died hours later at the hospital from internal injuries. Three others were treat ford minor injuries. Lets move on to some consumer news. Could your flooring be making you sick . Formaldehyde is a colorless gas found in several household products. Its ubiquitous. Yeah, formaldehyde is a human carcinogen by the world health organization. You may remember it was in the news last year quite a bit when some lamb nant flooring from lumber lick dateors was reported to emit worrisome levels of formaldehyde. Now Consumer Reports has tested a variety of flooring and has this test and advice. Lamb nant flooring is less expensive than solid wood but there are concerns that flooring emits formaldehyde. Consumer reports bought a variety of wood based flooring products and ran lab tests over the past year. It was a small study. But we did find that laminant had higher formaldehyde emissions. If youre putting in new flooring, Consumer Reports says prefinished solid Wood Flooring is a better choice for reducing formaldehyde exposure, if you had laminant flooring for several years, there is less cause for concern because formaldehyde is a volatile chemical that displates over time. The problem is lots of products can emit the formaldehyde, especially when their new. Permanent pre permanent fabric, plywood, particle boards and cigarettes all can emit formaldehyde. To lower the lefldz, lower windows, wash permanent prosed clothing and curtains before using. Choose Wood Furniture without formaldehyde containing gluz and ban indoor smoking.
