Abc7 News Reporter kate larsen is live at sfo. Kate . Reporter thats right, natasha, reggie, many flights as you say about 6,000 canceled in and out of the u. S. Throughout the country. Here at sfo, a smaller number, about 43 canceled so far today. Of course, most of those flights to the east coast. Lets go ahead and take a look. Heres video of the airports. This is washington, d. C. , and weve also got baltimore, which is, of course, very close to d. C. , some of the major cities affected today by this winter storm. Of course, the east coast affected but also the midwest cities like chicago and even all the way south down to florida, new york airports experiencing a lot of delays, of course, boston logan as well as we mentioned baltimore and the washington, d. C. , airports as well as philadelphia airports. I actually spoke to a number of travelers already this morning, many of whom were actually showing up at the airport today because their flights were canceled yesterday. So, now theyre trying to get to the east coast today and theyre keeping their fingers crossed that well actually make it happen. A frantic rescue effort in oakland after a man drove into the water last night. He crashed into the marina along the embarcadero just north of 16th avenue. The man was unresponsive when firefighters pulled him out around 9 30. They performed cpr before rushing him to the hospital. We do not yet have word on his condition. We are tracking developing news in nape this morning. Two flifr plifrs on administrative leave after fatally shooting a man. It happened at the store on kansas avenue. Witnesses say a crazed man was stabbing and slashing at cars. When officers got there, two of them shot and killed him. One home depot employee saw it all unfold. He was really acting aggressive. He was screaming and kicking cars around everywhere and he was i just saw him walk right past through here and as soon as he just crossed the street and i kept doing my job and i just heard i think it was four or five gunshots. One woman who lives in a homeless encampment says she knows the suspect, a homeless man in his early 20s. Happening today, one of three suspects arrested in a deadly freeway shooting is expected to appear in court. 24yearold Demarcus Doss was shot and killed on i80 last thursday. One of the suspects is charged with his murder. Two 17yearold boys were also arrested for the crime. They have not yet been identified. It is not clear what led up to the shooting. Johnson is scheduled to appear in court today. The chp is continuing a search for a gang of bikers who beat a lyft driver an a San Francisco freeway last week. This is the video that went viral. Up to 15 bikers attacked that driver in the middle of rush hour traffic on 101 wednesday. He survived and is now sharing his story with abc7 news. Reporter Alex Quintana is in pain but grateful to be alive. He thought he might die on the side of the freeway after he was brutally attacked last week. The road rage incident has captured national attention. They were all hitting and kicking from everywhere. Reporter the 35yearold was driving for lyft on southbound highway 101 near the cesar chavez exit. Witnesses captured some of the crime involving 10 to 15 young men on dirt bikes and motorcycles. Quintana believes he thought he was trying to run one of them over. One shattered his leg. He looked at me right in the eyes and my leg all i could do was lay there and cry and think about my kid. Reporter supporting his kid, his baby elijah, is the reason quintana was driving all the way from modesto to the bay area every day to work for uber and lyft. Now, the new father is out of a job and from his hospital bed is trying to help Law Enforcement track down the bikers. He says the chp calls the 12 00 boys. Its important. Not just to, you know, get what happened to me but so something doesnt happen to somebody else. Reporter quintana has had surgery for his leg, which was broken in three places. Happening today, the Morgan Hill School Board will meet in emergency session to discuss sexual abuse lawsuit. The parents of three girls molested by a former teacher have reached a tentative settlement with the district. John arthur lloyd was convicted of abusing the girls while they were students at paradise elementary. He was also accused of abusing a fourth girl. The parents say the school failed to see obvious signs of abuse. The parents are demanding the district do more to protect students, both sides will be back in court tomorrow. Happening today, the city of oakland is taking a stand against president trumps proposed border wall between the skpus mexico. Oaklands finance committee will present a proposal to the city council to consider a boycott against the wall. That will include all construction, engineering, and security businesses plus many more. Steep ravine camp background in the Mount Tamalpais state park is closed indlooechbt now. The state Parks Department says the access road to get there is unsafe to drive or walk on. Highway 41 leading to Yosemite National park has reopened to oneway traffic near fish yafrp. The road serves as a major artery to park traffic. It was shut down after a massive sinkhole showed up. Caltrans says months of heavy rain caused the shoulder to erode and form add fivefootwide hole. Crews had to replace the entire portion of the road. Caltrans hopes to finish the work in the next new days. A federal Appeals Court in San Francisco will hear an appeal about why would horse roundups in nevada. The lawsuit filed on behalf of nevada ranchers wants the bureau of Land Management to round up and remove more than 6,000 wild horses from public lands. The American Wild Horse Campaign is appealing that lawsuit. The hearing starts at 9 00 this morning. San jose now has a new measure in place intended to help parttime workers. It gives them priority for any additional work hours their employees may have. The law is the first of its kind in the nation. A lot of businesses were keeping their work force in parttime status, probably in order to avoid paying benefits. Reporter the executive officer of the south Bay Labor Council is happy this day has come. He says the parttime work force in san jose was growing and the workers were struggling. The fact that more and more of them were working parttime meant that more and more of them were having a hard time putting food on the table and paying their bills. Reporter the law requires businesses with more than 36 employees to offer additional hours to their current parttime employees before hiring more parttime employees. Some 1200 companies in san jose are affected. The Silicon Valley organization opposed measure e, the executive Vice President says though well intended it could hurt small to medium sized businesses. Any time you see a significant regulation such as opportunity to work, it tightens employers bottom line and makes it harder for them to add on employees. Reporter but because it is now law, theyre working with san jose businesses to help them understand and implement the first of its kind law. An Assembly Woman from san diego is working on legislation that would implement similar rules statewide. Five people rescued off the coast of florida when the boat they were in started to sink. This happened yesterday afternoon near naples. This dramatic video captured by a helicopter crew shows deputies helping in that rescue effort. The boat was about a half mile offshore when it started taking on water in some pretty rough seas. This mobile Diabetes Education and Prevention Center features workstations and a kitchen. Abc7 news was there as the Toro University and Sutter Health unveiled this van yesterday. It will provide screening for diabetes and demonstrations on how to prepare food that is healthy and delicious. Touro university points out that 55 of californian with diabetic or or diabetic.
