So, the best advice is still to avoid this area. Theres a lot of roads still blocked off, so, keep that in mind if your destination is potrero hill. Eric thomas, live on abc7 news. Here and virginia, what should you do if youre ever in a similar situation like this. Scenarios joins us. Thank you for having me. What really can people do to prepare for a situation like this . We start to see them all the time now. Yeah. Well, in a stressful situation, if you include other things, for example, like a fire or an earthquake or some other form of emergency, its of critical importance that you have a plan for what it is that you want to do. And knowing your layout of the place that youre in, knowing your surroundings, knowing the people who pure with, and of course calling the police, all those things are going to increase your chances. Its just a terrible tragic situation and there are only so many things you can generally do to be able to avoid the danger, or if possible, extricate yourself from the danger. If youre faced with that, youre obviously not going to know that its coming. Thats the whole point of the attackers his motive is to try to get people when theyre not expecting it. So, what advice, practical advice do you try to play the hero . Do you run as fast as you can . What do you do . Well, those questions are all very good ones, but those are questions ultimately that i dont think its up to anybody to prescribe to an individual. Its up for an individual to determine what their own personal priorities are, how they are interpreting the situation with their physical condition is. But also just having a awarenes. There is an old adage that goes, you never rise to the occasion, you merely fall back on your training. So, if something happens to you, you are going to be in a state of shock. And youre going to be trying to process what to do. And the importance of understanding in your mind what your plan is, is going to allow you to react faster and increase your chances of survival. Any advice for someone who is that type of person who knows that they just freeze up when Something Like this happens . Well, if somebody freezes up and this does happen frequently, people do get a deer in the headligh of expression, theytsreyp literally trying to process. Their frontal lobe is trying to process whats happening to them. But it almost becomes a subconscious routine. For example, for a Police Officer drawing their hand gun, theyve done it so many times. That if there is a threat that they encounter on the street, even if theyre completely unprepared for it, they have the muscle memory in place that they can go to their various steps and get that hand gun on target and be able to engage that danger without having to think about it. And the more prepared you are, the more capability of conscious thought that you have and the more information youre going to be able to process in order to figure out what you want to do. If its going to be running away, which is always a good option, wino k are, knowing what could potentially intercept you in those exits or alternatively barricading yourself in an area that could be easily defensible such as a place with cinder block walls or a heavy door, something you can barricade. Try to have some sort of plan in case the worst scenario comes about. All right. Thank you, brad from threat scenarios. Thanks for coming in and joining us. Appreciate it, thank you. All right.
