Manufacture the officers are start trying to stay cool while other detectives and officers are dog a block by block search looking for one possibly two suspects. Right now theyre primarily focusing on one suspect. Sky 7 had hd was overhead right after those first shots were fired it happened behind an auto zoe around the corner from where were standing right now. The officer was trying to make a traffic stop and then all of a sudden the suspect tried to back up had his vehicle into the officer. Shots were fired its still unclear exactly what happened whether the officer was hit or whether the suspect was hit. Thats still under investigation. We talked to the Public Information officer for Fremont Police, and she tells us why there is that confusion at this point. Definitely sustained injuries were not going to confirm what if it was a gunshot, but we believe that the vehicle backed into the officer. The officer went down. There were shots fired. Reporter but it didnt end there. The suspect got away on foot and ran across the Shopping Center and made his way inside a Safeway Store. There he startled maybe 20 to 25 customers plus the employees. We did talk to an employee in the seafood department. Said he saw the man brandishing a small handgun as he was running away from police xs. Now, we did talk to that suspect right now and were dpoging to get liz firsthand account of what he saw. He went in the back, and then i seen s. W. A. T. Come in from aisle right by the produce department. He came all the way down. I seen the other one on aisle 7 where the frozen is. He came through here and he said, duck, so we ducked all down. Thats when they told us and all that. Reporter heres what we have soar far as the suspect that theyre looking for, hispanic male about 6 feet tall, has a shaved head, thin mustache wearing a giants shirt gray shorts and possibly in tliz 30s or possibly 40s. Thats about all they have right now. Again, theres a little confusion. Is there one or two suspects . Theyre focus on that one suspect for whom they have that good description. There may have been a second suspect. The second incident outside the safe way store did involve a shooting in which the officer was hit, and hes been taken to a trauma center. The first officer who was injured possibly by having the vehicle back into him while shots were being fired he also went to a trauma unit. We dont know the conditions of those two officers at this point. Right now the scene is still under a very methodical investigation. Theyre sweeping this entire neighborhood. The blaze went to three alarmz right away. A fourth alarm was called because of the potential hazards of the oils and fluids inside the store. Everyone in the store got out safely. And big news in southern california. Real scare for students at ucla today after a shooting there prompted a lockdown of that campus. Classes have been canceled for the rest taste after what police say was a murder suicide in an Engineering Building. Abc News Reporter brandi hitt has the late e. Reporter the ucla campus on lockdown after shots were fired near the Engineering Building. I was walking by the Engineering Building and i saw everyone running out. I thought it was a scavenger hunt. The unfortunate fact is there are two victim whoz are deceased from that shooting, a homicide and a suicide occurred in the engineering facility, engineering part of the ucla campus. More Law Enforcement officers scrambling across ucla conducting door to door searches inside buildings. I saw a bunch of students just run. I ran into this building and just sought shelter. In a phone interview with me this afternoon, daphne says the most frightening moment was when they you saw the outlines of four men outside their door. Terrified when that door shut. I think that was the scariest part. But i thought like something really terrible was going to happen. The men turn ud tout be authorities. They never entered daphnes classroom. Police radio talk indicates at least one of the injured officers has been taken to san jose Regional Medical center. Team and multiple agencies are still out had here on the scene searching for the suspect who was involved in that shooting incident involving two fremont Police Officers this afternoon. This all started as a traffic stop about 1 30 this afternoon behind an auto zone store on fremont boulevard. Sky7 hd was overhead minutes after reports of those short shots fired its not clear yet who shot the rounds. The suspect inside the vehicle or by the officer. Police believe the suspect backed up his vehicle into the officer. The back window of a white pickup truck at the scene is shattered. Its not known if the officer was shot or if he was injured from the back upof the pickup. Details from Police Spokesperson navy vazquez tv at this time, we have two officers at hospitals. We have multiple agencies out assisting us. This is a major incident. We are asking everyone within aabout a one mile radius of our two crime scenes to shelter in place. Reporter the suspect then ran off taking refuge briefly in a nearby Safeway Store where he startled customers and employees. They saw him brandishing a small handgun, but he did not point it at anyone. Police initially were not certain if there was the possibility of a second suspect. But for now theyre focusing on only one who has been described as an hispanic male 6 feet tall with a shaved head, thin mustache, orange giants shirt gray the shorts in his 30s or 40s in age. Now, a second officer did confront the suspect outside the safe way store. Shots were fired and that officer was hit. That officer has been taken to Regional Medical center of san jose. They have a wellknown trauma unit there his condition not yet known. And all the bay area. This is abc 7 news. Government Health Officials issued new salt guidelines for restaurants and packaged food today. Americans eat about 3400 milligrams of sodium a day. Thats about 1 1 2 teaspoons and almost 50 more than experts recommend. About 70 of that is in the food before its off the shelf or on the table. Health Officials Say lowering intake to 2300 milligrams per day will prevent thousands of death each year from Heart Disease and stroke. Want to goo to live update now on the situation in fremont where Fremont Police are preparing to update us on the shooting that injured two officers. Lets listen live right now. We encountered the same suspect on roberts avenue in fremont a short distance away and during that encounter again we exchanged gun fire with the suspect