San Francisco Police did make four felony arrests last night for fireworks, guns and drugs. Investigators say illegal fireworks started a house fire in vallejo. It started around 1 15 this morning. The fire caused about 100,000 in damage. One family is displaced. Nobody was hurt. Fireworks are illegal in vallejo. Fireworks may have also caused a fiveacre blaze in oakley last night. Pg e shut off power lines as they put out a fire on honey lane. Two people went to the hospital with smoke inhalation. Residents got pets out safely as they cleared the area. A bay area veteran needs help finding her service dog. Here is a picture of leo. Reporter todays search for leo ended just a couple of hours ago. Searchers used a boat to cruise the waters off Sherman Island in the delta but unfortunately leo was nowhere in it sight. This, of course, has been devastating for the dogsitter and leos owner, both of whom share a special bond with the dog. It was a perfect july fourth weekend. Sunday and chris peterson, an iraq veteran, was on a camping trip on lower Sherman Island. Having a barbecue and swimming in the river and fishing and stuff. Reporter he was dogsitting leo, a 4yearold golden chow mix. He belongs to his buddy, a combat veteran to served in the second iraq war. A veteran who suffers from severe ptsd. We spoke with bill, who is on a trip to texas, by skype. She said leo is a therapy dog who makes her life liveable, who helps her through her anxiety attacks. He will whine at me. Saying, mom, step back and im going to ground you and im here to keep you in the moment. Reporter sunday afternoon, leo suddenly vanished. Leo wandered off. And were concerned he may have been spooked by fireworks. As a therapy dog, he is trained to trigger on things that could be a cause for a ptsd response. Reporter petersonson and his fiance searched sunday until sunset and all day yesterday using a boat to comb the waters off the island. Were hoping somebody has seen him or has him or pulled him out of a river in a boat. Bill couldnt afford the 2,000 to take inland empire earlier flight. Shell be back tomorrow. Vic lee, abc 7 news. Many families may be looking for pets today after the fourth of july. Abc 7 news was at the Peninsula Humane Society and spca today. The shelter took in at least 16 stray dogs last night. Three times more than normal compared to an average weekend. More dogs and cats are likely out wandering. Animals are terrified of the fireworks and they run off and some become lost. Our job is to get them home. Some of them come in with a little bit of injury, certainly some emotional trauma, we try to make them feel better. But the real key here is getting them back to their families. The shelter said this is a great reminder to have i. D. Tags on your animal or get them microchips. A woman manned to escape after someone through a fire cracker into her car in the Bay View District at 9 30 at keith street. The woman was driving a nissan altima. The crews put out the fire and took the woman to the hospital. The person who threw the fireworks has not been caught. Illegal fireworks caused problems throughout the bay area. They are expected to have caused a fire in the south bay. A palm tree and brush burned last night near a home. San jose police say they stepped up efforts efforts for illegal fireworks three weeks before the holiday. We feel like this year is a success although there were still a lot of fireworks complaints in the city we hope to improve on that in the future. Police say during the threeweek fireworks Enforcement Effort leading up to the fourth of july, san jose got 80 calls and issued 16 citations. Yesterday alone officers issued 12 more citations. Police say two people suffered injured in fireworksrelated incidents, including one serious injury. Authorities have charged an oakland man who, quote, felt google was watching him. He set one of the companys street vehicles on fire. Police arrested the man on the google campus in Mountain View on june 30th and they say they found firearms and items to make a pipe bomb in his car. Police say he admitted he shot through an office window. Officers say he planned to shoot into another google building because google, was, quote, watching him and that made him upset. Uc berkeley honored one of the students killed in the bangladesh attack. The death toll has risen to 250. Tarisha jain just finished her freshman year at cal and remembered as a student who wanted to do more for those less fortunate. We have more. One of the best things that comes out of a tragic situation is seeing how much people come together and support one another. She wanted to major in economics but shell be most remembered for her volunteer work as she wanted to improve the lives of those who wants to succeed. We have committed to trying to figure out how to carve a future and some relationship to Economic Development and bangladesh. She was one of 20 foreign hostages killed in a cafe in dhaka. Most were hacked to death for not being able to recite the koran. While isis and al qaeda claimed responsibility, the government there continues to deny their involvement. What hurts the most is what happened to her, it wasnt an accident. Someone did it on purpose and it troubles me that she just wanted to help her community and other people. Even though we are all so sad at this moment, i think the fact that we all feel this hard about her is a testament to who she is. But for some reason he got ahold of a gun yesterday and fired it toward his head. An hour later, he was dead when police shot him. My son is gone. [ crying ] reporter her words, her emotion convey the hurt Sandy Sanchez is feeling. It was late on monday afternoon when San Jose Police were called to the house because someone inside was despondent. It was the 18yearold nunez who had grazed his head when police say he pointed a handgun at his head. The officers were approaching on scene and the subject came out of the resident and the officers did not want to force a confrontation which is why they retreated and why in these instances quite frankly time is on our side and they wanted to slow it down and they did a good job of doing that. Reporter officers spent 14 minutes trying to convince him to give himself up. When nunez pointed the gun at officers, two officers with rifles across the street shot him and he died later at the hospital. Why couldnt they taser him or do something and why have to shoot to kill . Why . Reporter as they mourn, relatives of the popular young man are hearing from neighbors they believe nunez was not armed and the neighbors would not answer the door. How do me know he was not armed. I believe they were all in their houses. They did not evacuate. So they could see through the windows. Yes. The body cameras were not issued yet in san jose. They should have let the family talk him out of it. If they they didnt let us come close to talk to him, it could have been prevented. You see the bus down there right now. We understand there are injuries. My say they called five ambulances to the scene. They do believe that the injuries are minor and no word on how many people may have been hurt but it could be as many as nine people. Again, eastbound on 80, by pinole valley road and as many as five ambulances being called to the scene and that bus appears to be involved. No word on what caused the crash. Traffic is slow in the area so avoid that going eastbound if you can at this point because as sky 7 hd pulls back you could see that we are seeing a significant traffic backing up to carlston boulevard so that could be a delay of up to 80 minutes.
