Sena sunset is at 7 44. Breaking overnight in the east bay, a teenaged girl is dead after her car crashed, narrowly missing a school building. It happened early this morning. Three girls were inside that car which officers say was speeding when it hit a driveway, went airborne and then hit a fence. According to police, the girl who died was the driver. The two passengers were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. They are expected to survive. Developing news out of the south bay this morning. Firefighters are still at the scene of a four alarm fire at a Storage Facility in san jose. It started around 9 00 last night at the public Storage Facility on felipe avenue. Crews say flames got out of control, quickly spread to the second floor and nearby units. No word on the cause. Ten to 15 units have been damaged. One firefighter suffered minor injuries is expected to recover. The controversy surrounding 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick continues to grow this morning after he refused to stand for the National Anthem at the start of friday nights game. Now were hearing from the niners head coach as well as former players about what his actions may mean. Reporter Colin Kaepernick is competing for the starting position at quarterback for the 49er this is season. But his passing is not what everyone is talking about. Regardless of your own personal believes, stand out of respect. Its hard not to miss him not standing but sitting during the National Anthem at friday nights game. Considering he was a starter and he was the jewel of the league a couple years ago and hes fallen so quickly, i think that might be something. Kaepernick says he refuses to stand up for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. What i get is not supporting a company thats going to support the innocent killing of blacks. Absolutely. And he has the platform to be able to do that. Reporter whether its on social media or at sporting events, kaepernick is drawing a mixed back of commentary from criticism to support. He used to be like a really incredible player and i just think its kind of, i dont know, sad. I think its disgusting. Its a lack of respect and theres no excuse for it. Former nfl player damien woody took to twitter saying he has every right to express his feelings and believfbeliefs and have every right to disagree. Head coach chip kelly held a Conference Call with the media taking questions on the kaepernick controversy. Apparently friday was not the first time kaepernick refused to stand for the National Anthem. He did the same thing last saturday when the team played at denver. We recognize the right of every individual to participate or not participate in the and anthem. Its not required to stand during the playing of the National Anthem. Its his right as a citizen. Well talk about it as a team. Kelly says hes only talked to kaepernick about football and will not encourage him to stand during the anthem. The niners wrap up their preseason thursday in san diego. The father of a blind man rescued from a burning home has a message this morning for his sons rescuers. Good stuff. Theyre amazing people and to be admired and respected. On wednesday two Pittsburgh Police officers pulled jim taylor out of his house on west 11th street before firefighters got there. The 65yearold cal state east bay grad is in a medically induced coma with severe smoke inhal inha inhale. Doctors tell him his son is improving. The prognosis, i guess, is still to be determined. They hope to have him being able to take food in the next day or two. He says the home is destroyed. Taylors caretaker is now working to find him a new place to live. New details this morning in this attack caught on individuals owe in San Franciscos Pacific Heights neighborhood. Police now have a sketch of the man seen here punching a woman repeatedly. The unprovoked attack happened last week near lafayette park. Abc 7 news visited the neighborhood yesterday, but no one we spoke with recognized the man in this sketch. Investigators say he appeared to be dirty blond hear and a mole on his upper right cheek. He left the victim with a broken nose. If you recognize the man in this sketch, police want to hear from you. For the first time were learning about how a kid snapping victim feels about the city who once called her a liar. She said she no longer feels safe living in valejo. She and her boyfriend were the victims of a Home Invasion robbery in 2015. Police called the kidnapping a hoax even after the suspects arrest. She says her life has been destroyed and she suffers from depression, anxiety and paranoia. A midair engine problem could have resulted in a horrific crash for a southwest jet carrying more than 100 people. Everyone is safe this morning. Abc news has details on the emergency. This was an explosive event and this is very very rare and dangerous because in this case the engine threw a piece of metal into the passengers on board that plane talking about how grateful they are to the pilot for keeping them alive. In england britains hoping to take a weekend trip to france instead ran into a massive traffic jam. A truck slammed into a pedestrian bridge yesterday tearing it down. Its named after the italian city damaged in last weeks earthquake. Restaurant milano on pacific avenue is donating all the money from every dish sold to earthquake victims in italy. Its been very popular. I had a big response. People were very supportive. The owner has family who survived the earthquake. He says 800 has been raised in just two days. 291 people have died in the earthquake which happened yesterday, including a 9yearold girl who died in her younger sisters armed. The younger sister survived. At the little girls funeral the bishop recalled finding the girls in an embrace. Today every museum in