With our dry conditions, that can set off a fire, and thats the biggest worry for san jose firefighters right now. Santa cruz firefighters are also on alert. We bring in additional staffing from extra fire units. We also have a bulldozer in that staff today. We correlate and feel like weve taken appropriate measures. Calfire alone has responded to 2700 fires throughout the state this year, about 900 more than average. That includes the pope valley fire in napa valley this week. It has scorched 400 acres and destroyed two homes. Its 55 contained, but 75 firefighters remain on scene. The punishment for violations such as using illegal fireworks, littering and public drinking will be tripled. The minimum fines will be 532 after court costs. Hundreds of thousands are expected along San Franciscos waterfront tonight for a spectacular show. Were live at pier 39 with a lot of excited people. There are a lot of people here, and a little bit over here, this band is starting to set up. Later on you can see there is more on pier 39. Lets show you video we shot a little earlier. There was a little bit of a crowd there, but pier 39 was the place to be to take in San Franciscos most famous sites including the Golden Gate Bridge, the bay bridge, alcatraz and to jump on the carousel. Em bargabarcadero is packed, soc transportation is probably the best way to get around on the grou ground, or you can enjoy a nice walk from one end of the embarcadero to the other. Taking the ferry is also an option. It gives you a little different perspective. We can expect that more and more people are going to start to make their way here to the embarcadero because those fireworks are going to go off around 9 30. There is a pretty good perspective to cast them at the end of pier 39. We have, however, begun watching the fog roll in, so well see how that affects tonights show. Sergio, thank you very much. You can see San Francisco fog from the golden gate to pacifica and were concerned how far that fog will reach. Let me give you a live view from the east bay hills. You can see the fog there on the coastline, fog over parts of San Francisco moving toward the bay. The question is will it reach the bay before the fireworks begin . Well, heres our fireworks forecast. Low clouds over the San Francisco waterfront, and some of the fireworks may be obscured if those clouds continue to hang as low as they are, 6 to 800 feet. Temperatures will be generally in the 50s and 60s. I can be more specific at getting i temperature readings at that hour. 60 to 65 most everywhere. The inland locations of fireworks tonight will be just fine but it will be a little iffy over the San Francisco bay and the north bay. Ill have the complete forecast later. Eric and ama . Thank you very much. There has been an arrest in the shooting of 11yearold gregory kent in antioch yesterday. A 14yearold boy has been charn charged with assault of a Deadly Weapon and discharge of a firearm. Gregory is in stable condition and doctors do expect him to recover after a friend shot him. It happened around 11 00 yesterday morning at an apartment complex at i and west 8th street. The oakland as are back with a new lease, but Oakland City Council is calling foul. A Helicopter Team in Washington State saved a hiker that was trapped 500 feet up the mountain. He called 911 worried that he wouldnt be able to hold on much longer. He was clinging to a cliff above mowaqua lake. The rescuers strapped in the hiker and the chopper carried him off. He was not hurt. Authorities have not said how he got there. Warming begins tomorrow, serious warming. Well have high temperatures near 100 degrees inland by monday, so we have a couple days of serious heat coming our way. Satellite image shows areas of fog off the coast. A steady sea breeze is carrying the fog near the coastline and will probably push some of it out over San Francisco and over the bay during the evening hours. Forecast animation will start at 7 45 this evening. Well see fog over the coast and the north bay, and thats pretty much the picture were going to have not pushing completely inland. It will be mainly clear in our inland areas overnight. Hot air is expanding westward. Well see that big mass of hot air that weve been showing you the last couple days over the southwestern part of the u. S. , expanding westward out over the bay area and most of california. But its going to bring us that heat wave i told you about for a couple days. I dont know whether that qualifies for a heat wave or not, more like a heatup. Temperatures will be mainly in the 50s which weve been having all week long, so lets take a look at our highs for tomorrow as we skip around the bay. Well start with the south bay where high temperatures will range basically from 83 to about 94, the hottest spot being in gilroy. Well see 60 on the coast at pacifica to 85 at loss about 60 in daly city. 60 on the coast to 97 far inland at clear lake. Over on the east bay tomorrow, look for highs ranging from 70 to 78, 78 in fremont. And the eastern inlet will range from a high of 88 to 90. On sunday, inland highs up near 90 degrees. Both days will see mid to upper 80s on the bay and up the coast. As for the sellers, in the past the streets of chinatown used to be crawling with them, but now the cops and the internet are taking a toll on them. We have amazing skies generally across the bay area, but there is an area of fog along part of the coastline and up to the golden gate, and patches of it are beginning to push out over the bay, and there is concern about how the fog may affect the fireworks display over San Francisco. Three miners have been pulled out alive from a gold mine in southern honduras. The mine collapsed wednesday, trapping 11 workers. This is an area called birds landing, and you can see the smoke dripping away from several homes down there. They have that under control right now, but weve lost at least four homes out here. Lets go to the video where i can show you earlier the fight that took place and whats left of it. We believe possibly seven homes burned out here which started around 1 30 this afternoon. The current fire line right now is about half a mile away, and that is piping some pretty black smoke that im looking at right now. Were told that that fire started from the embers that blew from this fire that burned these homes, and the wind is blowing pretty low out here right now. It has not died down so theyre still trying to get control of that second fire. Weve seen air drops coming in here from a helicopter. Calfire is assisting the mont z ezuma fire district, but its hard to get out here because there arent many roads that go into this rural area.
