Michael finney is here with some of the questions hes received since the earthquake on sunday. Lets get to the first question. A twitter user tweets a napa home owner, no quake insurance. 6,000 lost in furniture and electronics. Can we go through fema for assistance . Not yet, and maybe not never. Were going to find out here pretty soon, i think. Heres how it works with fema. Although theres a state emergency declaration, the governor made that, it doesnt mean anything to fema. Fema has to hear from the president , and its up to the president alone, so when does the president make the decision . Whenever the president wants to make a decision, so it could happen any time soon. We do know fema arrived yesterday. Some of their advisers are working with their state. They are looking at what they are going to advise the president to do but then its up to the president. Right. And then if he does it, if the president does do a national disaster, then what youre look at is there are grants up to 32,000 or low cost loans. Okay. Now another twitter user tweeted the peoples homes who caught fire, will fire and insurance cover . Yes, it will. Works in the state of california and maybe everywhere but here is how it works for sure. Anything thats shakes, thats the problem of earthquake insurance. If theres a fire after that shaking, then your normal homeowners covers it. So those homes you saw burning, hopefully they had homeowners insurance. If they did, they are covered. Another insurance question. Manuel writes on facebook, am i able to purchase earthquake insurance on a home thats rented with subsidized houseing . Yes. Im glad you asked that question. The earthquake insurance for homes is very, very expensive. Earthquake insurance for renters is not. As a matter of fact, its pretty cheap. It can be, you know, just 100 a year, so its worth checking into, it especially if you already have renters insurance. Pile that on for another 100 bucks. Definitely worth it. Really good information and all the questions coming after the fact. Hopefully it will prepare people before the next time. Thank you, michael. Up next, danger is their business. Well show you the surfers who are challenging the huge waves in Southern California and how some are actually trying to make a buck off it.
