This time, a 16yearold student went on a fiveminute stabbing spree, wounding 20 people in the process witnesses say the teen just had his blank expression on his face as he ran through hallways. We have video of the suspect coming in, in police custody. There, you can see him in handcuffs wearing a hospital gown in the back seat of a police car the 16yearold appeared before a magistrate this afternoon. 19 students and a Police Officer were stabbed in this attack. Just moments ago, the 16yearold was charged as an adult in a pennsylvania courtroom with four counts of attempted criminal homicide. 21 counts of aggravated assault, and he was denied bail. School officials said when he was taken into custody when tackled by a principal, he told them he wanted to die. Now, people here in this community are asking one question. Why did he do it . Classes had not yet started this morning at franklin regional high school. Chaos, and violence, erupted. We went in front of the school the teacher started running out. People running everywhere. Word spread people were being stabbed inside of the school. Police say the suspect is a 16yearold sophomore. Juvenile. Went down the hallway. Flashing two knives around. The suspect was taken into custody. His name has in the yet been released. 0 people were hurt, 19 students, and one adult the security guard. At least four people with serious injuries were flown to area hospitals for treatment. Doctors at victim wounds were deep and penetrating and had a pattern. Most were right lower abdomen. And right flank. Witnesses said people were crying and audio captured chaos i dont know, but i need someone here, asap. During the attack, a student pulled the fire alarm. That may have saved lives. There are a number of heros in this day. Many are students morriss ninth grade daughter called him from school. Just frantic. I never heard her like that. She never spoke to me like that. Ten people remain hospitalized. Assistant principal is being called a hero tonight. The high school is expected to stay closed for several days as officials make their way through the crime scene, which they say is very vast. The student who set off a fire alarm is nate simeo. She says nate took a knife to the arm to save them. Judging by the selfie in the hospital, he appears to be doing okay. Another student is being called a hero but the 18yearold doesnt consider himself one. He gives credit to the assistant principal. Mr. King immobilized him he pinned him down i jumped on top of him and held down his wrist and arms. I was put in the situation i dent know what is going on until i was in the middle of it. High School Senior says he went to find an ambulance when he came back, the suspect was contained so he joined other students gathering in a field. Back in the bay area, two firefighters are in the hospital one with serious injuries after a pair of firefighting vehicles collided this morning. Abc7 News Reporter is at the scene and tweeted this picture of the firefighters the accident happened just before 9 30. Well have a report live report coming up at 5 00 nurses in San FranciscoGeneral Hospital saying the Emergency Department is under staffed this, after two recent incidents including one in which a patient, lynn smalleding was found dead in a stairwell weeks after she vanished. A woman was attacked by a another patient. Nurses blame the incidents on staffing cuts. Weve seen Staffing Levels cut. Were overseen by hospital accrediting organizations. The hospital says the meeting staffing standards set by the groups. Nurses claim there are 155 fulltime positions for registered nurses.
