Agents posing as customers say they found a pattern of fraud at those stores around the bay area. To try to get the vehicle and the consumer to do a repair on the car that wasnt necessary. Reporter state documents show they sold a range of Unnecessary Services adding as much as 240 to the bill. Under a settlement with the state, 31 jiffy lubes, including stores in eight bay area counties, will be suspended for five days. That means they can only perform minor services not regulated by the bureau of auto repair. The franchise is also being fined 220,000 and will be on problems for three years. Fraud is a very big concern for the bureau because that is actual theft from consumers. Reporter the second undercover sting focused on Firestone Stores. This one tried to sell Unnecessary Services ranging from 70 to 2,600. The state settlement in this case also calls for a fiveday suspension. 21 other california firestones, including six in the bay area, will be on problems for two years. They were accused of selling but not installing important safety features on new tires. Firestone is being fined 83,000 to cover the cost of the investigation. All of the suspensions go into effect july 14th. Both firestone and jiffy lube declined to comment on the settlements. But we posted their past statements at abc7news. Com. East Palo Alto Police have arrested a man accused of sexual assaulting a woman he offered to drive home. Police used dna evidence found on the victim to link the 21yearold Victor Marquez to the february attack. Investigators ran the dna through the states data base. The department of Public Health collected data during the 2015 fall semester, showing that nearly 93 of children in kindergarten received the required vaccine, up from the previous years. The new Research Found that ozone depleting gases peaked in the late 1990s and that led to the whole shrinking by 1. 5 million square miles. Every winter great white sharks meet at a spot between mexico and hawaii and scientists call it it the white shark cafe. One then the male sharks dive deep, again and again, sometimes up to 150 times a day. But researchers arent sure why. They think the sharks are either feeding or mating. Now some shark experts at the Monterey Bay Aquarium are developing a oneofakind camera to mount on to a shark to help track them this mysterious behavior. This viewer shared this video off pacifica showing three whales jumping out of the water very close to some surfers right there. Sky 7 hd was over the beach as one of the whales feasted on anchovies that is a very large mouth. Some are saying the whales are in the area for greater numbers in usual and some say they are drawn by plentiful food from the developing la nina weather pattern and others believe they were forced out of warmer waters where the food supply is running low.
