The flier went to vietnamese voters in 2010. Shirakawa had little to say today. I speak directly to them. But i was treated fairly today, thank you. Shirakawa has served seven months in jail for other crimes. The parents of audrie pott settled their lawsuit. Pott was a 15yearold student at saratoga high school. She killed herself after pictures were shared among some students. Leslie brinkley is live in san jose with details of that settlement that includes much more than money. Leslie . A case that made National Headlines of the dangers of teen drug use drinking and Sexual Assault and nude photographs. The settlement requires the two teens to pay a total of 950,000 to audrie potts parents and issue a formal apology to the judge which they did in court in person this morning. That apology included admitting that audrie was not conscious during the assault and admitting she did not give consent and admitting she did not invite or encourage sexual acts. Beyond that, they allude to her eventual suicide as they said i also apologized for false rumors that shamed and humiliated her. Not what any human being deserves what we put audrie through. Had this gone to trial, it would have been a very difficult thing to watch. It would have been particularly difficult for the defense because they had admitted to the wrongdoing in court. They had already committed crimes and had pled guilty to them. Theres no question that very unflattering testimony would have come out. It would have been very difficult for the defense. Im not surprised there was a settlement. Reporter another teen settled out of court last month, as well. The boys also agreed to appear in a documentary and to give presentations at high schools about the dangers of drugs alcohol and sexting. Now, audries family declined to be interviewed but they did issue a statement saying theyre relieved that audries name has been cleared and now they want to focus their efforts on programs to build awareness about Sexual Assault and communication, texting, sexting amongst teenagers. The families of six children have filed suit against dena holder and administrators with the Brentwood School district. The suit claims the school failed to alert the community that holder was a convicted child abuser, thus allowing her to abuse their kids. Students ages 3 to 6 years old and each had limited ability to communicate. The School District had settled two previous lawsuits involving holder who pleaded no contest to child abuse in 2012. Local and federal authorities are now investigating the deadly crash of an ultralight aircraft near petaluma today. The plane, an experimental plane called a quick silver 1042 went down in a field not far from the adobe creek golf course around 12 30 this afternoon. The pilot was found dead inside the aircraft. The pilots identity has not been released. No word yet as to where the plane was headed or coming from. But the crash happened about five miles from petaluma municipal airport. A Hazardous Materials crew is in the process of cleaning up meth labs found in a san hojose apartment. Officers discovered materials and chemicals consistent with the lab this morning after neighbors reported a strong odor. No one was in the apartment on cherry lane in the willow glen neighborhood. Thats a lot of money, david. That is a lot of money, larry. No matter where you live. Sometimes it takes social engineering to get people to comply and a fine certainly gets peoples attention. But here in santa cruz if you get a fine, you can get it forgiven if you attend a class and pass a test. A mandatory stage 3 water emergency will put santa cruz back where it was about a year ago asking people this time to cut back 25 . Last year customers exceeded a 20 goal by 10 . The district offered plenty of shower time monitors, for example. But it also imposed 1. 4 million in fines. However, violators are given an option to take a water class similar to traffic class for tickets. Its an option of paying a fine or attending a class. Many people were motivated to attend a class instead. Reporter the fines start at 100 for a second offense 250 a third time and 500 the fourth time. Penalties are also imposed for excessive water use. But still may be an appeal because of the added cost of treating a prisoner. Abc 7 News Reporter katie explains why the judge ruled in favor of the inmate. Reporter michelle is transgender and incarcerated at californias mule creek prison. But the legal battle the 51yearold will be known for her is not her conviction for Second Degree murder. This decision is historic in that it confirms that its unlawful to deny treatment to transgender people. Reporter the Transgender Law Center represents who was born jeffrey and entered prison as a man and now identifies as a woman. A psychologist diagnosed her with gender dysphoria, as explained by Law Center Board member sean demins. When i look in the mirror to see me, right, so having access to hormain replace therapy is very important for that. Reporter in Court Records her doctor says that sex reassignment surgery is a clinical and medical necessity for her health and well being. But surgery didnt happen. This procedure has never been performed in the california prison system. So, it would be the first of its kind in california. Reporter the case made it to u. S. The California Department of correction rehabilitation must provide her access to adequate medical care including sex reassignment surgery as promptly as possible.
