For the first time the officer who pulled the trigger killing Michael Brown is talking about the shooting. Abc news anchor George Stephanopoulos is in the st. Louis area with the first on camera interview. Good afternoon. I just spent over an hour in a secret location outside of st. Louis with officer darren wilson. He said he was always in fear for his life, that Michael Brown reached into his car, grabbed for his gun, that Michael Brown did not put his hands up and try to surrender. Instead, that he charged him, that he was in fear for his life and therefore, shot Michael Brown. While he said he was sorry for the loss of life that day, he would not do anything different. He said he had a clean conscience over his actions on that day, and that he was simply doing his job. I also asked him directly would this have gone down any differently if Michael Brown were white. He said absolutely not. Now, since that shooting on august 9th, officer wilson has gone on with his life. He got married, hes about to have a child. He says now he has no idea what hes going to do next. He said all he ever wanted to be was a Police Officer. He knows now that that may not be possible. First of all, this was all happening, the brown family was also having an Emotional Press Conference in st. Louis as well. A lot of anger, lot of emotion still there. Officer wilson says he recognizes the grief of those grieving parents but again, he felt he did what he had to do that day on august 9th.
