Happening today, members of the California State University faculty will testify. They want lawmakers to change their approach to financing the system. This follows an audit in april that found the administration hires managers at a faster rate than other employees i and that there was no oversight of campus budgets. Faculty members want to implement line item budgeting. A new state audit finds the university of california system has underpaid contract workers like food service employees. Lake county deputy died in a crash in lakeport over night. His patrol car slammed into a tree. Officials say the 50yearold Deputy Robert rem rumfelt may have had a medical emergency before the crash. He served in the Police Department from 1997 to 2006. Hes been with the Lake County Sheriffs Office for the last three years. He leaves behind a wife and three daughterses. A firefighter got hurt after battling a grass fire in palo alto in the foothills off page mill road. Crews kept the fire to about five acres. One firefighter taken to stanford hospital for nonlife threatening injuries. No structures were damaged. A surfer doing fine after being rescued from the water off lands end in San Francisco. He fell on rocks at mile rock beach last night and hurt his ankle. Rescuers used a boat to get to him. He was conscious and complained of being cold. A hearing scheduled for today in a recall effort against Santa Clara County judge aaron persky may be postponed. A judge was just assigned to the case yesterday and needs time to get up to speed. Persky argues the recall should be handled by the state and not the county. If the court sides with him, recall organizers would have to start all over again. They say persky has a pattern of bias in cases involving sex crimes, including the case against former stanford swimmer brock turner. Two right wing demonstrations set for this weekend will be met with a huge force of show of force by police. Right now, berkeley and San Francisco departments preparing their officers. The rally isnt even officially approved yet, but the Police Department is smaking big plans. According to our media partner, the San Jose Mercury news, all time off has been canceled for San Francisco police for this saturday. Every officer is working because of the crissy field rally. But mayor ed lee is telling people to not even come here, to not dignify the event. He says this just isnt welcome in San Francisco. Enjoying the freedom of speech also means enjoying themes of collaboration and support and inclusion and diversity. Not necessarily division and hate. That i think they are expressing. The mayor even took to social media to rally people for a counter demonstration. He wants everyone to rally outside of city hall on friday for a united against hate event. The National Park service hasnt said whether the permit was approved for saturday, but the organizer of the event says he feels confident his permit will be approved and his followers will be here starting at 2 00 on saturday. Police used tear gas to break up protesters. Police arrested a fifth person for an unrelated warrant. Thousands of the presss supporters attended last nights rally. Tonight, hell be in reno to speak at a convention for veterans. A north Bay Theater Company is the latest casualty of the violence in charlottesville. Just a few props are left. The play, the foreigner, has been cancelled because the 1980s comedy farce involved an appearance by the kkk. After seeing clashes between White Nationalist protesters and counter protesters, the theaters artistic director didnt want to take a chance. This is not the time to do a farce about the ku klux klan. This is not the time to make fun of them because even though its easy to do so, they are dangerous. And we need to take them seriously. The play was cast and set to open next month. Ticket sales for the canceled production will be refunded. Happening today, help for victims of a deadly fire in san jose. A real estate kamp is going to announce its donating a new mobile home to the displaced family and they lost so much. Fire destroyed the home at the golden wheel Mobile Home Park last week. Three people died, a man and two children. The cause of the fire still under investigation. Advantage homes says it will pay for the cleanup and installation of the new home. Hayward police want your help finding more potential victims of a man accused of Sexual Assault and kidnapping. The man was arrested in june, but police are just now releasing details about the case. Investigators say he pistol whipped and sexually assaulted a woman who assessmented a ride from him. Hes also a suspect in a similar case in hayward in 2015. He currently faces four counts of Sexual Assault and one count of kidnapping. Wells fargo is warning the bogus account scandal could grow. An investigation of bank and credit accounts open without the permission of customers is almost finished. The ceo says the number of false accounts will probably go beyond the 2. 1 million already uncovered. Wells fargo has refunded about 5 million to customers.