and another officer was injured. Both officers were injured by being shot by the suspect. They are both currently at trauma centers. We are not going to clarify much detail about the level of their injuries. One is currently in surgery and i dont have the status of the second. But that is why we are right now. We have multiple agencies out here assisting us and im going to go ahead and turn had this over to Alameda County Sheriffs Office right now to continue on. Ar jant ray telly with the Alameda County Sheriffs Office. Weve assumed the Tactical Response role for this incident. We are going by the union city and Newark Police democrat. So the Fremont Police department has turned over the Tactical Operations to tSheriffs Office. We have a large team and we are working in a location in a perimeter to locate the suspects that we believe are responsible for this shooting. These shootings. Right now its a contained area we have a shelter in place. Were asking anybody who is sheltering in place or anybody in that neighborhood if they see anything to immediately call 911 so that we can immediately respond. Were deploying all sorts of technology and people. We have our canines out here. And as you can see we have a lot of resources from all over the east bay. So right now we are in a mode of going out and searching yard to yard, door to door to find out where the suspect responsible for this shooting is. Is with swun suspect or are there more . We believe there is maybe one more suspect. We believe one is volved in the shooting and right now were focusing our attention on that person. [ indiscernible ] right now it appears that maybe theyve split up and so we have, you know, multiple locations and we believe we have it contained in this neighborhood. But its the geographics are a little difficult. We have some apartment complexes mixed in with Residential Homes with courts and side streets. We have Railroad Tracks on the back side. So were just asking anybody thats currently in their residence to really keep their eyes out for us. And point us in the right direction. [ indiscernible ] we dont know that. We dont know that. [ indiscernible ] its a very large city block. This part of fremont has very large blocks. Were talking a very large size city block encompassing probably ten akech acres or less [ indiscernible ] well, right. Weve had fremont step out of the tactical role. They have to deal with their issues regarding the investigation. They have two officers that obviously theyre very worried about. So weve come to lift their burden a little bit, the other agencies. So the Sheriffs Office were going to take the tactical lead and then were going to work with newark and Union City Police to go and do the yard to yard search. Once somebody is located whether its the specific person you believe is responsible or affiliated suspects potentially, whats the time frame look like for the taktd cal point of view in engaging the suspect or suspects . You know weerg going to move slow and were going to move methodical and were going to move safely. We want to resolve this situation safely. So were going to move as fast as we need to or as slow as we need to. Were going to use our personnel. Were going to use our equipment. Were going to use technology. We have helicopters up. We have Unmanned Aerial Systems up working this. We have canines. So were going to go slow and method cal. We want this to end peacefully. We dont want anybody injured. We have video of somebody put into handcuffs in the back of a police car. Is that related . Do you have anyone in custody . We have detained several people on the periphery of this investigation, people were talking to. Theres witnesses. Theres a lot going on. Its a very fluid situation. [ indiscernible ] i can confirm at this point in time that the officers have not passed away. They do remain hospitalized. Again, one is still in surgery. That officer has just over a year of service with our department, very new officer. The second officer who sustained injuries is also in the hospital. I dont have a status on him. But he was a male officer with about ten years of service. Hes currently serving as a detective in our department. [ indiscernible ] i dont really have a lot of information about what the traffic stop was and how it initiated. It may take us some time just due to the circumstances to figure that out. Was there a potential danger i know theres a shelter in place order but were seeing a lot of spectators from the neighborhoods and restaurants and businesses. Is there a potential danger to them to get out of the contained area . So we have so right now were in a containment area. We have our command post area. This area is safe. If it does start to move, then well move accordingly. And again, we are listening in on a news conference, sergeant ray telly with the Alameda County Sheriffs Office talking about the investigation. Two fremont Police Officers at a traffic stop earlier today were shot. Were told that both are at trauma centers, one is in surgery now. This all started with what they thought was a routine traffic stop and escalated from there. This is by the roberts avenue and washington boulevard safeway. We in palo alto can purchase that clean Renewable Energy, are bringing more Renewable Energy on to the market. Electricity from these panels near lamore goes to the city of anaheim and a lot more power is coming. Oh, yes, this is just the first piece of a larger phased Master Plan Development of solar in kings county. You know, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Reporter the area Solar Project in kings county anticipate generating 2,000 megawatts of electricity, eventually enough for a million homes. The cost of solar has dropped dramatically and cityowned utilities are passing those save willings on to their customers. Our average Residential Rate is about 40 lower than the pg e rate. The municipal utilities agree to buy the same amount of power from the grid thus reducing the need for power generated by burning fossil fuel or from nuclear reaction. Two separate saebs the first where one officer was hit by the suspects car on fremont boulevard near irvington avenue. The suspect got away after the shots were fired and the rear window of a wickup truck was shot out. He ran across the Shopping Center, went to a shave way store where he brandished a gun but did not point it at anyone in particular. Now, were at a situation now where were getting confirmation that the second officer, both officers have been shot.
