Temperatures are ranging from the 30s and 40s around the bay. But i forgot to mention truckee at ninenous 8 minus 8 this morning. That gives you an idea how cold it is out there. Looking dry and quiet this morning. We are looking at what we call a midwinter dry spell with the averages being pretty dry right on through not only the weekend but the upcoming work week. So with that we are looking at cold temperatures. 31 in concord right now. Good morning, novato, 32 for you and 32 in santa rosa. 42 San Francisco. 37 along the coast with mid30s in san jose, and los gatos 35. Compared to yet we are certainly colder in most spots, anywhere from two to nine degrees colder than we were friday morning. But the delta, a little bit of a wind out that way. Thats why you are a little bit warmer this morning. But by sunday and monday morning, once again, we will see lows in the overnight in the lower 30s. Even some 20s are expected tonight, into monday morning. Your highlights then, a string of cold nights continue for your sunday and monday morning. Sunny and cool, and that forecast will hold right on through next week. In fact, it will take a while to warm up. More like the midto the end of the work week. Here the setup. There was a weak system to the north and west of us and it is really falling apart. With that it is skirting the shoreline, bringing the rain showers just along the coast out in the ocean. And that gives us partly cloudy, cool conditions, and High Pressure is building in offshore. Those west to northwest winds will continue to pick up today. Thats going to add to that cool feel to the air. So right on through the day tomorrow notice the sunny conditions and we will be looking at nice averages. But definitely on the cool side. So overnight lows tonight, yes, even colder. We are talking upper 20s santa rosa, 35 richmond with upper 20s in livermore. By the delta significantly cooler with 32 in palo alto. 33 in san jose. About 29 in morgan hill. High temperatures today ranging from the upper 40s from livermore, 49 san rafael, 52 oakland and 50 San Francisco and town by the monterey bay, not much warmer. 51 gilroy, 52 in salinas. So you have been waiting for the big game today with temperatures in the upper 40s, dropping to the mid40s underneath the clear sky so it will be chilly this afternoon. Heres the look ahead. The freeze watch overnight tonight into sunday morning. Still, very chilly right through monday. Sunny and dry and we will hit the upper 50s to near 60 and 60s by the end of the work week so thats what we call our midwinter dry spell. 60s will feel warm enough, i guess. Thank you, lisa. Jonathan bloom has more on vivian brown, one of the famous San Francisco twins whose sister now has to carry on without her. In the small familyowned nob hill cafe, a corner table sits empty. A table that two nights aweek was home to one of San Franciscos biggest attraction. Im marion and im vivian. Gunshots, but whats your last name. Brown. They graced countless advertisements and they werent just guests at the cafe, they were entertainment. They wanted autographs . Always, they would get up and want to take pictures and the twins would love it. Central through the gray, they were as recognizable as sir Francis Drakes door men. That ended when one was hospitalized for alzheimers disease. Marion visited alzheimers almost daily, thanks to an outpouring of donations that allowed her to stay in the city. People would email with money to offer help and volunteer to donate. Services are costly when you are elderly and you need care. Vivian finally passed away, peacefully in her sleep. The brown twins were so impeccable in their identicallist, even people who know them for decades say there isnt a story, outfit that was just one of them. Could you tell them apart . Theres no evidence that is what is in your like a lot of things, trying to find a better job can be frustrating. So at university of phoenix were working with a growing list of almost two thousand Corporate PartnersCompanies Like microsoft, American Red Cross and adobe to create options for you. You are looking live through the roof cam. Notice the Ferry Building lit up in red. Thats for the niners tonight, the kickoff at five. It will be a chilly kickoff. The full forecast is coming up in a few minutes. The selfdriving car may be years away but its development is yielding short term advances to make driving safer and easier. Some of that research is underway in Silicon Valley. Technology reporter david louie shows us some examples. We can all relate to this, returning to a parking lot we find the car is boxed in, making it difficult, even impossible, to open the door but technology can solve this dilemma. Ultrasonic sensors built into the bumpers, along with driver assisted technology, can move the car out of the tight box. While theres a long range vision to create self driving cars, audi is working on incremental technology. We assist them in very predictable situations. We also can allow that he is a little bit relaxed on whats happening with the car, but he still remains behind the Steering Wheel to be in charge of whats happening with the car. Audi is part of the Volkswagen Group that runs this research lab in Silicon Valley. More than 100 engine nears, designers and others are working on prototypes. Heres another example of driver assistance. Squeezing into a tight spot in the garage. While cars may some day be able to drive themselves, engineers believe drivers need to ease into it and to know when to intervene. If you suddenly introduce total atonnous technology, you dont know if the person takes over immediately, right . So we want to make sure there are steps that people have the experience and practice of being able to take over when they need to and then eventually it will be natural when they need to take over when the car is a little more autonomous. Research such as this is often done in secret, but audi, by letting us see some of what they are working on, not only excites the public about the future of the automotive industry, but also gives engineers some motivation to look at their careers and perhaps working in this field. Pretty futuristic stuff. Ill take whatever help i can get with parking, especially in the city. Remember the parallel parking road test . A tough time. At this point im just glad the heater works in my car. We need it with temperatures at or below freezing at the north and east bay valleys. We wont be done with the cold for the next several days.
