It happened inside the courthouse in redwood city and they say just before the bailiff pulled the gun he and the custodian were talking about the Deadly Police shooting of walter scott in south carolina. Court was not in session at the time and the San Mateo CountySheriffs Department is conducting the investigation. The family of a man shot and killed by San Francisco police filed a federal civil rights lawsuit today, amylcarper ez lopez was killed when he approached officers with a knife. The results of an independent autopsy have shocked members of the community and they plan to join, and here they will march to the Mission Police station and then on to st. John the evangelist church. Reporter the parents of lopez spoke today via skype. Perez lopez worked two jobs and supported his family in guatemala. His mom and dad never thought their son would come home in a coffin. They truly want justice. Reporter according to police on february 26th, perez lopez got into a dispute over a bike and pulled out a knife. That knife the chief described what happened when undercover officers approached. The officers drew their weapons and demanded for the man to drop his knife. He refused and have several witnesses that heard this. Attorney Ronaldo Casillas has the account. They shot him on the sidewalk as he was moving toward the officers. And the results of the official autopsy have not yet been released and casillas says an independent autopsy shows four bullets entering perez lopezs back proving he was running away from police. If im charging you you cant shoot him in the back. They also told the investigator the undercover officers never identified themselves as police. Some residents of the mission fear perez lopezs death is part of a larger problem. Today casillas suv aired civil rights lawsuit with the u. S. Justice department. Thousands of orchards are being brought down from one end of the valley to the other. Stanislaus county luke wenger finished cutting down 20 acres so he can use his water allotment on his crop of younger, more productive trees. Theyre taking out 50 of what they have in order to irrigate the other 50 and there are other growers who were hit harder who are getting zero water and dont have anything. If there is a benefit from the drought thats allowing crews easier access to clean up trash in lake tahoe. Its several inches lower than normal and six feet below maximum capacity. Thats allowing volunteers to save lake tahoe that was likely dumped in the water. Last year it netted 170 pounds of crash. Because of the drought its making house calls.
