A Walnut Creek Police officer suspected of attacking a woman with a baseball bat in richmond pleaded no contest today. 53yearold Gregory Thompson appeared in court today. On august 16th prosecutors say he attacked a woman walking down the street with a bat. He was there keeping an eye on his fathers vacant home which had been vandalized. He faces one year in prison and will be back in court next month. A big step forward today for victims of Domestic Violence. The Baltimore Ravens have terminated the contract of running back ray rice. It happened hours after this video surfaced showing the nfl star punching his then fiancee in february. The nfls decision reached all the way to the white house. One of the most important things that we can do to try to end the scourge of violence against women is for men to band together and to send a very clear signal that it is unacceptable for men to perpetrate acts of violence against women. The league says they never saw that y larry beil is here with more. Once you see the exterior video of rice dragging his fiancee off the elevator, the obvious question is okay, what happened inside. Its a very big stretch to imagine that with all of its resources, that the nfl could not get access to the second video and that tmz could get it first . So either the nfl covered this thing up, which i think everybody would agree was risky and illadvised, either thats what they did, or they were simply negligent in pursuing this. You have prosecutors in atlantic city, they have subpoena power, certainly they must have seen the video or we assume they did. They felt a third degree aggravated assault charge was sufficient in this case. The ravens also claim they had not seen the video until this morning and they acted quickly to cut rice once they became aware of it. Now, from a local perspective, the next question here is how does all of this affect ray mcdonald of the 49ers, who was arrested on Domestic Violence charges two weeks ago but did play yesterday for the niners. The update on this situation comes from the Sacramento Bee which reports that police were called to mcdonalds home back in may on what was described as a disturbance call. It is not clear exactly what the circumstances were in that situation. After the backlash over rice, the first time and now the second time, the nfl has instituted harsher penalties for Domestic Violence so mcdonald will be suspended for six games if he is found guilty. He is due in court on may 15th. So we have two rices, ray and mcdonald, and two harbaughs, john and jim, the brothers, both dealing with very ugly situations. And this issue now that has dom a head in the nfl and of course nationally and around the country as a result of it. The nfl does not look good in any way, shape or form. That video is awful. Yeah, it does. A bizarre Chain Reaction crash in San Francisco today. The driver of a taxi van had some sort of medical emergency. He plowed through a stop sign, hitting a bicyclist.
