Its in san leandro. Officers tried to stop a speeding car on eastbound i580 but they say that driver you turned off his lights to try to get away from him. When the car got off the freeway, the driver sideswiped a gas pump. He was the only person in the vehicle. In San Francisco a Police Officer is conscious but in Critical Condition after being shot with a bullet grazing his head. This started around 8 15 last night at Everglade Drive and sloat boulevard on the western edge of the city. It ended in a shootout near stern grove park. The police union said the suspect is mentally ill. The officer tried to contact him, but thats when the man shot the officer. The sources tell abc7 news it was a young male officer. Police quickly surrounded the area and a party of 70 people in the park was put on hold during the manhunt. Witnesses say they heard the shots. I was inside and i heard three gunshots i looked outside and i saw a cop running, trying to chase the suspect. I saw the cop run this way toward svost so he figured he ran down sloat boulevard and took off from there. How did the officer look . He was limping. The injured officer was taken to San Francisco general hospital. Police say his injuries are not lifethreatening and he is expected to survive. Officers fired shot when they first spotted a suspect the at park side square. Police say he was hiding in a bush before leading them on a brief chase. It avs violent take down when the suspect refused to let his fungo. Officers got him to surrender. Neighbors describe how it went down. I was walking to the market and saw the police coming. I thought i would check it out. Then i heard it was a manhunt. Then i heard something that sounded kind of like an explosion. I came closer and i waited a bit, and then they told us to get out. Then i heard gunshots after that. The suspect was also taken to the hospital, but his injuries and condition are unknown at this time. He is in police custody. Mayor edwards lee visited the injured officer at the hospital. He commended the officers bravery and thanked both the Police Department and the hospital for their hard work. I also want to be thankful for this hospital because everybody is alert, working at their highest level to make sure he can recover. And im thankful that the Police Department is doing what its doing and also has to make sacrifices in moments we are all very concerned about. Again, that officer is expected to recover from his injuries. The mayor said it didnt come as a surprise las vegas had funds to build the stadium. In a statement, davis said all parties have worked extremely hard to develop and approve this tremendous stadium project that will serve as a proud new home for the entire raider nation. Several east bay restaurants and businesses were left in the dark last night after the storm knocked out power. Point richmond was one of the areas that was affected. It was just one of a dozen or so businesses that had to close early because of the storm. Throughout the bay area more than 8,000 pg e customers were without power this morning. 38 in San Francisco, 135 on the peninsula. In the north bay 845 customers are affected. As our 67,000 in the east bay, the most in the bay area. And more than 300 customers are in the dark in the south bay. In the north bay a jackknifed big rig closed three of four lanes on highway 101 in ran rafael after the driver lost control yesterday morning. The chp said the crash was weather related and the truck was going too fast coming down the hill. It led to a bottleneck. They shut down lanes in both directions of 1201 for nearly three hours on the peninsula, strong waves pounded the seawall there. The coast has been hammered by the constant pounding of waves. This weekends rain isnt expected to do much damage or produce much flooding. In the south bay it may not seem like there was much rain, but parts of the county above ben lomen saw three inches. A team checked out canyons and team to figure out where flooding and if you had slides could happen. 40 Miles Per Hour winds are expected in the area tonight. A wind advisory up this afternoon, anywhere from a tenth to perhaps an inch of rain in the wettest north bay locations. Theres the system. It takes quite a while to get to us. The shoreline and coast it will be win da and gusty, as well as the valleys of the Santa Cruz Mountains. We are looking at possibilities of downed trees and powerlines. It isnt just the bay area that is seeing some rain this weekend, a downpour hit portland, oregon last night, flooding streets and stranding drivers. The National Weather service in portland said theres been wild weather in the area. Two tornadoes touched down on the coast. Another one could move in on tuesday. The kind of storm we are seeing always brings high surf, which then adds to the erosion of the coast. Abc7 News ReporterLyanne Melendez continues the storm coverage coverage from pacifica. Reporter the waves may be a sign that our winter has arrived early this year. Some years it starts late, some years it starts a little early. But we need rain so i guess its a good idea we are getting some. We had maybe only a couple weeks of good indian cover on the peninsula. In nevada a 2,000acre fire burning between reno and carson city is threatening 500 structures. Nearly two dozen homes have been destroyed in the fire burning out of control. Crews have zero containment. Some have been sent to nevada to help fight the fire another fire near lake tahoe and emerald bay has forced the evacuation of 500 people. The fire dubbed the emerald fire started in the area of cascade lake and emerald bay yesterday morning. 