Reporter the family here with their house built 52 years ago, the house gone, one of two structures in the canyon in pope valley. Doesnt look very good. I built this house with my dad, me and my brothers and my dad in 1962. A lot of memories here. And it looks like theyre all gone. Reporter while peter looks at the rubble, his wife, christine, took pictures of the site where her husbands father is buried just up the hill from the house. The house and the 250 acres around it has been in the Anderson Family for more than a half century. Theyre not sure now if they will rebuild. Any thoughts about what happens next . But butts canyon road, you can see the smoke here behind the hill a bit to the northwest of where we are. It took the fire officials a little while to figure out the homes had burned. The other that burned down the way from here are very isolated up on top of the hill. It is a long drive to get up here. This is the only house on the hill and obviously it is gone now. Just a terrible story but were glad to tell you doctors expect an 11yearold child to survive after he was shot in the upper body in antioch, shortly before noon. The 62vote comes after those on the board were structured to reject the lease. Now part of the deal includes the as pledging 10 million toward building a new score board. I think if you look at all the professional leases for football, baseball, basketball across this country there are no good deals. And so with cities, what they have to do is minimize the impact of those lease agreements, what they have on the public money. The as still hope to build a new ballpark, and that could be on coliseum property. The oakland and Alameda County supervisors must still vote on the lease. And workers are still putting the finishing touches on the fireworks in San Francisco. They are lifting and loading fireworks into launch tubes into two barges out on the bay, they will be off pier 39 and the municipal pier. The show starts at 9 30 p. M. Tomorrow night. Most of the time it will be clear in the south bay and inland east bay. There will be fog on the coast, there is a chance the fog could spread on the San Francisco bay. And the north bay, fireworks displays. At the moment im going to say viewing conditions will be good in the inland locations. Looks like they will be okay in the San Francisco bay and upward north, as well. Temperatures, cool 50s in some spots. Milder 60s and even 70s. I would say all in all it is going to be a terrific evening for viewing fireworks around the bay area. Dan and ama . Well, customs officers arrested a child pornography fugitive at San Francisco international airport. Nathan forstell, a former Bay Elementary School teacher was taken into custody last night after he arrived on a flight from vietnam. He left the country sometime after San Jose Police arrested him last year for possession of child pornography. He taught near monterey and was a substitute teacher. And people gathering around this fire pit ended up with Second Degree burns after it exploded on briarwood way just after 10 00. The girls were all members of the Softball Team and were roasting the marshmallows when it blew up. The homeowner was inside when the explosion happened. My first question was, it was the night before the fourth of july and somebody threw off a big firecracker. And within a couple of seconds the girls were running in the kitchen in panic and trying to shake the rocks and flame out of their hair. And there was bleeding. He says that he and his wife helped to put out some of the flames and brush off the burning lava rocks that sprayed the girls like shrapnel. Two were treated for burns and released. The fire pit was installed by the license contractors and had all the safety inspections done, the cause of the accident is under investigation. At the moment the bands of thunderstorms wrapping around the storm are lashing the coast. It is a category one hurricane, maximum sustained winds at 90 Miles Per Hour. Gusts to 115, moving quickly. As the bans of thunderstorms, violent storms pound the coast the winds are being felt so far only gusting up to about 45 Miles Per Hour in the locations most seriously affected. But there has been a tornado reported in rose hill, most of the time the outer bands of the storm will produce storms and tornadoes. By tomorrow morning early it should be a category 2, Even Stronger moving in the outer banks of North Carolina but then as it moves away from the coastline and into the warmer atlantic waters. Back to the bay, a sliver of low clouds, fog. Here is a live look at sfo, the fog will develop and move in locally tomorrow night. The fourth of july it heats up over the weekend. Now the forecast shows it will be hot air spreading west, a big warmup, heatup over the weekend. This helmet saved the sergeants life after he was injured by an ied blast while serving in iraq. His captain lost a leg. I did hear voices going in and out. One of my friends told me he thought i had taken my life. Tran remains there at walter reed for 15 months. My injuries are, the loss of my right eye. I have shrapnel, metal to the neck, some this side of the face. I have a left femur bone, with a titanium rod. Reporter this san jose native says he has no regrets about enlisting in the army at the age of 26. Before that he had a career in marketing. It was during a gathering with friends that he said he felt something was missing in his life. Somebody asked me what would you say about your life . I honestly didnt feel like i had accomplished anything. Reporter a short time later he found himself in iraq as an infantryman, helping in construction while also on patrol in the front line. It was a new world for him, one that ht will always carry with him. It gave me life. It