Reporter you can say one thing for sure, and that is the nfl works fast. Its crew ks have been out here digging holes. Theyve also had crews out here trying to convert this soccer field into a super bowl media village. This has angered so much the soccer community in santa clara, that soccer moms, dads and coaches are taking the nfl to court in the morning. Crews were digging holes first thing this morning. They were making a pattern of eight holes perot. T even though a Court Challenge by the Youth Soccer League is set for wednesday. The judge had made it clear while there was no tro in place, no temporary restraining order in place, that he would not be pleased if anything drastic occurred in the interim before the previously scheduled wednesday morning or sorry, wednesday afternoon hearing. Reporter the nfl told abc 7 news on friday that no digging on the field would be done, but this video contradicts that. The three soccer fields are to be used by a media village, security and event staging for the february 7th super bowl. It sure does look like it, that they think and the nfl may actually believe, too, that theyre above the junchdges request. Thats a poor misstep on their part. Reporter the agreement between the city and the nfl was signed only a few weeks ago displacing an estimated 6,000 young soccer players. In preparation for the conversion, about a dozen flatbed trucks arrived today loaded with pallets of turf cover which will be placed atop the soccer fields to protect them from the weight of equipment. Theyve had loads coming in from tennessee, louisiana, chicago area, the ones i done up in sycamore, illinois. The other big story tonight is the hunt for another coach for the San Francisco 49ers. Team owner jed york admitted hns been humbled an disastrous season that forced the firing of jim tomsula yesterday. Hes looking for a new head coach that can win super bowls. Were joined live at niners headquarters in santa lara. An apologetic jed today. No question. Very humbled by the season last year and one and done for jim tomsula, despite winning the seasonending game against the rams. Jed york addressed the media. He said he was humbled and knew what a tough road it was going to be for his head coach jim tomsula. He kept this Team Together and this locker room together this season under very difficult circumstances. For all of that, i thank him and i appreciate his efforts. Jed has received so much criticism from 49er fans and he understands why. This season was frustrating on a number of levels. We took a step back from our ultimate goal of winning a super bowl. For that, i want to apologize to our fans and for everybody that cares deeply about this team the way i do. Reporter he also admitted he didnt have all the answers. You have to learn from mistakes. You have to learn from failure. And we didnt get this one right. And we need to make sure that we get the next one right. Reporter general manager trent baalke will remain with the administration. The fire started around 10 30 inside a home on putnam street in madison court. Crews had it contained a short time later. Officials believe it started in a bedroom. One woman went to the hospital with Second Degree burns. The exact cause is under investigation. The chp is investigating a single car accident right off interstate 880 in san leandro. The driver lost control and ran over two road signs before running off the road. Witnesses say the car flew 30 feet into the air off the embang mnt. It happened on the westbound Marina Boulevard exit off of northbound 880. An ambulance took the driver to the hospital. The extent of his injuries are unknown. A berkeley teacher remains hospitalized tonight in Critical Condition. She was an innocent victim in a saturday night shootout at 22nd and cutting boulevard in richmond. Her students were told about that shooting today. Abc 7 reporter melanie wood row is live in berkeley tonight. Reporter a lot of sadness here. School administrators have described 52yearold claire dugan to me as a dedicated career teacher. And today, as you said, her students and their parents learned that shes in the hospital in Critical Condition. Educators say they did their best to explain to students as young as 9 years old their fourth grade teacher was hurt. The whole School Community is in pain over such a senseless shooting of dedicated career teacher. Reporter saturday night Richmond Police say 52yearold claire dugan was driving on the 2200 block of cutting boulevard when she was shot in her neck. Dugan crashed her vehicle. Detectives say they are still following up on leads. One thing they say they know for certain, dugan was an innocent victim. Its really unfortunate when this happens in any community, and it could have happened to any one of us. Reporter the shooting was the second in the area. Earlier saturday afternoon there was another shooting and collision on westbound i580. Investigators say the victim in that shooting who is also in Critical Condition appeared to be targeted. Detectives are still exploring whether the two shootings could be related. Hopefully all energy by the authorities is just going out to find whoever was responsible for this. Reporter she says her twin daughters are in dugans class. Its not a matter of it comes close to home. It is just a matter of it just happening, period. Reporter taylor says shes already spoken with her children about violence. Just help them with whatever emotion it is that theyre feeling. The 24yearolds sister left her brother alone in the trail wer the two dogs described as pit bull or pit bull mixes. The boy was in foster care but his sister was allowed to have overnight visits with him. Shes posted a series of youtube videos of her dogs showing how gentle they can be. The dogs will be euthanized if theyre deemed dangerous. No arrests in the case. Pg e is investigating what appears to be the first power outage in San Francisco that appears to be caused by a drone. Three homes in vernal heights lost power last night. We heard loud explosions. Reporter she says she and her neighbors believe this power pole at peralta neighborhood and hampshire street in vernal heights was hit by a drone just after 5 00 last night causing their lights to go out. Someone was flying a drone in the neighborhood. And lost it or it crashed. And they came over here looking for it. Reporter the federal Aviation Administration estimates 1 million americans received recreational drones for christmas. Now you can add them to kites and balloons as potential headaches for utilities like pg e. They could, in essence, cause not just a power outage but even a power line to come down and potentially a fire. Reporter for some in vernal heights like this family, the outage was more like a surge. Power went out for about 90 seconds, then everything came back on. Reporter pg e restored everyones power after two hours after replacing a second of the damaged line. These are the pictures a witness shared with us. The Utility Company looked for the drone but, like the neighbors, came up empty. The faa is trying to regulate the recreational drone boom by requiring owners to register models that weigh more than half a pound up to 55 pounds. Surveillance video shows a car pulling up to another vehicle and what happens next has left one family heart broken. Police in San Francisco are looking for two people who may have stolen a precious necklace from a 90yearold woman. And this story gets worse. It happened on christmas day. Abc 7 reporter Lyanne Melendez live with polk street. Reporter this family opened this store late this morning because they were at a flea market trying to find what was stolen from them. Their 90yearold mother doesnt understand why anybody would do this. She now spends most of her day searching for something that has always been a part of her life. These two tibetan necklaces that were stolen on christmas. Its sentimental value. Because when my mama left tibet 60 years ago, thats the only item she carried with her. So attached to it. Reporter on christmas her daughter, the owner of this Jewelry Store on polk street, was loading her van with some items. Loading the stuff. And its just like five to ten minutes. So i asked mama, can you watch this bag. Reporter in one of the bags were her mothers necklaces. This Surveillance Video shows a moment the car pulls up, the passenger gets out and reaches inside to grab the two bags, then they drive off. Mama is shouting. I said what happened, mama . It was just five minutes. Somebody took my bags. Reporter witnesses say they saw the driver of that car minutes before entering other stores. A surveillance camera managed to get this picture of him. To make matters worse, the 90yearold woman has dementia. She forgets what happened, and every five minutes shes looking for that, searching for that.