italy is donating all the proceeds to earthquake rebuilding. Happening today at home, theres a fundraiser for the victims of the fire in monterey county. It is the biggest fire burning in california right now. An illegal campfire sparked it more than a month ago. Since then more than 91,000 acre versus burned. That fire is 65 contained. The fundraiser kicked off at 2 00 this afternoon in carmel. There are 12 wildfires currently burning all across california. Hearst castle was shut down because of fire. That fire is 52 contained. The castle may be able to reopen tomorrow. The newest wildfire is burning near chico. It is the santos fire. Its already 45 contained after burning 100 acres. Andy was just 4 years old in 198 t 2 but he recalls the reactions from his families. My dad cried. His father was a niners fan. He passed away a couple months before that. He has a football commemorating the catch autographed by joe montana and dwight clark. When andys wife toured levi stadium with him and saw how much he admired the commemorative bricks, she purchased one for him as a surprise. Just because i love him. Shelly kept her purchase a secret. A replica of the brick arrived in the mail when shelly was at work. He opened it and he was very surprised to see it there. When i called her im like what did you do . The brick was supposed to be installed by the stadium by the summer. A concert force add delay. Then there was super bowl 50 at levi stadium. She would learn shortly before the spouper bowl that the brick promotion ended in december. At that point both gave up hope of seeing the brick installed. Flames quickly raced out of control. One firefighter suffered minor injuries. No word yet what sparked that fire. Crews say they have it under control this morning. A family run market in livermore is considered a total loss after a devastating fire. Investigators say it started around 4 00 yesterday morning at the ramirez market on maple street, threatening the business next door. The fire caused an estimated 300,000 in damage to that market. No other businesses suffered significant loss. Walnut creek has recorded its first homicide of the year. The suspect has not been caught yet. Police are still piecing together the details of friday nights shooting. Abc 7 News Reporter explains residents are shocked by this violence. Courtney brown was a doting father of two teenaged girls. He was out with his friends and police say his fiancee when something went terribly wrong. You heard about six pops go off real quick. There was a lot of police. It was one guy on the floor. Someone shot brown in the back three times. Police think he was targeted because of what they call a confrontation. But a source told me after brown left the sports bar, the suspect came from an opposite direction and started shooting. I spoke with his sister, seen here on the left, by phone. He and somebody got into it. Knowing him, he dont want to fight. He wasnt a fighter. He tried to walk away. And the guy shot him. Brown lived in vallejo with his older daughter. He was a family man. Browns siblings all chose to leave the bay area and move to texas because of the violence, but he chose to stay. I just knew eventually something tlilike this was goino happen. Its just to bad now in the bay. Police are scouring the intersection and checking surveillance cameras from area businesses. They stress finding this murderer is their top priority. Still downtown regulars admit this shooting has shaken them. And their weekend habits may change as a result. Ill still come but i probably wont stay as late. Police continue ed to followp on leads. While walnut creek has only seen one homicide this year, san jose just recorded its 35th. Police say they received a report of a disturbance just after midnight yesterday at bass com avenue. San jose has already seen five more homicide ths this year tha all of last year. Some tired of holding their noses. The trail that runs alongside the landfill public waste intends to expand because the landfill has nearly reached current capacity. The citizens want this dump ground to be closed. That would be in line with the lifestyle of the entire bay area. No other city has to deal with this. In november, milpitas residents will vote on a measure to decide on the landfills future. Milpitas has sued the landfills operator over the smells coming from that facility. Onto politics now. Republican donald trump will come to california for a fundraising trip this week. The concept is very old. It goes back probably a thousand years. The official meaning is repairing the world. To me it means just having someone feel better, feel happy and have a smile on their face. Reporter kayla started her charity in florida, collecting toys, movies and video games for kids who are hospitalized. I spent a lot of time in medical facilities, whether its being arthritis or crohns disease. Its so boring in hospitals. I really wanted to change that. Reporter the recognition and the funding they receive here will let these teens start expanding across the country. Its going to expand from Southern California to arizona and whenever my feet land. We worked with kids who are 10 years old and they cant even pick up a book or formulate a sentence. Reporter the prize includes 36,000. It is a Hockey Program for kids with special needs. Stanford wants to make its first day ice breakers way less awkward. The university plans to use a program that allows students to record their name and gender. The program was created by stanford graduates. Stanford started using it for Commencement Ceremonies last year to make sure names are pronounced correctly. About 300 students so far have registered their name pronunciations. The first day of class for undergrads is just under a month away. Coming up, a young girl puts her best foot forward.