gave me a purpose. It gave me meaning. Those guys are great. Reporter he still keeps in touch with many of them. After being injured and with some experience in construction, ht opened his own business here in San Francisco. You cant miss it. The dow closed above 17,000 for the first time ever. After the government reported a big gain in the hiring last month. The dow rose 92 points. And the jobs report showed unemployment at a sixyear low. Yeah, and the bay area economy is mirroring the same trend but it is not the tech sector actually that is leading the way. Reporter the san jose area is a good reason why the economy is getting better, while we think of the tech sector as a reason why, it is labor and the food sector that is leading the way. Theyre very high tech industries, the industry you see a lot of job growth will be where they use a lot of people. So that will be government, construction, Anything Service orient oriented. Indeed, government led the way, 1600 jobs, health care with 900, construction, 700, job losses continue in professional and Business Services and in manufacturing. Former san jose mayor, tom mchenry, who developed the san jose market, believes an expanding job market will help everyone. It does lift them but some get lifted higher than others. But it gives us more of an opportunity whether it is through governments or nonprofit or just gets people a job that lets us help people all the way down the economic spectrum. Reporter 1. 4 million californians are still unemployed, but that is the lowest since the recession in 2008. And there still be people that cant find work. Disturbing testimony today in the case of a georgia father accused of purposely leaving his son the die in a hot suv. Today, a judge denied bond for 33yearold justin harris. Police say harris was sexting five women and a 17yearold girl the day his son died. The detectives also testified that harris had searched how to survive in prison on the internet. Harris says he forgot cooper in the car and broke to work after the two had breakfast in a chickfila. On the Surveillance Video at chickfila how did the child appear . The child appeared wide awake and happy. Detectives said seven hours later cooper was dead. They also testified harris and his wife recently searched the internet for information on child heat stroke. Harris and his wife had taken out two Life Insurance policies on their son totaling 27,000. And officials at an Albuquerque Veterans Affairs hospital will review a staff policy after one of their patients died while waiting to be transferred within the hospital. He was waiting 30 minutes for an ambulance to drive him just 500 yards from one building to the er. The veteran collapsed in the hospitals cafeteria. Staffers performed cpr until the ambulance arrived. Hospital Officials Say their staff followed policy but promised a review of why somebody didnt just carry or wheel the vet to the er. And today, congressman Eric Swalwell of pleasanton took part in a hearing on the immigration situation. During that hearing, governor rick perry called it a humanitarian and National Security crisis and he wants the white house to step in. Abc News Reporter has more. Reporter as tensions rise over the nations immigration crisis, Texas Governor rick perry delivered this message directly to president obama. Secure this border, mr. President. Reporter during a u. S. House field hearing only miles from the mexico border, the government asked that undocumented immigrants flooding into the u. S. Be detained and sent back immediately. Allowing them to remain here will only encourage the next group of individuals. Reporter texas is out of room and resources to process the influx. So many undocumented families are being transported to other border states where theyre often released. Angry residents from new mexico. I dont want these people here. Reporter to california. We can send them to california, why cant we just transport them on the bus to tijuana and send them back across the border . We cannot return them to mexico if they are not from mexico. Reporter the Border Patrol says that 77 of the Immigrants Detained are not from mexico, including tens of thousands of unaccompanied children who are being held at crowded facilities like these. President obama says if congress doesnt act he will use his executive power to fix the problem. The family of a 3yearold child who they claim was asked to leave a kfc restaurant because of her scars disturbed customers will not accept a big donation from the chain. There was no proof that kfc asked the girl to leave but the family is standing by its story. And this brings new meaning to the word snail mail. This letter was sent back in 1931 to this persons grandmother but never made it. The nine handwritten pages detailed the life of a woman living in maine. The author tracked down the girls niece. Reporter well, this apartment complex is called rivertown place, this is an area where in the community the 11yearold boy, gregory kent, was staying with his aunt for the summer but lives in oakland for his parents. The 911 call was made at about 11 30 a. M. , police say he was shot in the chest. Everyone we spoke to said he was very calm. They just wanted to know if he was going to be all right. Gregory was airlifted to a sacramento hospital where we have learned he was listed in stable condition. The injuries were not lifethreatening. His aunt says he was shot with a. 22caliber gun, he was outside playing and ran in the house saying he was shot by a friend who then ran off. Now neighbors believe it may have been an accident. Kids can get ahold of guns. And you know one thing can lead to another where theyre showing off. Anything could happen. The gun misfires and someone was shot.
