Late last night, police were called to a Mobile Home Park in livermore. There was a standoff and two hours later, the man lit a fire inside the home. You can see how big those flames are. He gave us new information about what took place here overnight when this officerinvolved shooting took place. A man came out with a shotgun and pointed the shotgun at officers. And thats when officers opened fire and killed the man. Now, we did learn something new and interesting about what took place before that. Were told that a shelter in place was put in place here in this Mobile Home Park. Its the sun valley mobile estates. And they asked everybody to stay inside, and officers were actually evacuating some of the neighbors who were near where this home was. That was lit on fire by the man who came out with the gun who was shot by officers. Now, officers were trying to evacuate people at that time when they ended up shooting the suspect. Now, were told that this investigation is going to continue on for a couple more hours this morning. Theyre looking at all angles on this. They say its very early in this investigation. Theyre trying to figure out what exactly started the whole thing and why this man became agitated, started asking about trying to do fights against other people in the neighborhood. And also some of the issues that came up as they were negotiating with him for about two hours last night. Last year, University Investigators found he sexually harassed a student. The University Sanctioned him and he stepped down as Department Chair in the college of education. If it were me in that persons shoes and i saw a professor coming back and seeing the situation was dealt with, i would definitely feel kind of unsafe. The professors attorney released a statement claiming two thirdparty investigations cleared his client of wrongdoing. Abc7 News Reporter matt keller just spoke with police about the investigation. Matt. Reporter natasha, we have a very active scene out here in livermore right now. We have officers and detectives collecting evidence on the scene. This was a very dangerous situation out here for officers and neighbors overnight. Heres video from overnight. Officers say they got their first call around 8 50 last night from the sun valley mobile estates. People reporting a man acting bizarrely and challenging people to a fight. Officers arrived on the scene and said the man had a rifle and refused to obey their commands and went back to his mobile home. Officers say he fired several shot from inside the home all while making suicidal statements. Investigators aren sure if he was aiming at officers at the time. He eventually came out with a sh shotgun. Investigators say he pointed it at the officers and officers shot and killed the man. This happened as police were trying to evacuate nearby homes and telling people to shelter in place. They were worried about the possibility of explosives. This is a moebm home park. These residents are located right next to each other, they have thin walls. All those things were going through our mind as we were dealing with the situation. Reporter police say no officers were injured and no one else was inside the home. Theyre not releasing the name of the man. Firefighters were able to put out the fire.