210acre wildfire is currently burning near Camp Richardson and has closed the closer of highway 89. The fire is 80 contained. Federal transportation officials have issued an emergency order immediately banning all Samsung Galaxy note 7 smartphones from u. S. Fights. Its in response to the reports of the phones catching fire. The ban will take effect this morning at 9 00 a. M. Passengers and flight crews are prohibited from bringing the phone on board or packing them in checked bags. A south bay uber driver is under arrest for backing into a police assistant. Mountain view police took 62yearold man into custody. They say he was driving for uber when he parked in a red zone downtown to drop off a passenger. Police say as the parking assistant issued a ticket, he backed into the assistants vehicle. The man was booked on one charge of assault with a deadly weapon. Two men will face hate crime charges for the attack on a sick man in richmond. Another will go free. Chase little and Colton Leblanc were charged yesterday with felony assault and hate crimes. Charges were dropped against dustin alvarado. One may have gone home to texas. The man attacked a man at a richmond intersection last month. They cutoff a chunk of his hair and nearly severed his finger. Back to that story now. On monday we reported that a truck filled with donated supplies for a Wounded Warriors event was stolen from an oakland street. This morning we have a nice ending to that story. Abc7 news reportr vic lee has the update. At this point we have no contact by the police or the uhaul company. Reporter the 26foot uhaul truck like this one is still missing. It was parked in front of david langs home when it was stolen. A truck filled with donated supplies for a wounded veterans group. His housemate was injured in the persian gulf in the late 90s. He couldnt believe it. Takes away from the faith in humanity, what not. Their faith was restored. Uhaul donated another truck. Adams drove it to a facility in hayward, where the company replaced gatorade and water, which were stolen from the truck. The uhaul was filled with cases of gatorade and bottled water for sundays ride to recovery, a disabled Veterans Program that sponsors a 450mile bicycle ride each year from palo alto to santa monica. They never thought the supplies would be replaced. Honestly i was a little apprehensive. I wasnt sure. You know. Just in time for sundays start of the ride where hundreds. Mostly disabled vets will participate. If it wasnt for them, its hard to support them when they need it. These two marine veterans say the ride is their beautyic, cycling with comrades that know the kind of issues they are going through. Now they can ride with muchneeded provisions, thanks again to the generosity of others. We do rate the storms all winter long, 1 being the lightet and 5 being the most severe. We are looking at wind gusts anywhere from 30 to 50 miles an hour. With that a wind advisory. The sustained winds from 20 to 25 miles an hour. We are anticipating a tenth to about an inch of rain as it pushes through through the overnight hours. A little moisture to the south. They have already picked up a couple inches in the mountains. I know we need it in the south bay. You will get more later on today. But here is the system. Its off the Pacific Northwest coast. It deepens and intensifies and sinks to the south throughout the day today. It will take all day for that to happen. Outside looking at upper 50s San Francisco, low 6301s oakland, san jose, 63 gilroy, and good visibility despite the low clouds and midlevel clouds out there. 57 santa rosa, livermore 55 novato and fairfield. Rye now the winds of light. Its cooler this morning but all that picks up throughout the afternoon. And in fact by about 1 00 it may still be dry in your neighborhood, but its going to get quite breezy. Then the rain will sink south throughout, i would say, the 5 00, 6 00 hour into San Francisco, hayward, fremont, the south bay, and then last all throughout the overnight hours. And then lingering showers for your sunday. In review we should see about two inches in north bay, three quarters inch in san jose for the entire month of october. Some of you surpassing that, and some of you getting about half. And as we look at the Santa Cruz Mountains you notice the action continues there throughout the morning hours. By 4 00 heres the front. Its up well to the north bay. It sinks through marin county by 5 00, 6 00. And its over the heart of the bay area at 7 00, 8 00. Redwood city, 880, livermore and finally into san jose late overnight into your sunday morning. So we are looking at the wind accompanying the cold front, 20 to 30 miles an hour by 1 00 on the coast. It will take you all the way down the san mateo coast, including the pumpkin festival. It may be dry but you are looking at the gusty conditions by the afternoon. Then the front sweeps on through, and with that the wind should dial back later on tonight. So anywhere from a halfinch to an inch in the north bay. Lesser amounts in the south bay. But by tomorrow we are lookin at still some scattered showers. This is where we are tomorrow morning. And then you notice the showers kind of fill in throughout the afternoon. So certainly not a washout today and tomorrow, but getting some rain. 64 on the coast. Breezy conditions. 71 in palo alto and san jose. Reporter tucked in the Western Hills of San Francisco, this hospital has catered to the neediest since the days of the gold rush. Originally not as a hospital but a shelter for the poor. Everyone wanted to find these pictures. Now volunteers have assembled hundreds of artifacts and photographs, dating back to the birth of the citys own house, established in 1866. And it sheltered many. And a former supervisor, a long time supporter of the mission. It all stems from those early, early Gold Rush Days when San Francisco stepped up to the plate, said, hey, we do take care of people. The site was cared out of the ranch. The original building was full of dairy cows. They used to do their own milking. They served a purpose. Yeah. Later after the 1906 earthquake, buildings were expanded and some things still survived. Then they celebrate add in major renovation. Its a publiclyowned, publicly funded, Skilled Nursing center.
