He approached a checkpoint and pulled a semiautomatic rifle from a bag. He shot and killed one tsa agent and wounded at least three others. The first shot went out and it was a loud bang. I mean, boom everybody panicked. Everybody dropped to the ground. The shooter seemed to be aiming at tsa officer. A man was holding up his bloody arm. This man barely escaped. He was carrying a rifle and he looked at me, and he said tsa . With a question mark. I just shook my head and he kept going. Some went to the bathrooms and some head ford, its. He hid under a chair. I wanted to help them, but i also wanted to cover myself. I caught up with him near the rear of the terminal, and thats where an officerinvolved shooting occurred. The shooter went down wounded. His rifle fell where he did and not a moment too soon. There was more than 100 more rounds that literally could have killed everybody in the terminal. The terminal has been taken over by investigators. Many walked for miles to get to a ride as the airport was closed to cars for most of the day. The driver was trying to get here and he called and said it was impossible. He couldnt get anywhere. So i have been, walking for the past hour. The bag he was carrying con continued a onepage handwritten note blasting the tsa. He said his Constitutional Rights were being violated during tsa searches. Heres what we know about the officer who was killed. His name is herardo hernandez. Hes 39yearold. He works a behavior detection officer and his job was to identify possible terrorists. He had recently transferred from montana. Head of the tsa will visit his family in los angeles today. Its the first time a tsa office every has been killed on duty in the agencys 12 years. He said the text they received suggested the 23yearold might kill himself. We are learning more about the terrifying shooting at los angeles International Airport, including the identities of the shooter and the victim. Good morning. Reporter good morning to you, katie. We are certainly seeing a heavier Police Presence out there. The terminal where the shooting occurred remains closed this morning. Things slowly getting back to normal out here but witnesses describe the scene of sheer chaos as the shooting unfolded friday morning. A quiet morning suddenly plunged into havoc friday. The stampede of terrified travelers when a lone gunman, a 23yearold paul ciancia, approached a checkpoint and culled a semiautomatic rifle from a bag. He shot one tsa officer dead and wounded at least two others. The first shot went out, and, i mean, it was a loud bang, i mean, boom a shooting in terminal 3. He seemed to be aiming at tsa officers. A man wearing a blue tsa uniform was helped from the scene, holding up his bloody arm. I heard gunshots and we all just went down to the ground. Those who could made a run for the exits while others sought shelter in bathrooms. I caught up with him near the rear of the terminal, and that is where an officerinvolved shooting occurred. The gunman went down, wound by police gunfire. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance under heavy guard. Police say his rifle fell where he did. Along with ammunition that might have fueled a bloodbath. There were more than 100 more rounds that could have literally killed everybody in that terminal today. The tsa officer who died was gerardo i hernandez. He was 39. First tsa agent ever killed in the like of duty. A tsa officer got up and went to work this morning and is not going to go home to their family. Now that officer who was killed was a father of two. He had just transferred here from montana. Katie. Its just so sad, have we learned anything at this point about the motive, why the gunman did this . Well, investigators are still looking into a motive. Law enforcement source tell us that the alleged shooter left behind a note that specifically expressed anger and frustration at the tsa. The show becomes more controversial with yesterdays shooting at lax. We have the story. Reporter during the last year crossroads of the west gun shows attracted over 400,000 customers. Crossroads of the west is billed as the biggest gun show in the country. This is state property and the state has no problem with the shows. This spring, a state senator proposed a bill that would have required both San Francisco and san mateo supervisors to approve gun shows at the cal palace. Both went on record opposing the gun shows. If the bill became law, that would be passed here. Legislature passed the bill but Governor Brown vetoed it. The bills owner said it was not good for the state. It would cost about 1 million to replace the revenue the gun show creates for the state. It comes in the shooting of the shooting in los angeles. The Police Department doesnt want to say exactly where they are located but we know there will be a lot of them. Wayne freedman has the story. Around the boarders look up. They might call these the eyes of big brother but not ideal in the big island city. I think we need big brother to watch us now. We have the highest crime rate in my past eight years and ive looked at the records. Its probably in the past 20 years. More importantly, its been the highest increase. Piedmont city councilman cast one of five unanimous votes to spend 673,000 at 39 cameras at 15 locations in the city. They read license plates of cars arriving from oakland. The haves have more and the havenotes have less. The discrepancy is becoming more apparent. Burglaries have always been a problem, but theres been more forcible burglaries. The city has been installing cameras for roughly two weeks. No word on any deterring effect. This one looks down on jeff hansons gas station. Sometimes i think oakland and piedmont both benefit from this. Jeff is more geographically situated to dust it more than most people. Heres why. It will take us through the second half of the weekend with breezy conditions and then it looks like, if all things are favorable, we could see a little rain by next thursday. Maybe into friday. But right now the models are flipflopping and it doesnt look too promising. But that would be our next chance. So heres whats going on for the month of november, in case you for got. We forecast temperatures at the beginning of the month. Kind. Where we are today, upper 60s in San Francisco. By the end of the month we should be in the low 60s. We average anywhere from about 2. 2 inches of rain. October, one of the driest on record. We need rain and weve seen as much as 10 inches in the month. Temperatures would be pretty rare to hit the 80s and pretty cool as we drop down. We will look for temperatures today to be comfortable. Heres the wind advisory that goes up tonight through 7 00 tomorrow. Gusts up to 40 miles an hour are likely in the Higher Elevations of the north bay. The east bay getting windy at the coast as well. Keep that had mind. You may want to make sure everything is secured down later on this evening. The cold front will provide the rain along the north coast. This will increase the Pressure Gradient as that cold front pushes on through. What that means is the gusty winds and the cooler temperatures. Before the front moves through, though, the onshore winds will keep it cooler at our coast. The second half of the weekend featuring still the partly cloudy conditions and the temperatures coming down. So high temperatures today across the state, pretty typical and some warmth in the southland with 80 in los angeles. 86 in palm springs. Upper 50s in the northern sierra with 68 in yosemite. Back home a few clouds around from time to time. Overall still a decent day. 66 downtown. 67 in san mateo. Look for 68 palo alto. San jose coming in at 69. A couple 70s out toward our inland east bay. 27 napa and 71 in santa rosa. Tomorrow, of course, its philadelphia in town for the raiders. Numbers in the 60s. So the accuweather sevenday forecast shows one of the warmest days today but it will be cooler tan what we have experienced, and we set our clocks back. Tomorrow looking at 50s and 60s.
