Police are looking for the person who opened fire at a san jose bar killing a man and wounding two others. Abc 7 News Reporter matt keller is live from the scene with the latest. Matt . Reporter this parking lot right here is still blocked off as this has turned into a homicide investigation. You can see the crime scene van is here, still processing evidence outside the restaurant. Police say the shooting happened just after 10 00 last night. It appears the shooter fired outside through the windows. Three people were hit by bullets. They were taken to the hospital. One man died and the two others had nonlifethreatening injuries. Right now were reviewing some of the video footage and collecting some of the evidence and processing the scene. Reporter police say about 15 people made up of patrons and employees were around when officers arrived. They were interviewed. No one has been arrested. Police are still trying to figure out how many shooters were involved and also the motive behind the shooting. Now, officers expect to be here on the scene for the next couple of hours. This is san joses 31st homicide of the year. Reporting live in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. New this morning, Berkeley Police have moved in to clear out a camp outside an historic post office. Officers asked everyone to leave shortly before midnight and made no arrests. Activists had been there nearly a month trying to stop it from being sold to a private developer. The Postal Regulatory Commission says it will consider an appeal submitted by mayor tom bates. The building is listed on the National Register of historic places. Postal commissioners have until late november to decide the buildings fate. Happening now, a massive fire is burning at a new jersey Metal Recycling plant. It broke out late last night in jersey city and its been raging for more than eight hours in one of the largest recycling plants in the world. Fire crews are working hard to get it under control, but heavy smoke could be seen for miles. Crews in claw cranes are trying to move piles of scrap metal out of the way to help firefighters. The plant recycles 4,000 tons of scrap each day. Funeral services will be held this morning for a man who along with his 1yearold son were shot to death in oakland. 20yearold Andrew Thomas and his son, drew, were visiting family at a house on gormly avenue when someone shot through a bedroom window two weeks ago. Family members say the two were from fresno and were in town for a funeral for a relative. Police have not made any arrests in the case. Oakland Police Credit witnesses who came forward for the arrest of a man police say shot four people on saturday. Police say the man stole items from a car belonging to a hairstylist. Witnesses chased him down and got the items back. Police say demetrius ward then went back to the telegraph avenue hair salon where the stylist worked and opened fire. Tips to police led officer to ward. All four shooting victims expected to be okay. This morning deliberations expected to continue in the trial of an accused serial killer blamed in the deaths of four women. In closing statements 79yearold joseph naso argued prosecutors did not prove he was capable of killing four Northern California women in the 70s and 90s. Hes acting as his own attorney. At the end of his statement he had a letter slipped to the abc 7 news iteam. It details whom naso says are other possible suspects in at least one of the murders. He faces the Death Penalty in convicted. Happening today, a former special Education Teacher in antioch accused of abusing her autistic student is due back in court. 55yearold teresa allen pleaded not guilty saying she did not physically abuse her students. Prosecutors contend she abused six students all between the ages of 5 and 7 including some who are nonverbal. She resigned in february after parents reported her to police. She is currently under house arrest. 4 35. No criminal charges will be filed in the limo fire that killed five women on the san mateo bridge. The chps announcement yesterday confirms why abc first reported exclusive on friday that the cause of the fire was mechanical and the accusations that the limo driver was distracted at the time were unfounded. Meanwhile, authorities have released the dramatic 911 calls made immediately after the fire spread. Get out get out get out ive got a car fire. These temperatures are running pretty close to yesterday. At least up in the north bay. Everybody else about three to six degrees cooler. But as long as we have that threat of a storm or two, heres a look at all the areas. The western slope of the sierra, the Northern California mountains, even our Higher Elevations are going to be dealing with the threat. Now, notice 10 00 or 11 00 today for the Santa Cruz Mountains and the diablo range. The north bay is whats going to go through 5 00 tomorrow evening. So you can see our threat is definitely starting to shift to the north. As we head towards the afternoon hours. And also to tomorrow. So heres a look at whats going on as far as our forecast. A smaller storm chance today. And tomorrow. High fire danger still with that storm chance. And as we talked about those chances taper by wednesday. New numbers from the centers for Disease Control show that cases of lyme disease are much more common than weve thought. Officials now believe that 300,000 americans are diagnosed with lyme disease each year. Thats ten times more than previously estimated. The cdc has suspected for years that doctors dont report every case. And the numbers were probably higher than the 20 to 30,000 reported each year.
